In dedication to the release of my new book, I'm writing about Bae.

Growing up, you had always absolutely adored the fact that soulmates existed. It seemed too good to be real that people could find their other halves; the people who were made just for them. When you were growing up, it was like a fairy tale to you, you were the princess and your prince would find you by the writing on your skin.
You had dreams about them and awoke the next day to tell your parents with too much excitement for them to handle in the early hours of the morning. They smiled in glee and shared your joy as they held hands and glanced at each other knowingly; remembering the times when they were still in their youth.
That was a long time ago though and you realised the hard way, how naive you were. Your parents had their ups and downs; just like any other person in a relationship. But their words held a certain edge like they were pouring small amounts of salt to the wound; every argument at a time. They fought so much and disagreed on many things, you felt scared and insecure due to growing up surrounded by it.
Your older brother had slept around, not worrying about any of that 'crap' as he called it. You felt unsure because it didn't feel right to fall for someone, knowing they weren't built and created for you and vice versa- it felt icky.
When your parents found out about your brother, boy were they mad. They didn't understand his reasoning at first but it was only because he had realised the burden behind soulmates at such a young and influential age.
Your dad had affairs, he didn't say anything but you knew- he knew you knew too and then your mum found out. Everything went to hell and you gave up on fairy tale stories, falling into a spiral of sadness that lead to your dropping grades. The sickening thing to you, was that your mum and dad were still together, to this day- your mum didn't give up on him and she knew he was as good as trash.
Family wasn't a big thing for you, you started acting out at school and then that only lead to a lovely talk with the school counsellor. You couldn't keep your mouth shut and said all the wrong things; all aboard the train up the mountain, kiddos!
The first day in Classroom 3-E was only fun because you skipped. You went to school though, receiving ugly stares from students who earned the short end of the stick in terms of your blunt rudeness, delivering ugly stares back at the people who had miraculously found their lovers to spend the rest of their lives with.
'do you believe in an eternal love?'
The pen wasn't blunt so it lightly stung when the ink smoothly stained your flawless thigh. You didn't know why you bothered; you hadn't bothered before but watching the student's in the classroom you were supposed to be in- you were so bored.
You could see two empty seats, both of them located in the back and it was obvious one of them was yours. Eternal love was the basics of soulmates; it had always meant a love that lasted forever and everything that came along with it- you pitied your parents for having a few screws loose.
'sounds stupid.'
You felt your arm twitching and looked down to the flesh on your inner forearm to catch sight of bold letters that weren't previously there. Your eyes widened in shock and many indescribable feelings swirled inside of you. You felt breathless for a second before answering in a haste,
'i know right! sounds totally unachievable.'
Under the bold writing, you answered your soulmate; something you never imagined yourself doing. This continued for a long while, throughout that day and just before the last bell rang, you successfully left the school grounds without being caught.
You made your way home, writing on your arm to feel a nerve twitch under the skin where the next sentence would appear out of nowhere. Your soulmates answers were short and the type where you didn't know what to say next when you didn't want the conversation to end; hence spending of lot of time asking questions and talking about yourself.
The writing font changed slightly due to the change of pens and marker, you had to leave to a bathroom whenever you were you walking to create new space to keep the conversation going, you felt odd and you already knew you would be cringing at yourself if you saw what you were doing from another persons eyes but you were too entranced to stop the messages on your arms, legs and waist sometimes.
After a week when you still skipped school, Kunugigaoka had called your mother to ask about your whereabouts- you shrugged in response which earned you a wonderful three-hour long lecture before being sent to your room. Feeling betrayed by the school and tired about your mothers yelling, you finally entered the door to your new class which actually should've been 'new' a week ago.
The student's stared and you stared back, watching their eyes move from your own and then down to your exposed arm after you had been asking your soulmate to wish you luck. You hastily covered your arm by tugging on your jumper sleeve and then you saw the target that you would have to be killing.
"Ah You must be (L/N), (F/N)-san- I am Koro-Sensei; your homeroom teacher.. Uh, may I ask where you have been this past week..? If that's alright..?"
The quiet class stood in their places and stared, awaiting your answer- growing confused when you merely pointed to the tree outside, about fifteen metres away from the windows of the class, "That tree."
"Uhh..." The confused student's let out odd sounds before slowly dispersing to their seats as you headed towards the back before your octopus-looking teacher could say anything, "Uhm, okay- well I'll begin roll call."
'good luck with the octopus'
You looked down on your arm and sighed before the door to the class opened with a bang. The student with bright red hair and orange eyes waltzed in with his bag above and behind his shoulder. His blazer fitted him smoothly and the aura surrounded him felt almost intimidating, "Oops I'm late~" He bellowed towards the teacher before firing a pistol with pink bullets as you remembered they were the guns you watched your classmates shoot at the teacher everyday, he was too fast though.
You looked back to the words written on your arm, a sigh exiting your mouth when you thought about how to reply without exposing the alien that was your teacher that was supposed to stay confidential.
Your breath hitched when realisation set in. Your eyes widened beyond belief when you re-read the words stained on your skin. There was no way.
You heard footsteps approaching you and your sleeve was tugged down in an instant when you heard a voice, "Hmm, so you're (F/N)-san huh? About time you came to class~ Talk about tardy~." He smirked down at you, his orange eyes piercing into your own when he was interrupted, "Speak for yourself Akabane!"
The brown haired male, a large build and beady eyes spoke out which caused some students to muffle their giggles, the Akabane boy glared and opened his mouth to retort before he was interrupted by the teacher who had finally begun class.
'hello'
You didn't know what else to say, you knew your soulmate was in the same room as you, you knew he would look down at his wrist. You couldn't believe it but it had to be the only conclusion when he spoke about an octopus, it was your teacher. The boy in the back glanced down, almost in a timid-like way to read the word on his wrist, answering in a familiar fashion.
'whats up?'
You held your breath and felt your heartbeat thumping in your ears, rushing to scribble some more words and look around starting from the boy in the front of the class, you moved your pen from your wrist and leaned down to draw a star on your ankle.
'⭐️'
He didn't even twitch, the boy next to him didn't either so you moved on to the other side of the class,
'i hate school'
You knew this phrase was spoken everyday, and the same thing would be said as an answer but you wanted to catch your soulmate,
'me too'
There it was! Your heart was thumping so fast, you began to get super restless but you had nowhere to move, it was extremely uncomfortable. The boy next to you glanced at you but you ignored him awkwardly and continued watching the boy's in the next row and the next.
You exposed your left arm this time, which was thankfully clean but not before you looked down when feeling the twitch in your arm which occurred for no reason,
'look to your right, dummie.'
A shaky breath escaped your mouth when your eyes immediately moved to the right, your head slowly following through. Your palms were sweating and you gasped loudly when you saw an arm, it was clean with one sentence on it,
'look to your right, dummie.'
"Oh my go-"
He smiled, his pearly whites almost blinding you when he chuckled at your adorable reaction, his red hair fell perfectly around his face and you then realised that the class had halted when you accidentally gasped out loud,
"The names Akabane Karma, but call me Karma... Soulmate."
