Chapter 37: Talking

If I don't get back soon, I'm going to loose my mind. Having my dad and my sister is nice. Meeting Klaus and Hayley is nice. But I miss my brothers and Hope.

I've been stuck in this place for almost a full day and there's no hope of me getting out. If I'm stuck here for all of eternity, I most definitely will lose my mind.

"Hey, mind if we walk with you?" Hayley and Klaus walk up to me.

"Sure." We are all quiet as we walk. We're all thinking about Hope. She's the only thing we have in common. Our love for her.

Hayley leads us to a huge body of water. She says that it's one of her favorite places to be. It's her favorite place because Hope used to love playing in the water as a kid.

"It's beautiful." Klaus and Hayley both nod.

"Do you love her?" Klaus stares off at the water. He seems like he's in deep thought. Hope has the same look as him when she's thinking about something.

"Yeah. I do." I chuckle a little. I've never told her. If I'm going to be stuck here than she'll never know how I feel.

"Have you told her?" Hayley smiles hugely. She seems happy that someone loves her daughter. She won't be as happy when I say I haven't told Hope.

"No. I tried to before I um..." I trail off and look at Klaus and Hayley. They know what I mean so they nod. "She told me not to say it. She wanted to hear it later."

Klaus laughs a little. "Like father, like daughter. She was that determined to save you?" I nod. "Well it seems as if she's in love with you too."

A huge smile comes across my face. She's never told me, but now thinking about it she's showed it multiple times. My smile falls as I think about how I've showed my love.

"What's wrong?" Hayley gives me a concerned look. She waits patiently as I begin to answer.

"I don't deserve her. The reason I was even in the weird human-lizard fight was because I left the school. I left Hope."

They stay silent for a while. The only sound is distant talking, the wind, and the water.

The wind blows and the water makes little sounds. It sounds calming and peaceful.

Hayley and Klaus exchange a look before Hayley responds.

"And why would you do that? Leave, I mean. Why?"

I think about the conversation I overheard before deciding to leave. The necklace was making me dangerous.

"I heard Hope talking to my brothers and Dr. Saltzman. They said that I was dangerous to the school. It was because of this necklace that I wore.."

I reach for the place where the necklace was. "Oh. It's not their anymore, but the necklace controlled me. It made me hurt people, so I left. I couldn't get rid of it because it mean the death of someone I loved."

"Sometimes we unintentionally hurt the people that we love. You made a mistake. Doesn't mean you don't love Hope or that you love her any less."

Klaus looks at Hayley and smiles. "Take us for example. There was multiple times I made mistakes. Hayley was so mad at me. She probably even hated me, but they'll forgive you. Only if it's true love. I think what you have with our daughter is true."

Hayley smiles back at him. She looks proud of him. Hope told me the stories of her dad being the big bad wolf and craving power. How he never cared about anyone else.

That must be why Hayley's smiling because even though they've known each other for such a long time, she knows his dark period was longer. It was centuries of him inflicting pain and chaos on people. Looking at him now it doesn't seem as if he's ever been that way.
