Love is not permitted in the Winter Court. Unseelie allows neither softness nor warmth.
So she settled to watching the mortal woman from the backs of mirrors and the undersides of shadows, and pined for her from across the gulf between their worlds.
The mortal, for her part, wondered why she was always cold no matter the weather, and why the wind sounded so mournful on moonless nights. She learned to lived with a brown thumb, and grew an uncanny knack to navigate in the dark.
Until one day, she reached into the mirror and pulled the wicked faerie out.
