Chapter 79: I Believe That We All Fall Down Sometimes
DANIELLE'S POV
"Come on boys! Let's go!" My dad called. They got up from the couch and ran to the front door, grabbing their bags. I got up and put my cereal bowl in the sink.
"Danielle! There's a note for you on the entryway table!" My dad said.
"A note for me?" I asked, walking into the entryway.
"I found it taped to the door. Gotta go." He said, kissing the top of my head and walking out of the house with the twins. I picked up the note and chewed on my lip. I unfolded and started reading it.
Danielle,
I'm so sorry for everything. I never meant to hurt you, I was just stupid and in love. I really like you still but I can see that I ruined it. Well, you'll never have to see me again. My family is moving to Northern California, getting me away from trouble. I'll never forget you Danielle Marie Biersack.
Harper.
"Oh my god."
"What is it?" My mom asked.
"Harper moved." I said, showing her the letter.
"Well, that should be good, right?"
"Yeah. I just hate to think it was my fault that his family had to uproot their lives."
"Danielle, none of this was your fault. He asked you out, he cheated, he stalked you. You were just the victim in this."
"Okay." I sighed.
"You don't still have feelings for him, do you?"
"No! Of course not!" And that was the truth. Of course, I still felt something towards him when we broke up, but after he became a stalker, those feelings jumped out of the window.
"Good, now your bus is going to be here soon." She said, placing the note on the table and going to the kitchen. I grabbed the note and stuffed it into my bag.
***
"Hey Danielle." Ember said.
"Look at this." I said, giving her the note.
"Woah, Harper is gone?"
"Yeah."
"Wow." She said, handing me the note back. "Well, that's good."
"Yeah."
ALEX'S POV
The boys ran off the bus and into my arms, hugging me tightly.
"Hey boys, how was your day at school."
"Awesome! I passed my multiplication test!" Eli exclaimed as they jumped down, both boys grabbing my hands as we walked back to the house.
"Cool! What was it on?"
"Six's! I earned my chocolate syrup!" He said, reffering to the thing they're doing in their class. Every multiplication test you pass, you get another ingredient for your banana split.
"Oooh, that's a tricky one. What about you Eddie?"
"No." He sighed.
"Don't worry, you'll get it. Just tell me when you have to retake the test and I'll help you study, okay?"
"Okay!" He said as we got to the house and the boys walked in with me behind them.
"Mom, can we go over to Grandpa Andy's?" Eli asked.
"Homework first. There's apples on the table for you. I'll call grandpa." They nodded and ran off to the table. I grabbed the phone and dialed Andy's number, leaning over the kitchen counter, watching the boys as they got their homework out of their backpacks.
"Hello?"
"Hey Andy."
"Oh, hey Alex."
"The boys wanted to know if they could come over."
"Of course! I love them!"
"Great, I told them after they finish their homework, so I'll bring them over in an hour?"
"Sounds good, see ya Alex."
"Bye Andy." I said and hung up.
"Mom! I need help!" Eddie said and I walked over to the table.
***
An hour later, I drove the boys over to Andy's house, getting out of the car and walking them up to the door. I knocked and Andy opened the door a few seconds later.
"GRANDPA!" They exclaimed, hugging his legs.
"Hey boys."
"Wanna play Batman with us?" Eli asked.
"Of course, go to the backyard and I'll be right there." Andy said and the boys ran further into the house.
"Thanks for doing this Andy."
"Anytime."
"I'll have Brandon pick them up on his way home from work."
"Sounds like a plan, see ya Alex."
"Bye." I said, hugging him before going to the car. I got home and sat on the couch, calling Brandon.
"Hello?"
"Hey Brandon."
"Hey Alex, is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I just need you to pick up the boys on your way home. I dropped them off at your parents'."
"Will do."
"Thank you, love you."
"Love you too." He said and hung up.
ANDY'S POV
"Boys, I'm going to take a break. I guess I'm not as young as I used to be. But you guys keep playing." I laughed, trying to catch my breath after running around the backyard with them for thirty minutes.
"Okay." They said, resuming their game. I walked over to the patio and sat down, tossing my head back.
"Here, you look like you need it." Harley said, handing me a glass of water.
"Thanks." I said, taking it from her as she sat in the other chair. I took a sip and then picked up the cigarette box on the table and lit one.
"Sixty years old and still smoking." Harley laughed.
"Actually, I'm a few years older than sixty, and I'll smoke til' I die."
"Yeah, smoking may be the cause of your death."
