21 | Jack Kline x Reader

Start from the beginning

"I can't sleep now," you whimper, your eyes now permanently open and alive with a dim sparkle. Becoming bored, you begin to stare at your bedside table, watching the minutes on your clock slowly tick by. Not much time later, you start to feel Jack's tender touch brush against your arms soothing waiting any of the cold that managed creep under the covers. You smile into your pillow, your heart fluttering at his kind gesture.

Soon the two of you plummet into a comfortable silence. No one uttered a word until a whole hour happened to pass. The two of you were just so wrapped up in each other embrace that conversation along with sleep just simply disappeared.

"How many children do you want," Jack suddenly whispers next to your ear, making your heart skip a few beats. Your eyes widen as your brain sluggishly processes the words. At first, you begin to believe that you had miss heard him, but when you feel his heartbeat increase against your back, your mind starts to search for an answer.

"Jack..." you start, but you are cut off rather quickly when he senses he's not going to get the answer he was looking for.

"You don't have to answer, Y/N," he blurts out, making you smile despite your better judgment.

"If I answer, can we try and get some sleep together," you counter offer with a hint of confidence in your voice. Though your back was turned to him, he could basically see your eyebrow raise and your eyes glimmer with determination.

"Maybe."

Shaking your head, you let out a little laugh. He was just as feisty as you were, a trait he definitely picked up from Dean.

"I want two. A boy and a girl," you answer honestly, laying your head back against your pillow again. This time you were hell-bent on falling back to sleep before the night bitterly turned into day. But as you guessed it, Jack had other plans.

"When do you want them," Jack asks cheekily, a brood smirk spreading across his lips.

"Not now," you fire back quickly. Despite the rejection, you feel him nod his head in agreement. Though the idea of having two little rascals running around the bunker driving everyone totally insane was nice to think about, you both were still pretty young to be having children. Not the mention, your brother would most likely kill him. Hell, they didn't even know you two were dating yet!

"I won't be opposed to that idea of having some in the future, though."

"I would like that very much, baby," he says, dragging you closer. If that was even possible!

There is another pause between the two of you, which leads you to believe that Jack may have fallen asleep. Somewhat comforted by the silence, you let your eyes close, only for them to widen again at the sound of your name.

"Y/N?"

"What is this? Twenty questions?"

The frustration is clearly written in your voice, but it seems to dissipate a few moments later when you feel his grip on you tighten again.

"What if I lose you?"

At the sound of his words and the vulnerability in his voice, you had lost all feeling of drowsiness. Instead, your heart increased in rhythm and your body soften against his hold. Never in million years would you have ever thought you would hear such seriousness lace his tone. Taking a deep breath, you slowly turned over so that you were now facing him. He avoids your gaze for a second, before getting the nerve to look at you completely. He smiles despite himself, finding your face adorable when it was all squished up and drowned in the fluffiness of your bedspread. For a moment his concern fades away and he takes a second to admire your beauty. You smile back dropping the question for a quick second, enjoying his close company.

But soon his usual light blue eyes turn into a deep navy like water during the night. His face fell, the beautiful smile that you loved so much gone within an instant. You weren't entirely sure, but you could have sworn you had seen a glimpse of wetness in his eyes. The thought makes your lips frown as you detected his sudden sadness.

"Is this why you can't sleep," you murmur gently as if you were trying not to spoke him. Wanting to comfort him, you rest your left hand against his cheek. You stroke his smooth skin with your thumb making sure to catch his silent tears.

"Yes," he answers, his chest trembling with sincerity. "I almost lost you a few days ago and I haven't been able to sleep since."

"Since Thursday," you gasp with shock. Thursday's hunt was a lot longer than a few days. It was now Tuesday night and six days without sleep left him restless. He nods, shifting his stare downward in shame. It pained you, the fact that you hadn't noticed sooner, but you now you were intent on fixing it.

"Hey! Look at me, baby."

When he doesn't comply with your wishes, you place the tip for your finger underneath his chin, tilting his head upward to look at you.

"Listen to me, okay? You're not going to lose me. Ever. I'm not going anywhere, baby. I promise."

Slowly his smile reappears and his heartbeat simmers becoming relaxed at your reassuring words. He anxiously wants to say something back, but the words die in his throat. In its place, he does the next best thing. He leans in capturing your lips in a zealous kiss. When he feels your smile against his mouth, he draws you in closer and strengthens his hold. He wishes he never has to let you go and you wish you could be held in his embrace forever, but eventually, the need for air breaks the two of you apart. Not quite ready to end the moment, he lays his forehead against yours. You both close your eyes, your frantic breaths mingling with each other.

"I love you, Y/N," Jack says between his pants, trailing kisses against your face and neck, allowing him to hear your lovely fits of laughter.

"I love you too, Jack," you giggle, his soft lips peppering your skin with light pecks. Soon he's laughing alongside you, his small chuckles like music to your ears. Resting your head on his chest lazily, you listen to the sound of his steady heartbeat. He leaves a delicate kiss at the top of your head before nuzzling his face into your strawberry scented hair. He intertwines your hand with his, placing them across his stomach. His other arm wraps around you protectively, holding you for the rest of the night.

"Can we try to sleep now?"

"Of course, baby!"
