Wait....what the fuck? WHO?!?! Tell me I heard that wrong! Tell me I'm just hearing things! Maine straightened and slowly looked to where the newcomer was. RJ stood frozen on the spot while the newcomer threw her arms around him to give him a hug. Her back was turned towards Maine so she can't really see what the newcomer looked like. Credits to RJ though because he didn't return the hug. If anything, he looked uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. Yay! Oh but wait, is he moving to hug her back?
To say RJ was shocked was an understatement. What the fuck?!? Of all places, she had to show up here? What is she doing here anyway? She lives in Toronto, doesn't she? Oh shit! She's hugging me! RJ just stood there unsure of what to do. He threw a glance in Maine's direction in the hopes that she didn't hear any of the exchange. But one look at her blank expression and RJ knew she heard everything. Panic! This is the time to panic! Should I run or should I hide? And why is Lianna still hugging me? RJ moved then. He lifted his arm and placed 3 (yes 3, I counted) awkward pats on Lianna's back to acknowledge her hug. He looked at Maine once more and this time, she had her arms crossed in front of her and her left eyebrow raised. Shit!
Maine was deliberately keeping her mouth shut even if she was raging on the inside. She patiently waited for RJ to acknowledge her. He sent two glances her way but still no acknowledgement. His face is now beet red and he seriously looked like a cornered animal. And why the hell is that woman still hugging him? By this time, Maine was slowly counting from 1 to 10 to keep her rage at bay. She stared at the back of the woman's head, silently willing her to turn around. Turn around! Let him go and turn around! Maine noticed RJ giving the woman 3 pats on the back as if petting a rabid dog. Like it's going to bite anytime soon! If it wasn't for the situation, Maine would've laughed at the absurdity of it all. However, if she heard it right, this is Lianna. The Lianna that RJ first proposed to. The Lianna that RJ refused to talk about. The Lianna that is currently making the 'insecure Maine' claw her way out once again. The trouble is, 'insecure Maine' is very unpredictable. She could remain as cool as a cucumber OR she could be as turbulent as the sea during a storm. And if this Lianna doesn't let go of RJ anytime soon, it would be the latter 'insecure Maine' that's gonna come out!
For Maine, it felt like Lianna has been hugging RJ for 10 minutes but in truth, only 1 minute had passed. She felt like she was watching a movie on slow motion. Are you just gonna stand here and do nothing Maine? That is your fiancé, the father of your children, being hugged by his former fiancée, inside your brother's cubicle! How rude! Ok, ok. This needs to end now! Finally, Maine couldn't hold back anymore. She took a few steps to get closer.
"Ahem!" she began. Lianna let go of RJ and stepped back. RJ looked at Maine but instead of reassurance, Maine read confusion in his eyes. Why is he confused? And just like that, 'insecure Maine' came out full blown. Maine's initial intention was just to introduce herself to the infamous Lianna but when she saw the confusion in RJ's eyes, she blurted out what came to mind.
"Can you take your mini reunion somewhere else? I'm having a visit with my brother here!" she stated haughtily. That made Lianna turn around and oh my god! She's gorgeous. Her face could be akin to a supermodel. Big round eyes, perfectly arched eyebrows, prominent cheekbones, cute button nose and full red lips. Her hair the colour of midnight was tied in a high ponytail which truly accentuated her facial features. If Maine was insecure a minute ago, she truly feels like the ugly duckling now. To cover up her embarrassment, she turned her back and walked back to her brother's bedside.
RJ was taken aback by the anger and disappointment in Maine's voice when she spoke up. Oh shit! Here we go again! Gaaahhh! Of all things, 'insecure Maine' has to come out. Yes, both RJ and Maine have acknowledged that 'insecure Maine' is a separate entity. God knows, they've encountered her many times in their relationship. RJ badly wanted to reach out to Maine but when she's in one of these moods, all she needed is time. If he tried cajoling her now, then there would be a scene created to which he really would like to avoid. So as much as he hated it, he pulled Lianna outside but before they left he spoke out loud to make sure Maine heard it.
"Love, I'll be back in 10 minutes. 10. Start counting" he commanded.
Maine was left alone with her own thoughts. Stupid! Stupid Maine! Could you be anymore obvious? Why can't you keep your jealousy in check? Oh god, I am jealous like the green eyed monster! And I was so rude! As her actions earlier dawned on her, Maine felt her knees go weak and her face heat up with embarrassment. She gave in to her inner demon and most likely embarrassed RJ in the process. That's probably why he left instead. Because I behaved like a child. If Sebastian did the same, he will be reprimanded. Ugh! She resorted to talking to the unconscious Nicolas instead.
"Oh my goodness Kuya. Did you hear me? Did you hear how rude I was. If dad were here, he would've hit me on the head. Huh, if you were awake, you probably would've thrown something at me" she whined. Of course, her tirade was met with silence except for the sound of the mechanical ventilator. To keep herself busy, while waiting for RJ, (cause she really had no choice but wait cause Coleen already left) she went around her brother's bed and straightened his sheets. It felt like forever until RJ came back but true to his word, it was only 10 minutes. She couldn't look him in the eye because come on, she acted like a child in front of his former fiancé.
"Are you ready to go?" he asked softly. Maine could only nod. RJ went to Nicolas's other side and spoke "Kuya Nico, you need to get better man. You don't belong in that bed. So, see you tomorrow bro."
