In the middle of the night, there is a scream. Whoever the scream belongs to doesn't stop screaming.

All lights come on and others are starting to scream too. I run out of my room. "Alexa!"

"Jed?" He's barely able to get to me because of the kids running around. He jumps over a few.

"Are you alright?" Jed looks at me up and down making sure there is nothing wrong with me. "I'm fine Jed. Are you okay? You have a black eye."

Jed shakes his head. "I'm fine. We have to go. Rafael is looking for you."

*Jed and Alexa are pushing through the crowds of people.*

"Alexa!" Rafael comes up and hugs me briefly.

"Rafael! What's going on?" My eyes search for any sign of him being hurt. He doesn't have a scratch on him.

"We can't talk now. Follow me."

*A couple minutes have passed. Alaric, Hope, Alexa, Rafael, and Landon are all in Alaric's office.*

Hope seems annoyed. "This isn't anything new, Dr. Saltzman. The kids have fights all the time. Why do we have to have some meeting about it?"

Alaric looks like he was in deep thought. "Because it's happening too much." He seemed to be talking to himself. "Hope, out of the ten years you have been at this school, how many times have there been a fight... this huge?"

Hope sighs. She seems like she's realizing that he's right. "Once. It was five years ago and two kids were fighting over a table. A new vampire and a new werewolf who were unable to control themselves." Hope doesn't seem to be annoyed anymore. She just seems tired.

"Something's not right here. There has already been five huge fights and it's only Thursday."

"Maybe it's a new monster." Rafael stands up and stretched. It's pretty early. We're all really tired.

Alaric nods. "That's exactly what I was thinking, Raf." Alaric doesn't seem to be tired. He seems like he's been up for hours.

Landon's phone starts to ring. "Oh. It's MG he says he needs some help fixing some broken table. See you guys later."

"How are we supposed to know who this monster is though? With every single monster there has been some sort of sign. Some signal that they were here."

"Maybe you could lure it out." My voice is loud, but sleepy.

"Well, Alexa, how do you suppose we do that?" His mood changes. Alaric seems really frustrated. He rubs the temple of his head.

"Obviously this monster wants us to focus on these fights. It must be making the students fight so that we all focus on that while it looks for this urn or whatever it's called."

"Good thinking, Alexa." I smile at Hope.

"Yeah. Let's head out." Alaric and Hope walk out the door. When I try to follow, Rafael grabs my arm.

"I'm hoping you're not planning on being apart of whatever they're about to do." Rafael said he doesn't want me out of his sight until we figure out what's going on. He doesn't want me to trigger my curse like he did.

"Uh... yeah. That was the plan. I'm new here. I don't want them to think that I'm some lazy student."

Rafael hugs me and laughs. "They aren't going to think your lazy. Besides, it doesn't matter as long as you're safe."

"But-"

Rafael raises a finger. "No buts. Jed is coming to watch over you until we get things figured out."

"Oh sure. I'm not safe going out there to fight monsters but I'm safe with the weird kid who called me 'hottie'"

Jed appears out of nowhere. "I'm not some weird kid. Luckily, I have all of today to prove that to you."

"Thanks, bro." Rafael and Jed do their guy hand shake before Rafael walks out.

"You can leave now. I'm pretty sure you don't want to babysit all day."

Jed shakes his head laughing. "Not usually. Although for a cute girl like you, I don't mind wasting a day. Now, what do you want to do?"

I shrug. "I don't know. Go blow something up."

Jed nods. "Okay. Let's go."

"Wait you're not actually serious, right?"

"Of course I am. Let's go."

*Jed and Alexa walk through the school.*

Jed tried to hold my hand, but I moved my hand away. He kept trying though, so eventually I gave in and held his hand.

"You know I don't like holding your hand. It's all huge and sweaty like some animal."

"Considering the fact that I basically am an animal that's not really an insult."

"Whatever." Jed laughs a little.

Jed takes me to some place that seems like a basement.

"What is this place?"

"It's a place for when werewolves are transitioning, but I like to come down here whenever I feel angry. You seem like you're angry about something."

"What are you? Some sort of mind reader?" My laugh is to cover up the fact that he's right. I am angry about something.

Jed stays serious. "Call it a hunch. Come on it'll make you feel better."

I fold my arms. "Well it doesn't matter because anger is useless if you can't do anything about it."

"Well then let's do something. See that that punching bag over there? I want you to think about all of the times you've cried, all the times you've felt bad about yourself, all the times you felt alone. Think about the people who abandoned you, think about the normal life you want because could never have."

Jed stands behind me. He says the words into my ear. "It's not working."

"Think, Alexa!"

"Jed-"

"Think!"

"No. I-"

"Focus Alexa!"

"I can't!" As I yell, the punching bag starts swinging back and forth.

"Now go. Punch the bag with all of your strength."

"Aaaahhhh!" My punch to the bag breaks it. All of the stuffing comes out. After a few moments of me panting, Jed walks up to me.

"Feel better?"

"Actually... Yeah."

"Told ya."

*Jed and Alexa sit on the floor*

"Alexa, what caused all that?"

My chuckle is dry. "Life."

Jed face is filled with concern. "What about life?"

"Well, my parents decided they didn't want me. This lady that I was with decided she didn't want me either. My boyfriend and friend decided they didn't want me either. I guess a life of not feeling wanted."

Jed raises an eyebrow. "Boyfriend?"

My chuckle this time sounds fuller. "Ex. His name is Chris, but he left."

Jed nods and smiles. "What a lame, but okay. Now I can really make my move." We both laugh.

Suddenly, Jed stops laughing. He turns his body towards me. "All jokes aside, I'm sorry you had such a crappy life."

A small smile creeps onto my face. "Thanks." Jed nods.

Our face are inches apart. After a moment, I put my head on Jed's shoulder. We stay like that with our backs against the wall for a long time.
