Chapter 34 - The Engagement Party

I was dressed in a long black dress as the theme for the party was black and red. My dress flowed tightly until it reached my knees before it flared out like a mermaid tail.

Brandon had given me a jewellery set that consisted of a pair of tear drop earrings that had a big diamond in the centre and a necklace to match. I was wearing silver peep-toe heels to match the jewellery set.

"There's going to be a lot of paparazzi there. They're going to ask questions about Sophia Lancross. Just smile and ignore them. Four bodyguards will accompany us and help us get through the hoards of people." Brandon said as he instructed the Limo driver to begin the trip.

"I'm nervous," I said.

"It's alright. Hounding journalists are a little hard to get used to," He smiled kindly.

"I'm sure," I said stiffly as the vehicle began to move.

"Great," Brandon said, "So tomorrow night could you possibly accompany me to an Italian restaurant?" He asked politely as he peered into my eyes.

I was happy that he asked, and not demanded.

I nodded, "Of course!"

I was looking out the window when the driver began to speed up. The scenery was flying past. I couldn't make out a single detail. My heart began beating erratically. My palms were clammy. My breathing began to dangerously constrict causing me to gasp for air.

Brandon began to rub soothing circles on my back.

"Slow down!" He yelled at the driver who stepped on the brake forcing the car to a quick halt.

"Ashley! Talk to me what's wrong?" Brandon asked frantically as he felt my forehead.

"Car was moving too fast," I gasped placing my hand on my chest.

"Oh! I'm so sorry. I'll make sure he goes at a speed to your liking." Brandon promised as he pulled me into a hug.

When we finally reached the venue, Brandon's driver dropped us by the door before he left and went to find a parking space so he could wait for us.

"C'mon!" He said, "Don't let the paps scare you," He whispered in my ear.

"The paps?" I gulped.

"Paparazzi," He said.

The minute we had walked out, tons of paparazzi made their way over to us shouting random questions at us and snapping photos. I did as Brandon told me to, I smiled and didn't say anything.

We walked into the hall the engagement party was being held in. I spotted Melanie and Alessio holding hands and smiled at them. I was even more surprised to see Melissa hanging around with Perla, I didn't think they were friends.

I left Brandon's side and pulled Perla into a hug first and then Melissa second.

"I haven't seen you in a long time! I love your new hairstyle!" She said and touched my blonde hair.

"I hate the fact that she cut it," Melissa frowned.

I laughed, "A motto my best friend taught me was 'new hair, new start' and I guess I believed in it and decided to go all out," I said fingering the golden strands that were still growing.

"It does suit you," Perla smiled.

"Thanks, Pearls. It means a lot coming from you," I smiled at her.

"You're absolutely welcome Ashley," Perla said politely.
