swiss huffed softly as he cleaned up the aftermath of the ritual to welcome in the spring.
it hadn't gone well. the winds were angry, the trees rustled more than usual, and the light from the setting sun had been blocked by clouds—leaving 6 more weeks of winter.
and of course, nihil and imperator were pissed, so they put the job of cleaning on one ghoul.
"fuckin' witch." swiss hissed as the anger imperator gave him raised higher in his chest. "running around thinking you own the place. you just have that horny bastard wrapped around your finger, nothing else. what gives you the right to treat us like thi-?"
swiss' angry rambling was cut off by a break in the clouds then a big crash in the woods.
the multi-ghoul stood still for a moment, trying to process what happened. though, his thoughts were cut off by the sound of pained cries and the rustling of wings.
swiss dropped everything in his arms and raced into the woods to find what had just fallen from the heavens.
swiss slowed to a stop as he saw someone curled up against a tree, her body shaking badly.
"hello?" swiss called. she froze, hesitantly looking over her blackened wing at him.
"are you okay? i saw you fall and-" swiss cut himself off as he was hit with the smell of jaded beauty.
a fallen..
swiss slowly continued forward, crouching down slightly as curiosity overwhelmed him.
"you-... you're a fallen.." swiss whispered. tears welled in the scared angel's eyes, the gold flaking into a metallic black as the tears fell from her lash line.
as swiss got closer, her shaking became more dramatic as anxiety flooded her nervous system.
she pressed herself against the tree, extending her wings out to try and protect herself.
"it's okay, i won't hurt you." swiss soothed, crouching down more to seem less intimidating. "my name is swiss and i'm a ghoul, but i won't hurt you in any way, i swear." swiss promised, sitting down at the extent of the angel's wings, his legs crossed.
after a few minutes of soft speaking from the multi-ghoul, the angel started to relax her wings, resting them around her body, revealing the rest of her features.
swiss pushed away every lavacious thought the brewed due to her beauty, smiling softly at the fallen.
"there we go. everything's okay, right?" swiss tilted his head. the fallen nodded slowly, squinting slightly to try and get a better look at swiss in the darkness.
"it's getting a bit cold, isn't it?" swiss asked. the angel nodded, realizing that she had been shaking. "how about i take you back to my home and get you warm. there will be other ghouls there but you won't have to talk to anyone. i'll keep you hidden." swiss offered, hoping he could keep up his promise of keeping you hidden from the other ghouls.
the angel hesitated for a moment, seeing the small amount of doubt in his golden eyes, but agreed anyway.
swiss smiled, standing up and holding out his hand for the fallen. she placed her hand in his, letting him haul her to her feet and keep her balanced.
you watched as swiss peaked around corners before squeezing your hand and guiding you along.
"okay, this is the hard part." swiss said as you both arrived at a big wooden door, swiss pulling an old key from his pocket. swiss unlocked the door and let you walk in first, though you paused as you saw stairs leading into a dark abyss.
"it's okay. i'll be here to help you down. but we have to be dead silent when we leave the stairs, alright?" swiss whispered, closing the door. you looked over at his glowing yellow eyes and nodded, letting him take your hand once more and guide you down the stairs.
swiss looked at you as the light of the common room lit up your face. you looked back at the multi-ghoul, your hands starting to shake slightly. swiss squeezed your hand gently, nodding at you to reassure you. you looked back out to the common room, peaking around the corner.
swiss looked out as well, searching for any ghouls.
the common room was empty.
... that wasn't normal. at all.
swiss raised an eyebrow but stepped out anyway, pulling you along.
the multi-ghoul was on high alert, slowly guiding you through the catacombs as he tried to cover your scent with his.
"okay-" swiss started as we turned into a hallway, but was cut off by another voice.
"swiss?" they called.
swiss flinched slightly, slowly turning around and making sure you were behind him.
"rain.. hi.." swiss smiled nervously as the ghoul shuffled over. "who's that?" rain asked, trying to look over the multi-ghoul's shoulder. though, swiss just copied his head movements, making it hard for the new ghoul to see you. rain raised an eyebrow, looking at swiss with a confused stare.
you stared at rain from over swiss' shoulder, trying not to make it look like you were cowering.
"uh- this is, um.. she's a fallen." swiss mumbled. rain's eyes widened. "what the hell are you doing with a fallen, swiss??" rain asked in disbelief.
