Chapter 30 - The Court Case
________________________________

I accompanied Brandon and Nicholas with their teams of certified lawyers to the court to settle the case against Sophia Lancross. I grabbed Brandon's hand just wanting the personal comfort that came with our linked hands, for some strange reason when I linked hands with Brandon, I felt safe and at home. As the limo sped forward, my heart accelerated along with it.

When the limo stopped by the entrance our entire entourage walked with grace. Each step that Brandon and Nicholas took showed their power and arrogance. They were leading all of us as we scurried behind them, hoping they would halt their abnormally long strides.

We walked into the office of the judge and saw Sophia Lancross already sitting there, she was checking her makeup out in a compact mirror when we entered the room. Behind her, sat one lawyer who appeared to be tired. Her lawyer had dark under-eye circles as well as a hunched-over back, his silver hair was beginning to show, and the wrinkles around his eyes revealed his true age.

I grabbed Brandon's hand for reassurance as Sophia ran her eyes up and down my face, a wicked smirk gracing her seemingly flawless face. I felt Brandon's grip on my hand tighten as she turned her attention to him next. Her facial expression held a mischievous glint that caused fear to churn inside me. She appeared to be planning something.

The judge, Violet Miller, smiled and pointed towards our seat opposite to where Sophia was sitting.

"How are you guys?" The judge said with a small smile.

"Fantastic and you Judge Miller?" Brandon asked.

"I'm well. Thank you for asking. We will now begin this case. I invite Brandon and Nicholas's lawyers to present this case to us." Violet said.

"Very well," Brandon said taking control of the menacing situation, "James take it away."

A man from Brandon's team of lawyers stood and went to the podium at the center of the room.

"Good morning honorable judge and the floor. Today I bring to you my case of the accused Sophia Lancross. We have found evidence that the death of Alexandra Adonis was no mistake. The murderer of the famous Hollywood actress was no other than Sophia Lancross herself. We have found evidence that Alexandra Adonis was secretly dating Hollywood actor Lucas Ashcroft whom at the time was also seeing Sophia Lancross. After the murder, Sophia Lancross married FBI agent, Darren Gradley who helped her cover her tracks and has been for five years. Evidence shows that Miss Lancross is still targeting several people such as Ashley Hayes, Brandon Hawthorne, Nicholas Adonis, and strangely her accomplice, Darren Gradley. I would also like to point out that Sophia Lancross has been avoiding and breaking the law through tax evasion. We have evidence that proves that she has bribed a few government officials." James said before taking a seat.

Afterward, Paulo, the PI was called to the stand and had to testify under oath. After him, Nicholas went followed by Brandon and then me. The whole time that I was on the stand I was scared.

"Did you notice any strange behavior from Mr. Gradley whilst you were dating?" Sophia's lawyer asked.

I nodded and told him all about the knife incident that had happened and how he had profusely apologized.

The lawyer nodded his head before he continued to question me some more. I answered all of his questions as honestly as I could. I told him all the events that I could remember. When he was done he retreated back to his seat and I was helped off the stand and was allowed to go back to my seat in the crowd.

"What does the defendant have to say?" The judge asked after she finished writing down her notes and then began looking at Sophia's lawyer whose eyes were wide open, "Do you change and plead guilty of all that you have been charged?"

After a few moments, he began to talk, "Dear honest Judge Miller and fellow team. I today speak on behalf defending Miss Sophia Lancross from all accusations. We are unfortunately not going to plead guilty." He immediately said.

"Well, are you unable to help defend Miss Lancross?" The judge asked.

"I am. Who gave you the right to randomly investigate my client?" He asked looking at James.

James stood up, "Ashley Hayes was recently found in the hospital due to her fainting at her grandmother's, Alissa Hayes, funeral. She woke up and once provoked Darren said and I quote 'Just so you know I'm behind more than you think'. There were two witnesses in the room when this sentence was said, Brandon Hawthorne and Melanie Lanser.  Miss Hayes also recieved threatening notes at her apartment and all of this made Brandon Hawthorne suspicious and had his personal investigator look into the matter and he stumbled upon Sophia's plan." James smirked and sat down.

"Just plead guilty, your sentence will be less," Sophia's lawyer whispered to her.

"No!" Sophia shouted outraged, "I am not guilty! I never killed Alexandra Adonis! She was my best friend and we were close. I told her that she could have Ashcroft to herself and that I didn't want him. Why would I kill my best friend over a stupid, dumb guy when I have tons falling at my feet!" She hissed and flicked her hair to the side.

"You were jealous!" Nicholas said standing up, "You killed her because she was everything you weren't! She got the role of Evie and you didn't!" Nicolas yelled.

"Silence!" Judge Miller said banging her hammer against the table.

Everyone looked at her.

"We will take a break and then I will release the results. The case will resume in an hour. Miss Lancross if you recall anything that can help your case then I am willing to listen to it in an hour." She said looking sympathetically at Sophia and then at the watch on her wrist, "Case paused!" She yelled and banged her hammer before she left.

I sighed, "It's going well right?" I asked Brandon.

He nodded, "James is the best," He said and smiled at James who saluted him in return.

"He really is. He sounds so professional when he talks!" I said in awe.

"Yeah. I mean it is his job after all," Brandon smiled.

I gave him a hug and he looked shocked but hugged me back anyways.

"I can't wait to get this over with," I murmured into Brandon's chest.

"Same, love, same." He said.

After an hour Judge Miller returned. She studied all our facial expressions before she cleared her throat.

"Case resumed!" She yelled.

"Sophia?" She turned to Sophia who looked dead, "Do you have anything?"

"I plead guilty," She whispered.

"You bi-" Nicholas began to yell.

"Silence!" The judge yelled.

Nicholas was fuming. If looks could kill, I'd bet my life's earnings that she would be a million feet underground.

"I find the accused guilty." Judge Miller said, "Your punishment will be a lifetime in prison."

"What?" Sophia shrieked and slapped her lawyer, "You said that she'd go easy if I told her the truth!"

"I said she might. You're a murderer Sophia." Her lawyer said and walked off.

"I hate you all!" She yelled before she was handcuffed and taken away for a lifetime.

Hey Guys!

Chapter 30 is out! And Sophia got locked away! Yay! She got what she deserved.

I have never written or actually watched a court case scene, so I apologize if this isn't the way it goes; I did try my best :)
