~ Ariana's point of view ~
I just finished making dinner. It's Saturday night and the kids are up to something. I've been a mother for a while now and I can smell when they're up to no good . . the two of them are in Jaylah's room . . together . . alone . . that's never a good thing. . . they're talking about something Michael and I can't be a part of . . . I know it . . I feel it.
I know that girl inside and out . . . I used to be her . . . I know her way of thinking. Her facial expressions, her smiles, her grins . . and the same with Jaden . . those two are hard to handle but they're so easy to figure out.
"What do you mean they're up to no good?" Michael asks.
"I don't know . . something's up and I can feel it"
"What are you talking about?"
"I don't know . . . but didn't you hear Jaylah call Jaden into her room?"
"Yea . . so?"
"Well . . they're up to something . . I can feel it . . . ."
"Because Jaylah called Jaden into her room, they have to be up to something? . . maybe it's about the birthday party . . they have a lot of stuff to discuss and plan, I'm sure they're not being shady . . don't go crazy over the littlest things, Ariana . ."
"Me? going crazy over the littlest things? need I to remind you that it was YOU who stole Jaylah's door when Chris was here the other day? . . was that me . . or was that . . hmm . . YOU??"
"Ok . . I admit . . that was a little crazy but I had every right to do that"
"No you didn't, Michael . . you freaked out over nothing"
"When Jaylah comes to you with a positive pregnancy test, what will you do, Ariana? huh? . . tell me, what will you do? . . I'm pretty sure you will freak out"
"She's not gonna get pregnant! . . she's not even having sex!!"
"How do you know that?? . . she's on the pill, isn't she??"
"Michael . . you should know that birth control pills are used for other things too!! . . not just for birth control! . . for pimples, monthly pains . . they're good for a lot of things, just because she's on the pill doesn't mean she is sexually active . . . and I know for a fact that if she were, she'd tell me"
"Yeaa, right . . and the youngest grandmother award will go to you. ."
"Michael, what the heck?"
"She's a 15 year old girl . . she will NOT come to you for sex talk!"
"She will come to me for anything! she knows she can come to me no matter what the issue is! we have a trusting mother-daughter relationship! I trust my girl when it comes to sex . . and so should you, Michael!"
"Does she really need to have a boyfriend? aren't parents allowed to forbid that kind of stuff?"
"No!! she's almost 16 . . relax"
"I know she's sexually active, Ariana . . I know she is! I mean look at her . . she's a beautiful, young girl . . and Chris is a horny young guy . . I used to be his age, I know what 16 year old boys think and talk about, ok? . . I know that stuff . ."
"Michael . . I trust Jaylah when it comes to Chris . . she told me that she will wait until she's sure that she wants to have sex with him . . I told her to listen to her heart . ."
"You told her to listen to her heart?! her heart screams boys and sex, how can you tell her that?!!!"
Michael runs upstairs to Jaylah's room . . I'm following him. He opens the door . . Jaden and Jaylah are sitting on the bed. . as soon as Michael opened the door, I caught Jaden quickly hiding something under the covers . . . . . now I'm sure, they're DEFINITELY up to no good. I knew it. . . but Michael is up here for a whole other reason -.- he's paranoid. . .
~ Jaylah's point of view ~
Damn, that was close!!!! Jaden hid the DVD unter the blankets right when dad opened the door . . what are they doing here? . . they both have that stupid look on their faces . . I hope everything's ok though . . Dad tells Jaden to leave the room because he wants to talk to me alone. What does dad want to talk to me about? . . I hope it's not about the $20 bucks I accidentally took when he was in the shower this morning.
"Jaylah . . . you can talk to me about anything . . you know that, right?"
"Umm . . . yea . . why? . . ."
"Well . . when there's something you feel like you have to get off your chest . . . you know, something you feel like you just have to tell me . . then you can always do that . . . right?"
"Right . . . but I don't get it . . what are you talking about, dad?"
He gets up and slowly walks over to the window.
"Jaylah . . . I wanna talk about Chris . . . "
"What about him? . . . ."
"You like him, don't cha?"
"Yea . . .? . . why?"
"He's a nice boy . . . he really is . . . is he?"
"Yes he is . . I love him . . ."
"Love . . . such a short word but so much meaning, right? . . . . the word Love reminds me of something . . something I'm sure you have thought about too . . something a lot of people are rushing into . . like sex . . . . "
"Dad . . . . enough with the sex talk, I'm not talking to you about it!!!"
"Jaylah . . I just wanna know one thing . . ."
"NO! I'm not talking to you about it! and that's final!!"
Dad takes a seat on my desk chair and folds his arms.
"I'm your father and I wanna ask you a question and you will give me an honest answer!"
"MOOOOOOM!!!!!"
"No . . this is between you and me, Jaylah . . I just wanna know from you, face to face . . are you and Chris sexually active?"
"Maybe we are, maybe we're not . . . none of your business"
"You're grounded!"