"Hey, at least I'll die happy." I said, watching the boys run around.
"Whatever you say."
"Grandpa, are you ready now?" Eli asked as they both walked up to me.
"In a minute." I said, blowing the smoke up in the air. "Just keep playing."
"Okay, come on Eli." Eddie said, running back out. Eli ran after his brother, coughing a bit.
"Did Eli look a little weird to you?" Harley asked.
"No, he looked fine."
"GRANDPA!" Eddie yelled and I looked to see Eli on the ground, Eddie standing over him.
"Shit." I said, putting the cigarette out and running out to where they were, Harley behind me.
"What's wrong with him?" Eddie asked, looking down at me as I kneeled down next to the small boy. Eli was coughing and gasping for air. He started clutching his throat and my eyes widened.
"Has Alex or Brandon said anything about him having asthma?" I asked Harley and she shook her head. "Fuck." I whispered, picking up Eli and rushing him to the car.
I layed Eli in the back, Harley and Eddie getting in the back as well. I got in the drivers seat and pulled out of the driveway, driving to the hospital. I grabbed my phone and called Alex, going as fast as I could.
"Hello?" Alex answered.
"Hey Alex. Um, does Eli have asthma?"
"No, why?"
"FUCK! THIS IS ALL MY FUCKING FAULT!" I screamed, banging on the steering wheel.
"Andy! What's wrong?"
"I was smoking on the patio while the boys were playing and out of nowhere, Eli started coughing and gasping for air, kind if like Brandon."
"Fuck." Alex sighed.
"Just meet us at the hospital, alright?"
"Okay, see ya Andy."
"Bye." I said and hung up.
We made it to the hospital and I carried Eli up to the front desk.
"We need help, now!" I said as Eli started choking on air. They took the small boy from my arms and rushed him down the hall. I sat down in the chair and put my head in my hands.
"Andy, this wasn't your fault."
"I was smoking around them Harley."
"Brandon and Alex were told Brandon has asthma because of being pre-mature. That it couldn't be passed down. If anything, you helped them and now they know that Eli has asthma."
"I guess." I sighed.
"Grandpa! There's a toy room right dow the hall! Do you want to come play with me?" Eddie asked.
"Eddie, grandpa's not in the best mood right now, but I'll come play with you."
"Okay." He said, leading Harley to the room he was talking about.
"Elliot Biersack?" I stood up and walked over to the doctor.
"I'm his grandfather."
"Okay, did you know he had asthma?"
"No."
"Well, he does, and we were able to get him stabilized. He should be released tomorrow."
"C-Can I go see him?"
"Of course." He said, giving me Eli's room number. I walked down the few hallways until I got to Eli's room, walking in. He was hooked up to an IV and had a oxygen mask over his nose and mouth.
"Hey Eli." I said, sitting down next to him.
"Hi." He said, turning his head to look at me.
"I'm so sorry."
"It's okay. I feel better now."
"Good, the doctor said you should be able to go home tomorrow."
"Good, I don't like being here."
"Well, let's hope you don't have to come here too much. But you know what, once you get out of here, we can have a Batman marathon."
"Yay!" He said and I smiled.
ALEX'S POV
"GIRLS! GET IN THE CAR! ELI IS IN THE HOSPITAL!"
"What happened?" Danielle asked, running down the stairs.
"Your brother might have had an asthma attack."
"Like dad?" Camryn asked.
"Exactly, now let's go." They went out to the car and I followed them, the three of us getting in. I pulled out of the driveway and called Brandon.
"Hello?"
"Brandon, yo-"
"Alex, I'm working right now."
"Brandon. This is serious. You need to get to the hospital. It's Eli."
"What!"
"Just get there and I'll tell you when I see you."
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can." He said and hung up. We made it to the hospital and I looked around the waiting room not seeing Andy or Harley, not even Eddie. I walked up to the front desk, the receptionist looking up at me.
"I'm here for Elliot Biersack. I'm his mother." She gave me his room number and I thanked her, Camryn, Danielle and I grabbing a visitor's pass before hurrying down to his room. I opened the door to see Andy and Eli talking.
"Eli!" I exclaimed and he turned his head, smiling at me.
"Mom!" I ran over to him and hugged him, kissing his cheek.
"How are you feeling?"
"Okay. I just want to go home though."
"I know honey." I said, kissing his forehead.
"The doctor said he can gon home tomorrow."
"Well that's great news! Right? I'll stay with you all night."
"Good."
