My Dear Pseudostem (Male POV)

Note: Pseudostems are false stems generally produced by a series of leaf sheaths as they wrap around themselves. Examples: suckers such as Banana and Plantain suckers.

I look at you,

I see you,

I watch you,

All to know you,

Yet I do not know you at all.

Who are you when I'm not watching?

Who are you when no one's around?

When you're behind closed doors,

When you peel back your layers,

When you finally look at your core;

Your true self?

Oh my dear pseudostem,

So tall you've grown,

Your burdens yet to be shown,

You've buried them alive,

And for now you thrive,

But slowly my love they ascend,

How long will you hold it in?

How long will you remain;

So wrapped up in your own world,

So wrapped up in the past layers of yourself?

I know you feel it love;

The anxiety that is swelling up inside,

You let it out slowly in the dead of the night,

When the winds grow cold,

When no one's in sight.

Will you ever let me be the one to comfort you?

Will you ever give me the pleasure of making you smile?

Oh how your silence answers my questions,

And for now I must settle for seeing you smile at yourself.

For now, I will sit under your shade;

Accept this season of obscurity.

I will wait for the day break,

To see your inflorescence,

To observe the beauty of your truths; unfold,

I will silently observe,

While others shower you with compliments.

But their words only bring you discomfort,

Only alert you of your growing vulnerability.

Their buzzing about you,

Only pollinates your flowers,

And to your dismay,

Your burdens grow,

Your support is threatened,

You're thrown off balance,

For your burdens you have let out,

But have failed to let go of.

Now I cease to hide behind your shadows,

Now I stand up.

Stop pretending you haven't seen me,

Don't push me away,

Why do you find such shame in asking for help?

Must I sit and watch you break?

I cannot.

I cannot bear to see you tear down all you have built.

How far must you carry this falsehood of independence?

How much stronger must the storms be,

Before you're taken out of your misery?

I will hold you my love,

I will support you for as long as you'll let me,

If, you'll let me.

I will not move,

I will not let you go,

Until you let it go,

Until you find comfort in sharing the fruits of your labour,

Until I once again see you smile,

Make, you smile.

Because my dear pseudostem,

I am a sucker for love.
