STEPH'S POV

"Ms. Rachel Bautista, you're next." Tumayo na ang babaeng katabi ko at pumasok sa office kung saan iniinterview ang mga aplikante.

Days passed matapos kong magmukmok sa condo at mag ala ermitanya, finally naisipan kong mag move on sa buhay. Syempre, kahit masakit kailangan kong isink in sa isip ko na hindi lang kay Tristan umiikot ang buhay ko, na kailangan kong ayusin ang sarili ko dahil maraming nagmamahal sa akin.

So here I am at one of the most successful companies in the Philippines and abroad para mag-apply ng bagong trabaho.

Kung tutuusin, may sariling kompanya sila tita Carol and they told me na there's no need to apply for other companies since pwede akong pumasok sa company nila as Process Engineer kung saan nakafocus sa mga manufacturing plants and process layouts pero I want to work in a new environment, yung wala kang aasahan. I want to stand on my own. Isa pa, magkakaroon lang ng special treatment sa akin sa company nina Camille kaya ayoko din dun.

Camille's company, the Buenaventura Engineering services Inc. is one of the most successful design companies in the Philippines, and Villarama corp. is one of their clients dahil isa sa business ng Villarama group of companies ang mga condominiums and subdivision.

Pero dito ako nag apply sa isa nilang company which is the Villarama Laboratories Inc. kung saan nag mamanufacture sila ng mga drug products like IV fluids, tablets, capsules at iba pang mga gamot.

May trabaho naman ako dati, halos 5 years na din ako sa dati kong work as a Chemical Engineer in Research and Development team ng isang food company. And one of the reason why I quit ay dahil kasama ko sa trabaho si Tristan at Bridgette. Hindi ako bitter, ayoko lang maging masokista at lalong ayokong maging plastic. Mabuti na lang at pumayag agad ang HR Manager namin, though she told me na I could come back anytime.

I know this will be a very good diversion. Hoping that I made the right decision.

Ilang minuto lang ang lumipas ay nakita ko yung Rachel na lumabas ng office.

"Ms. Stephanie Dela Vega." Napapitlag ako nang marinig ang pangalan ko.

Tumayo na ako at tinungo ang office na itinuro sakin nung babaeng tumawag ng pangalan ko. Pero bago ko mabuksan ang pinto ay bumulong sakin yung babae, Ms. Fajardo ang apelyido niya based on her nameplate.

"Goodluck miss Dela Vega." Ngumiti siya sakin. Hindi yung ngiting plastic ha. Yung ngiting parang nag encourage.

"Thank you po." I smiled at her sweetly and then I opened the door of the office at pumasok na sa loob.

"Good Morning sir," bati ko. Hindi ko makita ang mukha niya dahil nakatalikod sa akin ang swivel chair na inuupuan niya. Naglakad ako palapit sa table niya.

Ilang segundo pa ay umikot ang inuupuan niya at nagulat ako kung sino ang nasa harapan ko ngayon dahil pamilyar ang mukha niya. Hindi ko lang malaman kung saan at kailan ko siya nakita.

"It's nice to see you again Ms. Stephanie Dela Vega." nakakalokong ngiti ang binigay nito sakin.

Kumunot ang noo ko. Again?

I heard him chuckle. He looked so amused "You don't remember me right? Angel?"

Tinitigan ko siyang mabuti at doon ko biglang naalala kung saan ko siya unang nakita. I knew it. He's the one at the bar. Yung unang lalaking kumausap sakin habang nasa counter ako.

Tumayo ito at inilahad ang kamay.

"Matthew Vergara is my name, Angel. I know hindi ko nagawang iintroduce and sarili ko before. You can call me Matt and I am the Vice President"

I accepted his hand. "Nice to meet you sir, but my name is Stephanie not Angel"

He laughed and let go of my hand.

"Oh, but you looked like an Angel to me. Anyway, please take a seat." Turo niya sa upuan na nasa tabi ko.

"Thank you sir"

"I never expected you to be here. I thought hindi na kita makikita after the bar incident. Well, talk about destiny."

Ngumiti lang ako bilang tugon dahil hindi ko din naman ang sasabihin.

"So let's get started." Tumikhim ito at seryosong tiningnan ang resume ko.

"You are 28 years old?"

"Yes sir"

"Oh I thought you were only 25. So tell me why you resigned from your previous job. You've worked for about 5 years as a Chemical Engineer in a food company. And now you are applying here as our Lead Inspector. Why the sudden change of heart?" Tumingin ito sakin. At least he's acting professional.

Huminga ako ng malalim. "It's hard to leave them sir because they've been my family for years already and I've learned so much from them. But I want to explore more and learn from a new environment. Being a Lead Inspector of a Manufacturing firm is a challenge but it will be a great opportunity. And of course, the salary sir is much higher"

He laughed again. "Too straightforward Angel"

I smiled. What I said was partly true. Although I did not include the real reason, I know he was satisfied with my answer.

"Okay, so what do you think is your greatest strength and how will it contribute to our company?"

"I can work well both independently and as a team. And I think one of the best assets of a company is a lead inspector who is dependable and reliable in work with less or no supervision at all and also has a great attitude towards co-workers. Moreover, I am a very versatile person, and I know sir that you know how Chemical Engineers were trained at work. And as for experience, since I've worked in a Food company, I was able to experience being a team leader in quality inspections during our internal audits," I answered with confidence.

"I see, very impressive" Tumango tango ito. "Well then, let's see each other again tomorrow?"

I was speechless. Tanggap na ba ako agad?

He picked the telephone and dialed some numbers.

"Hello, please instruct the remaining applicants to go home. I have found a perfect team leader for the inspection team. Thank you"

"Tanggap na po ako?" Di makapaniwala na tanong ko.

"Yes angel, and you need to report tomorrow morning at 8 am and para maintroduce ka sa ibang higher ups lalo na sa final boss, I mean President. Wag kang malelate dahil nangangain ng buhay ang Presidente ng kompanya. Baka masisante ka agad" pananakot nito pero naka half smile naman.

Napatawa ako ng mahina sa sinabi niya. Siguro matandang masungit ang presidente. Naiimagine ko tuloy na kalbo siya tapos malaki ang tiyan.

Tumikhim ako para pigilan ang pagtawa sa naisip.

"So it's settled then, I'll see you tomorrow okay? Congratulations" Tumayo ito at muling nilahad ang kamay. Tumayo na din ako at tinanggap iyon.

"Salamat po sir"

Matapos ay lumabas na din ako agad sa office niya. Ipinaliwanag ni Shey, yung Ms. Fajardo kanina, kung ano ang mga requirements na kailangan kong ihabol.

Pagkatapos ay umuwi na din ako sa condo at nagpahinga. Hopefully maging maayos ang araw bukas.
