Chapter 10:

"Yes!"

It's been a few hours since I asked Hope to be my date. We are both getting ready in Hope's room. I'm putting on Hopes make up when she asks me a question. "Why did you ask me to be your date? You could've asked Lizzie or Josie or Jed."

"You were the only person I'm interested in."

Hope smiles. "Listen, I don't want to get your hopes up. This party is just a friend thing, okay?"

"I know. You're not ready for a relationship, but when you are, I'll be right here. I can wait. As long as I get to be your friend in the meantime, I'm good."

She hides a smile behind her hand. I walk over to her and remove her hand. "Don't cover up your smile. It's too pretty."

She rolls her eyes laughing. "Do you realize how corny that was?"

"Well, it's the truth."

Once we both get done, we walk out of the school. Alaric has asked where we were going and we told him. His advice to us was to be careful, and we agreed to be extra careful.

At the school, there is lights flashing everywhere. People dressed in really fancy outfits surround us.

"I really don't like the locals."

"Hey, this is a chance for us to be normal for once. Let's not focus on saving the world and instead focus on silly things like what song is coming on next. Let's go."

Inside of the school, students are making out and dancing.

"My mom wasn't into this sort of stuff, but my aunt loved it."

"And you?"

"Alexa, truth is I haven't been to enough parties to know an opinion."

"Well let's make sure that after tonight your opinion is a positive one."

I spin Hope and she laughs surprised. After dancing for a while, Hope takes off her shoes. "I'm thirsty."

"Let's get something."

The fruit punch most definitely wasn't fruit punch. "There's alcohol in this Hope. Should we keep drinking?"

"Yeah." We keep drinking the punch. After a while, we are on the dance floor laughing. "You know I haven't been able to stop thinking about you Alexa."

"What?" The music is so loud.

"I said-" The music continues playing loud. Hope points towards the door. "Let's go outside."

We walk past several couples making out. Each time we make a disgusting noise and laughing. We find an area on the bleachers, and sit down. The moonlight sky shines bright. Hope watches me watch the sky.

"It's so beautiful. Not to get all poetic, but think about the endless possibilities the stars has to go. It can literally go anywhere."

Hope looks away from me and towards the sky. "I think that stars are prisoners. They can't really go anywhere. It just seems like it to us but in reality they're really like us. Alone and prisoners. Wow. That got really poetic."

We both laugh, and make eye contact. "I really like you Alexa."

"I can't take that serious, Hope. One minute we are having a on full on make out session and the next I'm just a friend. Make up your mind."

"You're right, and I'm sorry. It's just after my last relationship, I haven't been able to function right, but I think I'm getting it together."

"So what are we Hope?"

Hope opens her mouth to speak, but is cut off. "No matter that."

A guy with a bald head shows up. He's dressed in all black which it harder to see him. He stands in the dark.

Hope steps in front of me. "Who are you?"

The guy laughs. "Names Will. I'm Alexa's father." He says as he steps into the light. "And my daughter hasn't exactly been following orders."

"Orders? What orders are you talking about?"

Will whispers, "Ad somnum."

Hope falls to the floor, unconscious. He turns towards me.

"Please dad. Don't."

He talks louder. "You didn't follow orders and for that you will be punished. Ossox."

My entire body falls to the floor. The bones in my body start to break. "Aaaaahhhhh."

After what felt like hours, I fall to the floor unconscious.
