I felt Elijah's arm wrap around me and rest on the large bump that was now my stomach, "You know, I had this really weird dream that I was pregnant," I murmured as we lay together.
"Strange, I had a dream that we were going to be parents," Elijah whispered back, in my ear.
I felt a weight settle on me and a lump rise in my throat, "But Amy's dead," I whispered, unable to say it any louder.
"She was ready to die, she had everything in place. She knew she wouldn't make it out of that alive," Elijah rubbed my stomach comfortingly.
"Klaus," I sighed, "Why did he do it? I thought he hated Marcel?"
"He does, but he still loves him like a son... He's exiled him from the French Quarter though," Elijah explained. "Marcel and Rebekah were the ones who summoned Mikael to New Orleans, causing us to almost die at his hand."
"I remember you telling me that story," I nodded, "He set the theatre on fire, didn't he?"
"Yes. Now, let's move on to a more pleasant subject. Like what we are going to do now we have a little baby on the way," Elijah kissed my cheek before bending down and kissing the baby bump.
"I was scared you wouldn't accept Squirt," I said as he climbed out of the bed and began to get ready.
"Why would you think that?" He frowned.
"Because of the circumstances, because it's technically not ours," I shrugged, patting the bump gently.
"The baby is ours though, Amy said in her letter that she wants us to treat the baby like it is ours, and that's what I intend to do," Elijah smiled at me, "I'm getting you checked out by a doctor."
"I'm going to need a hand up first," I laughed.
"No, you need to stay and rest, I will be back soon," Elijah kissed my forehead before leaving.
I grabbed my phone off of the side and dialled Hayley's number. "Hayley," I said when she answered.
"Becs, what's up?" She asked.
"Something happened last night after the party... Something I can't explain over the phone. Could you come over to the compound today? I really need to talk to you," I hated the way my voice sounded so pleading.
"Of course, I'll make my way over now," She said, understanding that something very serious had happened.
"Thanks Hayley," I smiled and hung up. Hayley and I might not have always seen eye to eye, but if anyone could help me get my head wrapped around miracle babies, it was her.
Hayley made it to the compound before Elijah got back, I heard her shout my name as she walked in. "I'm upstairs," I called down to her.
A few minutes later she was standing in the bedroom doorway, her eyes wide as she stared at my stomach. "What the hell?"
"It's easier if you let me show you," I said, biting back a nervous laugh as she walked over to me, not taking her eyes off of the baby bump.
She sat on the bed beside me and I lifted my hands to her temples, letting her into my mind and showing her to memories of last night. When I was done I let go of her face and waited for her to speak. "So you're pregnant... With your friend Amy's baby... Who used magic to transfer the baby into your womb after she died?"
"Yes," I nodded simply. What else was there to say?
"Wow, and I thought my baby was the miracle baby," She murmured. "How did Elijah take the news?"
"Surprisingly well, he's gone to get a doctor to check me and Squirt over," I explained, "He's going to make a really good dad."
"You're going to make a great mum as well though," Hayley smiled, "You've always wanted your own little family and now you have it, I know it's not under the best circumstances but you've got what you've always wanted."
"I should have stopped her though, I knew she was going to do something stupid and I didn't stop her because I was too busy wrapped up in my own dramas," I bit my lip to stop the tears that threatened to spill.
"Hey, you couldn't have expected this would ever happen," Hayley took my hand in hers reassuringly. "Us pregnant girls have got to stick together now."
I smiled at her, "Thank you Hayley... How are the wolves after last night?"
"Alright, they're going to keep their distance for a bit, until people get used to it a bit more I think," Hayley nodded. "I should probably get back though."
"Of course, I'll speak to you soon, thanks for coming," I smiled and she bent down to hug me.
"Bye Squirt," She whispered to the bump before waving at me and leaving.
It wasn't long after that when Elijah came in with a woman. "This is Cassie, she's a doctor but knows about the situation," Elijah explained.
"And what a situation it is," She smiled at me, "Let's get straight down to business, shall we?"
"Sure," I nodded and let her pull up Elijah's shirt that I was still wearing. She pulled out a small machine from her medical travel bag and I recognised it as one of those sonogram machines that let you see the baby. It was a lot smaller than a normal one though. She put that cold gel on the end of the machine and pressed it against my stomach. I nervously looked at Elijah, who saw my nerves and came and took my hand in his. We both watched Cassie's face, waiting for some news. And that's when I heard it on the machine, a strong heart beat.
She smiled brightly at us and turned the machine around so we could see the screen. I gasped as I saw Amy's - our - little baby on the screen, "Squirt," I smiled happily, tears welling in my eyes. I looked up at Elijah to see a tear actually fall from his eye. He coughed and wiped it away, but couldn't help the beaming smile on his face.
I shouldn't be happy, I felt horribly guilty for being happy. One of my best friends had died and I had her baby, it was such an abnormal situation. But I couldn't stop being happy.
"Is everything okay?" I asked her, and Elijah's grip tightened on my hand.
"Despite the abnormal circumstances, your baby is absolutely fine. There is nothing wrong with your baby," She smiled, "Would you like to know the sex?"
"Yes," I nodded on behalf of Elijah and I, because apparently words had failed my fiancée.
"It's a boy," She smiled and Elijah and I laughed.
"A boy," He smiled happily. I never even knew Elijah wanted a child so badly, I think he'd lost hope of that a long time ago.
"You hear that Squirt, your Daddy's going to get you wearing suits straight out of the womb," I said to the bump.
Elijah laughed and pulled me into a hug, "We're going to have our own little family, Becs."
"I know," I grinned.
Cassie printed us a photo of the sonogram before she took her leave. "Elijah," I said, as we sat on the bed together. "We're going to have to delay the wedding."
"What do you mean?" He frowned.
"I mean our wedding is in three weeks and I am due in a month, I'm not getting married with a bump," I shook my head. "We're going to have to wait until Squirt's out of me."
"You have such a pleasant use of words, it's called giving birth," He chuckled.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes at him.
"But of course we can put the wedding on hold for a few more weeks," He smiled, "Do you want me to run you a bath?"
"Please," I nodded and he walked into the bathroom attached to our bedroom.
"Becs," Klaus said as he walked into the room. He froze as he saw me, his eyes bulging from their sockets. "What the bloody hell is going on?"
"Klaus, what are you doing here? Haven't you done enough damage?" I glared at him, my anger only increasing as I thought about Amy's horrible death.
"You're... Pregnant?" Klaus shook his head, "What is going on? How is this possible?"
"Get out, Klaus," I snapped, not wanting to see him. I felt a little light headed as I stood up too quickly and had to catch myself on the dressing table. "Get out!"
Elijah was by my side in a second, leading me back towards the bed to sit down. "Perhaps we should speak outside brother," Elijah gave Klaus a pointed look and pushed him out of the room.
I could hear Elijah explaining what happened to Klaus and Klaus saying that it was a trick and that the witches were playing us. I pushed myself back on to my feet and walked to the door.
"We should get rid of it, before it's too late," Klaus said angrily.
"Harm my baby and it will be the last thing you do," I growled, yanking the door open. The two brothers looked at me startled.
"Niklaus will not harm our child," Elijah said, moving so he was stood in front of me. "Will you, brother?"
Klaus hesitated before replying, "No."
"See," Elijah smiled reassuringly at me.
"Unless it gives me reason to, but that thing is not a Mikaleson," Klaus spat before storming off.
"I'm going to kill him," I rolled my eyes as Elijah helped me into the bathroom.
"I will not let him harm our child in any way, believe me," Elijah vowed.
"I know you wouldn't," I smiled and kissed him gently.
