"She was perfectly normal. No signs of her wanting to harm anyone." Rafael sounds disappointed and troubled.

"Are you sure? There was nothing?" Hope voice sounds panicky. Her voice is closer. It seems like she's sitting right next to me.

"You seen her today, Hope. She wasn't acting weird."

It's silent for a moment. I'm awake, but scared to get up. They might think I meant to do those things. When I actually didn't. Sure I'm the one who hit a guy and inflicted pain on two, but I didn't mean to. Something was controlling me.

Alaric, Hope, Rafael, and Landon are all in Alaric's office.

"She's awake." Everyone turns towards me. Their faces are all confused. Each one shocked by what I did.

"Hey, guys." My voice sounds soft and scared. I'm afraid of what'll happen. Will I get kicked out of the school? What would happen then?

"Don't 'hey guys' us. What were you thinking, Alexa?!" Alaric is standing behind his desk. He looks the angriest. "I let you guys go to town to have fun. Not to reveal yourselves."

I sit all the way up. "Wait, the humans know about us?"

Alaric shakes his head. "No. Luckily Kaleb was able to compel them, but the point isn't what happened. It's what almost happened. Do you have any idea what you could've done?"

"I'm sorry." It's not a lie. My intention was never to go to town and hurt the students there. All I wanted was to cloak us and scare them a little, but that was harmless. They would've never suspected we would do that.

"Give her a break, Dr. Saltzman. Everyone makes mistakes." Hope gives Alaric a pleading look.

We go quiet again. Nobody really knows what to say until there is a shock in my body. "Ow."

Everyone looks at me. Hope looks at me intensely. "What was that?"

"Ow." The shock happens again.

"It's the necklace. Take the necklace off." Landon says. He doesn't anyone get the chance though. He's already taking the necklace off me.

"Hey! This was a present from my father."

He gives me a "are you serious" look. Hope takes the necklace from his hands,

"It must have been why you were acting so weird." Alaric takes the necklace from Hope.

"I'll give this to Emma. Maybe she could help."

Alaric leaves out of the room. It goes quiet again. Everyone looks from one another. Landon tries to get rid of the awkwardness.

"I see there is no more family fun time." He tries to laugh a normal laugh but it comes across awkward.

That next morning starts off calm. It's normal. I get dressed, brush my teeth, do my hair and makeup. It's just like a normal human day.

That is until Emma came to get me from the cafeteria. She carries a huge book in her hands.

"What is it, Emma?"

She has this proud smile on her face. "I figured it out. Took me all night, but I did it."

"Okay, so what's wrong with it?"

"It's a necklace that controls you. Your family had it for a long time, passing it down. Everyone knew about the family history, so nobody put it on. They didn't ruin it because it was a family thing. It follows you, waiting for you to put it on."

Emma tries to make her voice sound scary. When she's done talking, she exhales loudly. "That sure was a lot."

"So what do I do now?"

"I say we destroy it." Penelope comes walking around a corner. She always appear out of nowhere. Sometimes she scares me. Today isn't one of those times.

"I can be the only mean girl here, and at least my mean girl personality is real." She takes the necklace from Emma. "And not some fake." Penelope gives me a small smile.

"Chill. I don't want to be a mean girl. It's not the plan." She raises her eyebrows. "It doesn't suit me."

Penelope's focused on the necklace. "It's pretty. How do we destroy it Emma?"

Emma flips through the book. "It says using fire is the best way, but the owner will lose someone close to them."

Losing another person? No way. I've already lost my mom, sister, and dad. The people I care most about is Lizzie, Hope, Landon, And Rafael. I can't loose them.

"Okay, so I'll just ignore the necklace. Put it in a box or something."

Emma and Penelope nod. They both walk away after a while. Rachel comes and sits next to me.

"Hey, cool necklace." She smiles and points at my neck.

The family necklace sits around my neck. It was just on the table. Emma never told me that it would stay on me only with me.

"Oh thanks." I take off the necklace and Rachel looks at me confused.

"Why'd you take it off?"

The necklace and the questions makes me a little mad. "Let's change the subject. Okay?"

Rachel nods and starts talking about one of her classes. Some girl in her class had spilled a chemical all over her shoes. The one-sided conversation starts to fade.

The only thing I can focus on is the necklace. It's as if something causes me to gravitate towards it. My resistance isn't enough. It's stronger then me.

Rachel stops mid sentence as I quickly put on my necklace. She raises an eyebrow at me. I give her a smile.

"Continue." She gives me one last weird look before talking about her class again. When I try to pay attention, my mind wanders off. The only I can think about is throwing Rachel across the room. Or something bigger, something better.

The urn. That's what the necklace is telling me. Without a word to Rachel, I get up and start walking through the school. She follows me.

"Alexa? Alexa, wait up!" Her heels are loud against the floor. I have to get that urn.

My mind isn't strong enough to fight this. The necklace doesn't come off as I try to rip off. It just burns me. It takes all of my energy.

Rachel looks at me weirdly as I try to take off the necklace again and again. Out of frustration, I yell.

A bright light shines in my eyes from the necklace, so I break it. A stinging feeling washed over me. Almost like electricity.

"Alexa!" Rafael tries to grab me, but I make him fly against a wall. Lizzie and Josie come shortly after Raf. They both say the same spell while siphoning the school. My head hits the ground with my eyes closed.
