Woke Up To My Sister Screaming

for background: i was living in a town that was fairly close to the "bad part of the city" where a lot of crime happens. before i moved away, there were multiple shootings in a week. i had lived in this apartment for about a year at this point with my mother and my sister. my mom and step-dad got divorced, so we had to move into an apartment. we didn't have much money, so we moved into the cheapest apartment we could find. it felt pretty safe, but as time went on i got more uncomfortable with living there. the way we locked our sliding glass door and windows was with wooden pieces. we were on the first floor so we always made sure to put the wood in. onto the story

so, the day started out fine. it was a nice day in may and i went to school like normal. i got on the bus to come home, and when i got there, the lights were out. that was weird, so i called my mom and she told me she made a payment plan with the electric company so they shouldn't be off. she called and they said we're sorry, we can turn them on, but we can't turn them on until 10 am the next day. we are like alright, whatever. the day after that goes normally, and we go to bed.

i randomly wake up and hear my sister yell, "THEY'RE IN THE HOUSE!" and then my mom screams so loud, i thought she would break the windows. i hear "oh my god, oh my god," and then our sliding glass door closing. i am frozen in bed and i don't want to get up, terrified that there might still be an intruder in the house and in my room. my mom asks if i'm awake and i tell her i am, but i'm too afraid to get up. she comes to my room and reassures me and we go outside and call the cops. turns out my mom left her car unlocked so they ransacked her car and then we apparently forgot to put the wood in the door, so they were able to get in. at this point, i am too terrified to stay so we call my grandma, who was thankfully awake, and she brought us to her house while my mom stays at our apartment with the police.

my sister saw two intruders, white males in their teens to twenties. they took about $140 from my mom's purse (my stepdad had just paid her some money he owed her), my moms makeup, they threw everything around our yard, and literally SHIT on our front porch and used a cloth type thing from my mom's car to wipe their ass. they tried to take our bike but didn't succeed. BUT they came back and took it.

we recently moved to a new apartment and we are on the 3rd floor, but i still have nightmares and panic attacks at night if i wake up from the slightest noise because i think they're in the house.

so, to whoever broke into my house on may 23rd 2019, lets not meet again.