Maine couldn't hold back the tears that came after that. Here is a man, who values her family as much as she does, and yet she doubts him up to the point of embarrassing him in front of other people. Ugh! Did I ever screw up.
RJ straightened and waited for Maine to say goodbye to her brother. As soon as she was done, she walked out without looking back to see if RJ is following. RJ just shook his head at Maine's behaviour. He noticed the tears in her eyes and credited them to her sadness in seeing her brother like that. Little did he know that Maine was actually crying because of him. He doubled his pace to keep up with her and placed his hand at the small of her back. Her steps faltered and gradually stopped when she felt his touch. She turned to look at him and he reached out to wipe the tears on her face before they continued walking side by side.
As they passed the nursing station, Maine spotted Lianna standing by the desk. Does she do this on purpose? Just stand there and look amazing? Oh shit, she's coming closer. Maine almost ran to the exit if it weren't for RJ's hand wrapping around her waist and pulling her towards him. As Lianna approached them, Maine took 3 deep breaths to calm her nerves. It was RJ that spoke first.
"Maine, love, I'd like you to meet Lianna, a friend. Lianna, this is my Maine, my soon to be wife and mother of my children." Well, who wouldn't smile at that kind of introduction. He called me 'my Maine' again. And in front of his former fiancée nonetheless. Take that! Meeh!
"It's very nice to meet you, Maine" Lianna stated whilst extending her hand. What the fuck? Even her voice is gorgeous! So dulcet.
"It's very nice to meet you too. I'm sorry about earlier. I sounded a bit rude. I don't know what came over me" Maine answered while shaking Lianna's hand.
"Oh think nothing of it. I apologize too. I was just a little surprised to see Richard, I forgot where I was" Lianna amended with a smile. Damn it! Why does she have to be so fucking charming! Settle down Maine.
"Well, we have to get going. Visiting hours is almost over and we still have a long drive home" RJ interrupted.
"Of course. Don't worry, we'll take good care of your brother" Lianna reassured.
"Thank you" both RJ and Maine murmured as they walked out.
Unbeknownst to them, Lianna followed them with her gaze until the doors closed after them. She couldn't believe that after all this time, she would see Richard again. But, he genuinely looked happy and content. Good for him! And his future wife? My god! She looks like a doll. Her perfect facial features and even with her obviously early pregnancy belly, she has the body to die for. To say Lianna was jealous, was an understatement. Richard, for her, was the one that got away.

Maine and RJ headed to the parking lot without exchanging words. RJ knows that 'insecure Maine' is still lurking so he decided to not poke the beast for now. Maine, on the other hand, was unsure of how to start the conversation after her childish behaviour earlier so she kept her mouth shut for fear of saying the wrong thing again. She was actually trying to think of a way to make it up to RJ without having to admit her fault. Yes. You read that right! She is still a woman after all. As much as she knew that his silence was her fault, she would never admit to it unless it's necessary. Call it pride, or arrogance, or conceit! Oh what the hell! Yes it's my fault! I just need a little bit more courage before I admit it.
When they got to RJ's SUV, he opened the passenger door and helped her (almost carried, actually) get in before he hopped into the drivers side and drove away. The silence inside the vehicle was so uncomfortable and deafening that Maine couldn't take it anymore.
"RJ, I'm sorry about my behaviour earlier" she began but RJ grabbed her hand and kissed it. She was surprised by that gesture that she started crying. She couldn't help it. Pregnancy hormones took over and when she started she couldn't stop. She was crying so hard that she didn't notice the vehicle had stopped in an underground garage. RJ jumped out and went to her side, opened her door, took off her seatbelt and scooped her up into his arms. He headed towards the elevator and pressed a button. As the elevator started rising, Maine's curiosity got the better of her.
"RJ? Love, where are we going?" she asked. As an answer, RJ leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips. When Maine opened her mouth to ask something again, he swooped in and dipped his tongue inside her mouth. He grazed her teeth and gently sucked on her tongue. Maine couldn't help the moan that escaped her lips. She tightened her hold on his neck and answered his kiss just as passionately. Their tongues fought for supremacy. After a few seconds, Maine pulled back to catch some air and that's when the elevator stopped and the doors opened. RJ stepped out and turned left. He stopped walking when they were in front of unit number 716.
"Love, I don't want to put you down so you're going to have to unlock the door. The keys are in the right front pocket of my jeans. The golden one" RJ instructed.
Maine reached down and was about to put her hands in RJ's pocket when an idea came to her. She let her hand drift to the front where his all too obvious arousal created a huge bulge. She looked him in the eye, bit her lip and caressed the bulge. A guttural groan escaped RJ's lips and he reciprocated by kissing the part of Maine's neck closest to him.
"Love, open the fucking door now or I swear to god, I will fuck you right here in the hallway" he groaned.
Maine giggled. In the midst of her arousal, she giggled. She pulled out the set of keys and fumbled in her hurry to open the door. As soon as the door opened, she pulled the key out of the lock and RJ quickly kicked the door shut. Maine tried to look around but she couldn't keep her eyes open because of what RJ is doing to her neck. Next thing she knew, she was unceremoniously dumped onto a bed. She opened her eyes and met RJ's unflinching ones. The words that he uttered next should've brought fear but instead it heightened her already peaked arousal.
"You need to be punished for your behaviour earlier, love. NOW KNEEL!" he stated with so much authority in his voice.