"Alex, can I speak to you outside?" Andy asked and I nodded as we both left the room.
"So, the doctor confirmed that he does have asthma."
"But, the doctor said that it couldn't be passed down when we were pregnant with Camryn!"
"There's lots of other ways asthma can develop. The doctor said he should be fine and he's prescribing an inhaler. It's going to be just like Brandon's asthma, alright?"
"Okay."
"Did you tell Brandon?"
"Yeah, he was busy so he said he'll be here as soon as he can."
"Okay, good."
"Where's Eddie?" I asked.
"Harley's playing with him in the hospital's family room."
"Alright, I think I'll drop by and say hi."
BRANDON'S POV
I ran into the hospital, not seeing anyone in the waiting room I recognized. I ran up to the desk, the lady behind it looking up at me.
"What room is Elliot Biersack in? I'm his dad." She gave me his room number and I grabbed a visitor's pass, running down to the room. I ran in to see my dad and Alex, along with Camryn and Danielle spread out across the room.
"Daddy!" Eli exclaimed. I ran over to him and hugged him tightly.
"I'm so happy to see you, how are you feeling?"
"Good."
"What happened?" I asked, looking from my dad to Alex.
"Come on." My dad said, standing up and walking out to the hall. I followed him and closed the door behind me.
"Eli has asthma."
"What?"
"I was smoking on the patio while they ran around. They waalked over to me and then Eli started getting a reacton, kind of like you."
"Oh my god, poor kid."
"The doctor prescribed him an inhaler and he should be out by tomorrow and be able to return to school the day after. I'm so sorry Brandon."
"It's not your fault dad, we didn't know, and now we do. Why don't you go home and get some rest."
"Yeah, I think that's best."
"Where's Eddie?"
"Your mom is playing with him in the family room."
"I'll go get him." I said, walking down the hall and my dad followed me. We found the family room and I walked in to see my mom and Eddie playing with Legos.
"Look! They have Batman Legos!" Eddie exclaimed, showing me the little Batman figurine.
"That's awesome." I exclaimed picking my son up and hugging him tight.
"How was your day at school?"
"Good I guess. I failed my multiplication test."
"Don't worry, you'll get it sometime. What was it over?"
"Sixes."
"Wow, those are tricky. As I said, you'll get it."
"Dad, can we get Batman Legos?"
"Why couldn't you be this enthusiastic about Batman?" My dad laughed.
"If I was, you would be broke."
"As long as we were broke because of Batman."
"Goof." I chuckled, rolling my eyes. "How about, once you guys get your banana split, I'll buy you guys some Batman Legos."
"Deal." He smiled and I kissed his forehead.
"Anyway, we should get going." My dad said as my mom stood up.
"Bye grandpa." Eddie said as I handed him to my dad so Eddie could hug him.
"Bye Eddie, I'll see you later, okay?"
"Okay, bye grandma."
"Bye Eddie, it was fun playing with you today." She said, kissing his cheek. They handed Eddie back to me and he wrapped his arms around his neck.
"I'll walk you guys out." I said as we left the room.
"Daddy, can we go home?" Eddie asked.
"How about we go see your brother first." I said as I followed my parents out of the hospital.
"Okay." He said as we made it to my parent's car.
"I'll talk to you guys later, drive safe." I said as they got into the car.
"We will, bye Brandon, love you." My mom said.
"Bye." I said as they started up the car and drove off. I carried Eddie back into the hospital and down to Eli's room. We walked in and a smile spread across Eli's face once he saw his brother.
"Eddie!" Eli exclaimed.
"Eli!" Eddie exclaimed back. I put Eddie on the bed next to Eli and they hugged.
"Are you okay?" Eddie asked.
"Yeah."
"Eli, we need to tell you something." Alex said.
"What?"
"You know how sometimes I can't breathe and I have to come to the hospital?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I have asthma, and so do you, which is why you couldn't breathe today."
"Oh, is it always like that?"
"Yeah. But, just stay away from dust and smoke and you should be fine. If you see grandpa or anyone smoking, get away fast, okay?"
"Okay."
"Anyway, we should get you three home."
"I wanna stay here!" Eddie whined.
"You have school tomorrow!" Alex said.
"Do I have to miss school?" Eli asked.
"Unfourtanatley, but you'll be back the next day."
"Alright." He sighed. They all said goodbye to Eli and then walked out of the room.'
"Dinner is already made, just heat it up."
"Thanks, I'll see you tomorrow. If I'm already at work, call when you get home."
"Alright." She said as I left.
