As soon as they're back to Pavel's room he shows her the scar on his leg from where he was bitten. Vienna studies it and asks him a lot of questions about it. They have class in the morning but she decides to stay and Pavel has no objection to the idea. She has a tooth brush in his bathroom and they brush together, laughing and nudging each other out of the way of the sink. Pavel suggests they get into the scotch and Vienna questions why he drinks scotch and not vodka. He rolls his eyes at the question, muttering something about a Russian stereotype.

Pavel digs a blanket out of the cupboard and takes a seat on the lounge, yawning to himself. She asks what he's doing and he wonders if it's a serious question or not.

"Just sleep with me, Pavel."

He raises an eyebrow.

"I mean like..." her face quickly goes red and she realises what she said. "I just meant share the bed with me, I trust you. I don't have a problem with it."

He nods and pulls the blanket off the couch, tossing it on the bed instead. He knows his face is heating up, an awkwardness kicking in. He's still in jeans and despite how uncomfortable are but doesn't feel like he can sleep in his undies like he normally does. As soon as he's under the covers, she curls up close to him and digs her fingers into his hair.

"Goodnight Pavel, happy birthday."

"Goodnight," he whispers. "Sweet dreams."

Sweets dreams don't come to Vienna. She dreams of the boy on the ledge again and wakes up distressed. Their limbs are tangled together and Pavel mumbles in Russian as she sits up. He says something she doesn't understand and she asks him to repeat it.

"I don't want to go to class," he says, sticking his face firmly into the pillow. "Let's just stay here."

"We're going to class, Pavel," she laughs. "I might go back to my own room to shower but I'll see you later tonight?"

"Later tonight," he agrees sleepily, his words muffled by the pillow.

She ruffles his head before getting up. He finds himself sighing as soon as he stops. He smiles to himself, thinking about last night and how close they were to kissing. It would have happened had it not had been for the dog. It would have been perfect too. His birthday, under the stars, across from the Golden Gate Bridge. He sits there and thinks about it, his arm around his pillow. He imagines her there again and how easy it would have been.

For a few days, Pavel tries to talk himself into kissing her again. She seems tired from late nights of studying and he doesn't want to have it go badly and stress her more. She addresses their almost kiss again and tells him how she thought it was his tongue slobbering all over her cheek, not the dog's. He can't help but laugh at the thought, rolling his eyes and telling her that he's sure he's not that bad at kissing.

Mid semester exams creep up on them and Vienna spends less time in Pavel's room. He worries that she's trying to distance herself from him until she sees his worried looks as he's daydreaming and finally talk about it. Vienna tells him he needs to talk to her more and he takes in the feedback, realising that writing all his feelings down in a journal mightn't be as helpful as he thinks it is.

Vienna suggests another 'date night' to get away from all their study. Pavel thinks it's definitely a good idea after having not seen each other much for almost a fortnight now. She doesn't call it a date night but she wonders if she did that Pavel might finally get the hint to ask her out.

The walk into the city holding hands and both of them smile a little to themselves. They go back to the same first restaurant they went to and enjoy sitting so close to one another. Pavel stares outside and Vienna asks what he's staring at.

"It's raining," he says simply. He planned to go back to the bridge and try to kiss her again under the stars. He sighs to himself and wishes that he would have taken another opportunity earlier.

"Were you planning to take me back to the same place as last time and try again for a kiss?"

He looks at her, a little stunned at the honesty. "If I say yes, I'm going to sound very predictable. So no, I've something else planned."

She raises an eyebrow at him, knowing he probably has no idea where he wants to take her.

Pavel comes up with an idea and they walk through the city, Vienna trying not to be sceptical. The area has a vague familiarity and he smiles at her, stopping outside an ice cream shop. She recognises it, thinking back to their first trip into the city. They got ice cream after shopping and she still remembers just how much his cheeks were glowing.

Apologises in advance for what I'll put these two through in the later chapters whoops.
