Chapter 15:

Ryan's POV:

"Um hi... can I come in?" I asked Melissa. I was very hesitant but I tried my best not to show it.

"Sure" She said.

I took a step inside. The house was exactly the same as it were a year ago. The same worn out sofas, the same pictures hung on the wall, the smell of good food and

some strong aftershave around the house, the cream coloured walls, the same feeling of home, the same cosiness..."

Everything was right in front of me... countless number of times I had been here, the movies we had watched, the pillow fights we had gotten into, the projects Melissa

worked on, mine as well as hers...

Snap out of it, I scolded myself, and I saw Melissa looking at me intently, like she was trying to get some answers, trying to figure out some serious stuff.

"Um... would you like a glass of water or some juice?" She asked.

"Nah, I'm good." I said shoving my hands into my pocket.

I could make out Melissa's nervousness as she tucked her hair behind her ear and kept on shifting her weight from one foot to another.

"Um... come sit" she said looking at one of the sofas.

"Can we go sit on the front porch and talk?" I asked hopefully.

I could feel the nervousness building within me too and I figured fresh air would do me some good.

"Sure" She said and led the way outside.

She must have been really working out hard as I realized she had really toned herself as I saw her perfect figure.

We got seated on the steps and she looked at me, waiting for me to say something. She had a questioning look in her eyes which was completely justified. Perhaps I had

alot of explanation to do.

"So... um... I guess I have a pile of questions to answer..." I said and smiled slightly.

She just nodded and waited for me to speak.

"I think... I think I should start by apologizing to you for last night... I... I shouldnt have snapped at you like that and... Well, I am just sorry because I

honestly have no excuses which I could offer..."

She just looked at me but I couldnt read the expression on her face.

"We moved away because..." I had to do it, I had to open myself in front of her. She deserved to know the whole story. She had been my friend, a very good friend and I

am sure I could trust her.

"Well, when John died it was a shock to all of us, especially Linda.. Linda just lost it... No matter how much she tried she just couldn't cope up with the loss...

First mom and dad then John, Linda just lost the last ray of hope that was left... and then Linda..." I stopped. It was too hard, I shut my eyes in an effort to block

all the images that had come to my mind. Instead, the image, that scene of Linda laying on the bathroom door with blood pouring from her wrist, her lifeless body, her

closed eyes which had held pain for so long... that very scene took over me. I clenched my hands into fists and tried my best not to snap at him again.

"Linda... After Linda died Charlie was the worst affected. Linda knew Charlie better than any of us, and Charlie was the closest to Linda's heart. I didn't know how to
