I felt as though I was performing in front of an entire audience while Alastor and I were at Valentino's party. Thankfully, we didn't stay long. Alastor wanted to make sure we were seen, then we left.
I breathed a sigh of relief as we got into the town car. The kimono I wore kept me from slumping in my seat, though I felt my shoulders sag with exhaustion.
"Not many sinners would have said what you did to him," Alastor mused, toying with his antique microphone.
I gave him a curious look, "Why is that?"
Alastor raised an eyebrow as if to convey he couldn't believe I had asked that, "Because he is one of Hell's most notorious overlords."
I felt a pit in my stomach open up. Had I just done something that would hurt my teahouse? I employed quite a few people, who were dependent on me for income. There were also the geisha who entertained there. We were like a house of cards. If I fell, so would they.
Seeing my expresion, Alastor reached out and patted my hand, "Don't worry, my dear. With me on your side, Valentino won't dare retaliate. Besides, I admire your tenacity. Not many people have the gall to face an overlord. It's quite refreshing."
I nodded, turning my attention to the scenery passing by outside. Though Alastor's words did comfort me some, I couldn't shake the feeling I had just done something very foolish.