"she fell from the sky! she was hurt, and she's still scared. i wasn't just going to leave her out there." swiss whispered, obviously stressed as he reached his hand back and placed it on your waist to make sure you were still there.
"swiss, you know what happens to fallens. are you sure this is a good idea?" rain asked. "if we help her, it won't! you know i've been reading about them for years. i know what i'm doing." swiss hissed back, pulling you so you were next to him.
"please help, rain." swiss sighed. rain glanced at you, seeing the fear in your eyes.
"okay.." the water ghoul sighed, nodding.
you sighed softly as you waited for either swiss or rain to come get you and sneak you up to the kitchens to stock up for the next day.
bouncing your leg, you looked out the window, longing to fly again.
rain had made a makeshift sling for both of your wings, keeping them in a relaxed position for them to heal. though, that meant you had no way to defend yourself with bound wings.
you felt your wings bristle at the thought of being completely vulnerable, a soft knock at the door startling you out of your thoughts.
you looked over, seeing swiss peaking in with a smile.
"ready?" the multi-ghoul asked.
"okay, you stay here. we're going to go find some food from storage and bring it up for you to choose, okay?" rain said, stopping his footsteps as you, swiss, and himself stepped in the kitchen.
you nodded, that being the only way you had ever spoken with the ghouls. swiss smiled, pressing a kiss to your temple before walking off with rain.
you looked around the kitchen, seeing a schedule posted on a cabinet. tilting your head, you walked over, trying to figure out more about where you were being kept safe.
though, you felt the feathers on your wings start to tense as you gained the feeling of being watched. you brushed it off—it was too late for any of the other ghouls to be awake, right?
moments later, you heard a low growl before you were pounced on.
you screamed for swiss and rain as you were dragged out of the kitchen, unable to see who had taken you.
being dragged down the stairs to the catacombs was painful as all hell, and the ghoul who had taken you didn't seem to care about your wellbeing all that much.
a painful 3 minutes later, you were thrown into a room, the door slamming after.
you sobbed, covering your mouth as you looked up at the angry red-eyed ghoul prowling towards you, a purple-eyed ghoul not far behind.
"who are you? what the hell are you doing here?" the red-eyed ghoul growled. you sniffled, feeling blood run down your shin.
"answer me, you heaven worshiping freak!" the ghoul yelled, pouncing on you, hurting your wings as you landed on your back. you cried harder, trying to tell him that you didn't answer to god or jesus anymore, but the only thing that came out were choked sobs.
the ghoul above you growled as the purple-eyed ghoul came in closer, observing you in the darkness.
"HEY!" swiss yelled, barging in the room and quickly shoving the new ghouls away from you. rain swept you up onto your feet, holding onto your waist as you trembled both from adrenaline and anxiety.
"my wings..." you whispered weakly, looking at rain with scared eyes. rain frowned, hugging you close as swiss yelled at the two ghouls.
"she's a fallen, swiss! she's in our home!" the red-eyed ghoul yelled. "i know that, i fucking brought her here." swiss growled, slowly walking away from the two ghouls over to you and rain as the water ghoul turned on the lights.
the red-eyed ghoul looked slightly shocked as the purple-eyed ghoul gained the look of an angry dad.
"you.. you brought a fallen to the ministry." he stated. swiss nodded, glaring at the taller of the two new ghouls.
"do you understand what risk your putting us all in?! fallens are dangerous, swiss!" the purple-eyed ghoul yelled. you looked up at rain, confused.
"what..?" you asked. rain shook his head, petting your hair to keep you calm.
"she's not! she hasn't tried to hurt us in any way. she just needs a home and people who care about her." swiss tried to persuade the ghoul. "what's her name?" the red-eyed ghoul cut in.
swiss paused, slowly turning to look at you.
"you don't even know her name?! swiss, you don't know what your doing! we're taking her back to the woods." the purple-eyed ghoul stated, walking up and grabbing your arm. you yelped, reaching for rain as the ghoul started to pull you out of the room.
"hey- aether, no! stop! c'mon, you can't take her." swiss begged, rushing over and grabbing onto your waist. aether turned around, glaring at the multi-ghoul.
"rain has gotten her to communicate more than i have! rain knows she's not dangerous. please," swiss said, pulling you into his arms. aether growled, looking over at the water ghoul.
