Chilltober 22: scarecrow

Mallory was humming to herself as she walked from the car to the house when she stopped.

There was a terrifying looking figure on the front porch.

"Daddy!" She screeched. Evan came running and Mallory pointed to the figure.

"Looks like Mommy got some Halloween decorations." Evan said. Mallory took a tentative step towards the porch and Evan held her hand.

"Come on! Let's go see Mommy and see what her friends name is!" Evan said, walking with Mallory into the house.

"Hey Zo!" Evan called. Zoe poked her head out of the doorway.

"What do you think?" She asked, beaming.

"It scared Mallory." Evan said. Zoe smiled.

"That means it works!" Zoe cheered.

"Mama what is it?" Mallory asked, tugging on Zoe's sleeve.

"It's my scarecrow friend. His name is Edward." Zoe explained.

Mallory frowned.

"It's scary though." She whined.

"That's the point of Halloween silly! You gotta have a few scary things.." Zoe said smiling.

"Don't worry sweetheart, I'm sure Edward will grow on you."
