Chapter 18

Steph's POV

"What is happening here?" malakas na boses ni Laurence ang umalingawngaw sa aking opisina. Pagpasok nya ay syang papalabas na sana ang mga helpers, dala ang box na puno ng pulang likido.

Napatingin doon si Laurence.

"I'm sorry Steph. Tinawagan ko na din si sir Titus." narinig kong wika ni Shey.

Kinuha nito ang box at binasa ang kasama doong note at agad na nagdilim ang kanyang mukha.

"Who sent this Shey?" Matigas na tanong ni Laurence.

"H-hindi ko po alam sir. May delivery boy lang ang po ang pumunta kanina. Hindi din daw po binigay ang pangalan nung nagpadala."

"Next time, don't receive anything if you don't know the sender. Understood?" Sinenyasan naman ni Laurence ang mga tauhan nya na lumabas na.

"Yes sir." Nakayukong sagot ni Shey. I feel bad for her. Hindi naman niya alam na ganun ang laman ng package.

Lumapit sa amin si Laurence.

"Are you okay?" He looked at me worriedly and asked in a soft tone.

Tumango ako. "Nagulat lang ako but I'm okay."

He sighed harshly and put his left hand on his waist while the other one was on his forehead.

"I'll investigate who sent that d*mn package."

Tumingin ito kay Shey.

"You can now go back to work, Shey. Don't let this happen again" nagbabantang wika nito.

"Yes sir" sagot ni Shey and mouthed goodbye to me. Lumabas na ito ng office ko.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Ulit na tanong ni Laurence.

I smiled at him and nodded. But I am really shocked to receive such a gift early in the morning.

Si Fiona kaya ang nagpadala? I removed that thought. Wala kaming ebidensya.

I am really curious who Fiona is.

"I am thinking of hiring a bodyguard for you especially when I am not around" he suddenly said.

Nagulat ako. Hindi naman siguro kailangan na bantayan pa ako. Isa pa, I know he doesn't know about it but I am perfectly capable of defending myself.

I learned self defense way back in high school because tita Carol, Camille's mom wants me to.

And my instructor praised me every time because I am a fast learner and have a strong punch despite having a small body.

So I am confident na kaya kong protektahan ang sarili ko.

Umiling ako sa kanya. "I don't need bodyguards, Laurence."

"I want you to be safe at all times, Steph. This is for your own sake" he insisted.

"Do that and I won't talk to you ever again" pagbabanta ko.

I know na gusto pa nyang makipagtalo at mag insist na maghire ng bodyguard pero diretso ko syang tiningnan sa mata telling him that I really don't want to.

In the end, he looked defeated. "Alright. You are the boss. Why can't I resist you?" Tumingala ito at nagbuntong hininga ng malakas. "But be sure to be safe at all times. Don't go out alone."

He looks troubled and I'm kind of guilty.

Tumango ako and smiled.

"Don't worry. I can handle myself"