"seriously, rain?" the red-eyed ghoul asked, looking a bit betrayed. "her wings were broken. i wasn't going to let swiss take care of it." rain grumbled back, crossing his arms.
"we're a pack. we don't go behind each other's back like this. it's fucking insane that you both decided to bring her here and act like she won't go crazy and kill us all!" aether yelled.
swiss just held you close to him, resting your head on his chest as he hugged you tightly.
aether stared at the two of you in utter disbelief, his anger washing away.
"you think she's a fucking pet." aether scoffed, a passive smile covering his face. "what? no-!" swiss exclaimed.
"yes! yes you do! you think that because you found her out in the woods and your nursing her back to health that she's your fucking pet!" aether laughed, running his hand through his hair.
swiss yelled back at aether as you slipped out of his arms, the quintessence ghoul shuffling away from the door, swiss following.
you glanced at the open door, debating on if you should run or not.
if swiss and rain are just going to get in trouble because of me being here then i should leave... you thought.
you looked back to the room, seeing rain and the red-eyed ghoul looking at you. rain looked sad, a knowing look in his eyes as the red-eyed ghoul was giving you a daring look—taunting you, almost.
you swallowed, giving rain an apologetic stare before slipping out of the room and running off to the room swiss had been keeping you in.
you quickly started gathering the things you had when you crashed, becoming frustrated as you couldn't find one of your shoes.
"c'mon..." you whispered, hurriedly moving things around as you tried to find it.
you turned around to look in a different part of the room, the action making a shock of pain shoot from the base of your wings to the tips.
you whimpered softly, knowing that since you were tackled by the red-eyes ghoul, your wings were probably more injured.
a knock on the door cut off your panicked searching.
you froze as the door slowly opened, a ghoul peaking his head inside.
he smiled softly when he saw you, slipping into the room and closing the door behind himself.
"hello." he said. you stared at him cautiously, dropping all your things incase you had to run.
he noticed your tension, slightly extending his arms as he shook his head.
"i won't hurt you. my name is mountain." he said. you swallowed, trying to relax yourself.
"you.. you aren't mad that i'm here..?" you asked, your voice hoarse. he shook his head.
"i've been able to sense you the last few days. if i had thought you were dangerous i would've done something." mountain smiled. "you should teach that to your friends." you grumbled, straightening you back, your wings aching as they bristled.
mountain chuckled and nodded, seeing all the scratches on your body, a line of blood dripping from a scrape on your shin.
mountain grabbed the first aid kit, motioning you to sit on the ground.
you did so, trusting this ghoul already.
mountain was quick to disinfect and wipe up all your injuries, going as far as to redoing the slings your wings were in.
as mountain was finishing up the second sling, the door slammed open, scaring you.
"hey, are you- mountain???" swiss froze, watching mountain gently brush his claws over your feathers to make sure they were sitting comfortably under the new bandages. you and mountain looked over, mountain grinning as you smiled softly.
rain nudged swiss, guiding him to walk in further and close the door.
"what happened to your wings?" rain asked, quickly sitting down in front of you. "um... the smaller one jumped on me.." you mumbled. "holy shit, you're talking." swiss whispered, rushing over and sitting next to rain. you nodded.
"what's your name, dove?" rain asked as mountain moved to sit next to swiss in front of you. "y/n.." you mumbled, fiddling with your fingers.
"what part of heaven are you from?" mountain asked. swiss and rain looked at the ghoul. "what? it's a good way to get an understanding of her background so we can make her more comfortable here." mountain explained.
"the city of stones," you said. mountain's eyebrows raised. "what? what does that mean?" swiss asked. "i've never heard of that. is it like- i dunno.." mountain shrugged.
"it's where all the angels that were set to be cast out lived. i've been there my whole life." you explained. "wow.." swiss mumbled.
"did you at least make any friends?" mountain asked. you nodded.
"i knew an angel named rithin. he was cast out about five years ago. i tried to keep track of him and keep him safe on earth but one day he just disappeared." you explained. "he used to call me 'his y/n'."
"rithin?" rain asked. you nodded. "how long ago did he disappear?" rain continued. "about 4 and a half years ago." you replied.
rain did some quick math in his head, his eyes widening.
"rain... you know i'm too stupid for this.. what did you just realize?" swiss asked. rain looked at the multi and earth ghouls.
"i think aether is rithin..."
