Chapter 9: The make-out

Hope's voice wakes me up. "Hey. Alexa?"

The sun shines bright in my eyes. "Ugh."

"I have the same reaction in the morning, but today is different." She smiles as she gets up. Her hair falls to her other shoulder.

"You seem happy."

Hope smiles at me. I know that she really isn't happy. She's hurting, but she doesn't deserve to focus so heavily on that pain. "After crying last night, I decided that crying wasn't going to make Landon want me again. I have to move on. Take sometime for myself or find someone new."

That last part causes my heart to start beating fast. "Well I'm happy for you. Do you have anyone in mind?"

Hope stops and thinks for a moment. "I might have someone in mind."

I jump out of bed quickly. "Oh really? Who?"

Hope's eyes widen. "Whoa. Don't be so eager to find out. I don't think I'm going to tell you. Not because I don't trust you, but because I'm not even sure about my feelings for her yet."

It's a her. That means I have a possibility of dating Hope. No other girl is available. Penelope and Josie are dating, Lizzie is straight, and there is no other girl that I know of. It has to be me.

"We should go get breakfast."

My face must've shown my confusion because Hope stares at me weirdly.

"Are you okay, Alexa?" Her blue eyes show concern. My heart quickens. Her lips turned into a little smile. My heart beats faster. Her hair is messy perfect. My heart is about to explode.

"I'm fine. Just a little tired."

"Oh. I can come back while you sleep a little longer."

"No!" My voice is loud as Hope turns to leave. It kind of scared her. "I mean, I don't want to miss a chance to hang out with a friend."

Hope smiles at me. "Okay then." She walks back to me and links arms.

Hope asked me if I wanted to eat in her room with her. One look in the cafeteria told me my answer, Rafael sat with Landon and the wolves. Josie and Penelope snuck off somewhere. Lizzie sat with some boy. Jed looks up at me. He smiles and waves, but then he goes back to talking.

There is some girl sitting next to him. She has strawberry blond hair with green eyes. Her arm is on Jed's arm. They talk. They're faces only inches apart. The girl sees me and she gives me this tiny smirk and goes back to talking to Jed.

Hope watches me watch them. "Hey. Boys really do suck, huh?"

"Yeah." Hope's eyes drift to Landon. They make eye contact, but Landon quickly breaks it.

"Suddenly I've lost my appetite."

I nod. "Me too."

Hope leads me to her room. "Wow. You're room is really clean."

Hope shrugs. "I don't ever clean." She gestures towards her bed. We both sit down.

It's silent for a while. Hope suddenly smiles. "Why don't we work on a few spells?"

"I really don't feel like blowing things up, Hope."

"Don't worry. You'll be fine."

Hope grabs the grimoire. "Okay. Something simple."

On a nearby table is two plants. Hope grabs both and places them on the bed.

"Repeat after me. Phasmatos Tribum, Melan Veras. Phasmatos Tribum, Melan Veras."