"WHAT?!! . . WHY?!! . . . MOOOOOM!!!!!!"
The door opens . . mom walks in. . thank god! Dad has lost his mind!!
"MOM! DAD GROUNDED ME FOR NOTHING!!!"
I rush out of the room and head downstairs . . of course they're both following me to the kitchen. I grab a bottle of ice tea and walk outside to the patio . . mom and dad are inside fighting and yelling at each other . . I hate seeing them argue but I just had to get mom into this . . dad can't ground me for this . . there is no reason to ground me, I did nothing wrong!!
I take my phone and dial Jenna's number but she doesn't pick up. . UGHHHH!! I need someone to talk to! someone I can tell what an annoying ass dad is!! -.- . . . I run upstairs to Jaden's room . . he's on the bed, doing something on his laptop. . I sit down on the bed in front of him . . .
"Dad is driving me crazy, Jaden . . . ."
"What did you do now?. . . ."
"Nothing!!! he wanted to talk to me alone to ask me if Chris and I are sexually active!! can you believe that?? it's none of his damn business!!!"
Jaden looks at me with that weird look on his face.
"But . . like . . are you and Chris sexually active? . ."
"Why do you ask me that?"
"I'm just asking . . . ."
"No . . not the real deal yet . . but we did other stuff . . and I think on our birthday I wanna do it at his house . . his parents are away . . we got the whole house to ourselves . . .wohooooo"
"I don't think you should go, Jaylah . . . I think it's best that we all stay here and end the party here. Mom and dad would be too upset if you left at night . . . they planned this party for quite a while, you know . ."
"Hey!! you promised to cover me on this, Jaden!!"
"Yea . . but I think I kinda changed my mind"
"Change it back!!!!!"
~ Michael's point of view ~
Ariana and I are at the dinner table eating without the kids . . Jaden is eating in his room and Jaylah is, I quote: "too angry to eat something" . . . I totally overreacted and now the girl hates me . . I don't know why I'm being so crazy . . . . I wish I could let her do and trust her like Ariana does but I can't . . I wanna protect that girl . . she's still so young, I don't want her to do something that she will regret later on . . . 15 years old . . no, almost 16 . . but I still see that little baby in her face when I look at her . .
"Michael? . . are you ok?" Ariana asks putting her hand on mine.
"Yea . . I'm fine . . "
"Wanna watch our movie? I'm sure that will get you in a better mood"
I smile.
"You really wanna watch it? . . ."
"I sure do . . do you?"
"Yea sure . . . open a bottle of wine, I'll get the movie"
*doorbell rings*
"Who's that?"
I walk to the door and open it . . oh . . it's Chris. . Jaylah comes running downstairs to greet him. She invites him in and helps him take off his jacket.
"Mom . . Chris and I are gonna watch a movie . . in my room . . with the door CLOSED"
"Ok sweetie . . have fun!"
I watch them walk upstairs hand in hand . . I return back to the table with anger written all over me. Ariana ignores it and stars cleaning up the table.
"Are you ok with that?" I ask her.
She nods.
"Yea . . they're just watching a movie, honey. . ."
"You know what watching a movie leads to . . ."
"Michael . . just because we have sex every time we watch a movie doesn't mean she's doing the same thing . . Chris is a nice guy"
"He seems like it but I wanna make sure . . I'm going up there and I'll have a grown up talk with him . . ."
"Jaylah will go crazy . . don't do that Michael . . please just leave it alone"
"I just wanna talk to the boy . . ."
"You'll scare him away, Michael . . and Jaylah will hate you passionately"
"I just wanna have a talk with him . . what's the big deal??"
"Alright . . . she's your daughter . . and he's her boyfriend . . go ahead"
"I will . . . ."
I walk upstairs and knock on the door. "Jaylah?"
"What?"
"Can I come in really quick?"
"No . . ."
I open the door anyway . . they're both sitting on the bed, watching TV. Jaylah tells me to leave but I'm not leaving so quickly . . I really wanna talk to Chris and get an idea of what Jaylah means to him . . I don't want my girl to end up broken-hearted . . . I know how guys Chris' age are . . I know it too well . . I used to be 16 and the only thing I had on my mind was girls and sex and how to combine them. .
"Chris . . can I talk to you for a minute, please?"
"DAD!! . . we're watching a movie!!!"
"I just wanna talk to Chris for a few seconds"
"But you can't!!!!! just f*cking leave us alone!!!!!!!"
"Jaylah I wanna talk to him . . . and watch your mouth, please!"
"Get the f*ck out, dad!!!!! you're so f*cking annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"I said watch your mouth!!!! one more bad word and Chris is going home!"
"WHY ARE YOU SO F*CKING ANNOYING DAD?!! . . WHY CAN'T I SPEND 2 HOURS ALONE WITH MY BOYFRIEND IN MY OWN ROOM WITHOUT YOU BARGING IN?? . . I HATE YOU! I SERIOUSLY HATE YOU RIGHT NOW!!! LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE!!!!!"
