swiss laughed happily as he and mountain walked through the woods, looking for a good place for a picnic the ghoulettes wanted to have.

mountain didn't talk much, but he was good company anyway. swiss had learned how to watch the earth ghoul's small expressions to be able to tell if he was enjoying a conversation or not. mountain would never stop one of his packmates from talking about something, especially if they cared about it. he would just nod along, making sure to keep up with what they were saying if his input was asked for, but not listening for anything more than key details.

swiss was talking about how he had messed with some siblings of sin earlier in the day, smiling whenever he glanced up at the earth ghoul and saw how interested he was. maybe it was because swiss had fucked with a sibling mountain didn't like very much, but swiss was happy nonetheless.

swiss continued to ramble happily. though, as time went on, he noticed mountain starting to zone out as he became increasingly on high alert.

"you okay?" swiss asked when it was clear mountain wasn't paying the slightest bit attention. mountain looked over, saddened by how worried swiss looked.

"there's someone else here." mountain said. swiss looked around, not seeing or sensing any of the ghouls. "i don't feel anyone." swiss blurted, looking back at mountain. mountain just shook his head, closing his eyes and focusing on the world around him. swiss kept quiet, knowing he was asking the earth to speak to him and tell him where to go.

after a moment, mountain opened his eyes and leaned slightly to grab swiss' hand before walking off into a different direction. swiss followed, squeezing mountain's hand.

he was nervous, but he knew they were safe. mountain would never lead him somewhere dangerous, especially if the taller ghoul had just spoken with the earth. she would've told mountain if it were dangerous, she would've advised to go home. and mountain would have listened, because the earth was always right.

"can you tell what it is?" swiss uttered. "no. she says that they need help." mountain watched the woods ahead of them, making sure nothing would jump out. swiss kept quiet, moving closer to mountain and leaning into him.

swiss knew mountain had to have been trying to fight off the earth's call for a long time if she had asked them to find someone who needed help. the earth never interfered with humanity and let things play out, she kept quiet and made humans suffer the consequences of their actions. but for her to insist on two ghouls helping someone? that seemed a bit out of character for her, swiss thought.

after a few minutes, mountain pushed into a small clearing. swiss was quick to look around, jumping in front of mountain when he saw someone curled up against a tree across the grass.

"it's okay." mountain whispered, placing his hand on swiss' shoulder. swiss looked back, seeing mountain staring at the person leaning against the tree. as swiss looked back at the person, mountain started to walk over. swiss followed quickly, grabbing onto mountain's hand again.

as the two ghouls reached the human, they stopped, unsure of their next move.

"what do we do?" swiss tilted his head, looking down at the unconscious human. "i mean, it's obvious they aren't a sibling." swiss continued. mountain let out a breath, closing his eyes again. swiss leaned into mountain, keeping him grounded as he spoke with the earth.
