Leah woke to knocking on her closet door. She opened it to find an elf.
"I beg your pardon, but could I use the road?" he asked.
"Through my bedroom?"
"Indeed," he replied. "You know how Faerie connects distant places in the human realm?" She nodded, even though she didn't.
"Well, it works both ways. Passing through here will save weeks of travel through dangerous country."
"Then by all means," she said.
"Thank you," he said, marched past her to the bedroom door, and disappeared. She would've thought it a dream, if he hadn't left muddy bootprints in the carpet.
