"You don't have to help me. I got this."
"No. No. I want to."
We kept on having that conversation every thirty minutes. Before coming here, getting ready took ten minutes maximum. That was because I didn't have much. The same two pairs of outfits stayed with me since I was twelve. My tooth brush stayed with me since I was thirteen.
Coming to the Salvatore Boarding School was the best thing for me. It may have opened me up to a world of the supernatural and of pain, but I feel less lonely here. I also get to be somewhat normal because I can take an hour getting ready. It sort of feels like being a normal fifteen year old girl. Except it's not.
The best part about being here is Hope. Besides my brothers she was the only one who kept me happy. She had protected me, held me when I was lonely, comforted me when I was sad, and make me laugh. She made me happy. And now? The thought of seeing her will inflict a different sort of pain. A pain that I've never felt. A type of pain that I never knew was possible.
My thoughts are interrupted by Lizzie bursting into my room. She has this impatient look on her face.
"Ugh. Alexa, are you ready? Raf is waiting for you outside."
"Coming, Lizzie."
My mind was so set on Hope, Rafael had slipped from my mind. He probably was waiting outside for a long time.
On the way to the party Lizzie talks. "We always throw parties here. It's perfect. Right on campus, but it doesn't feel like it at all. Its our own little place. Here."
Students are doing tricks from off of the wooden structure. It looks pretty old, but I guess that's normal. This school did belong to a family from the 1800's.
Josie and Penelope are laughing and talking. They greet us when they see us.
Josie is overly happy. "Hey guys."
We all sit down at the fire for a while talking and laughing. After a moment, Lizzie drags me into the woods.
"I'm so glad I wore jeans. You never said anything about walking through a freaking forest."
Lizzie rolls her eyes a little, but her smile is huge. She abruptly stops causing me to bump into her a little.
"Lizzie!"
I look from Lizzie to a figure. A girl figure. It's Hope.
"Lizzie, what is this?" Lizzie turns to me and gives me a huge smile.
"Look I know that you and Hope had your fight and you guys broke up, but you guys deserve each other. And you got to admit-". Lizzie turns towards Hope who is walking up with Landon.
"You're crazy about her."
She was right. I wasn't sure if I loved Hope, but I knew that I cared for her. She made me laugh. Her smile made me smile. Not seeing Hope drove me crazy.
That may seem crazy to everyone else considering the fact I'm only fifteen, but Hope had some sort of power over me. She made me care about her in a very short time.
Lizzie walks up to Hope and Landon. Lizzie and Landon walk away smiling at us as Hope and I stand awkwardly.
We stare at each other. My eyes wander to Hope's outfit. She wore a skirt with a shirt. Her hair was put into a ponytail and her makeup was natural. She looked beautiful. By the way Hope stared at me, I knew she was taking me in too.
After a quiet moment, she smiles at me. "On the walk here, Landon said that me and you were soulmates. He said that we belong together."
"Maybe he's right. I care about you...a lot, but the things that you said- I can't look past that. When you said those things about my dad, it didn't feel like you. It didn't feel real."
She looks down at her hands. The guilt is visible on her face, but faking just to make her happy would mean another argument. The only way to have hope of getting back together is to be honest.
"You're right, Alexa. It's just your dad had triggered a nerve. First, talking about you. Then talking about my family. It triggered something inside of me and I wasn't the same for the rest of that day."
Me and Hope stare at each other for a while. Her hopeful expression returns after a while. She slowly walks behind me and puts my necklace on.
"How did you save it?" An instant amount of guilt and pain rushes over me.
"Burnt myself, but I managed to get it." She laughs a little. I turn around and face her. The moon shines a light on her face. Her small smile makes the view even better.
"Hope-" My eyes close as she takes my hand. The feeling of her hand feels so familiar. It feels great to finally touch her again.
"Look out!" Alaric comes running by me and Hope. A griffin comes flying ahead of us. Two more fly ahead after them.
Alaric tried to attack one, but it knocks him over.
"Dr. Saltzman!" Hope runs over to Alaric she kneels and tries to help him up.
"Hope, look out!" A griffin swoops down and knocks Hope over. She falls to the floor hitting her head. The griffin comes down and picks me up.
"Let me go! Let me go!" The griffin starts to fly higher and higher. Rafael runs over to where I am.
"Alexa!" Landon comes behind him yelling to but I can't hear. The other two griffins fly after the one holding me.
"Let me go! Let me go!" My yells are useless. These are birds who don't understand me. The higher the birds fly the less air I feel, eventually I fall unconscious.
