Chapter 6 - Life, Death & Nightmares

Death is one of those things that occasionally crosses your mind, maybe late at night when you can't fall asleep, or just briefly in everyday situations. Like those weird thoughts you have, standing at a train station and thinking 'I could kill this person, right here right now, and end their entire being and hurt all the people close to them. But I won't...' Some people realise this power and ignore it, but some others use it. It occurred to me that night I found out about Chekov that even though I have the power to save his life and get him through all of this, and that one day he might become famous or something and live a long and prosperous life, but despite my best efforts, he will one day still die.

I ran up 45 flights of stairs, and it was getting the best of me. My lungs burned, gasping for some air. It was so cold, and the tears in my eyes started to sting. But I was there, at the top of the building, looking around for something, anything but nothing was in my view. I took on later gasps of air, and scanned the whole building. "CHEKOV!!" I screamed, falling to the floor. I started hyper ventilating and I started to fear for my own life. My breaths were getting shorter and faster. After a few painstakingly scary minutes, my breathing was normal again. I stood up and walked around the perimeter of the building. Then I saw him. Sitting against the other side of the staircase, a plain brick wall. The was a knife on the ground, covered in blood. He turned to me, with the same grey, sad eyes that I had seen that other night. I ran to him and fell into his arms, sobbing. "I thought you were going to jump!" I said through muffled tears. He held me tight, but only with one arm. I cried into his shoulder and held him. I couldn't describe how unbelievably glad I was that he was alive. "Chekov I thought you going to kill yourself, I thought you were going to die!" Chekov sighed, "I was, but something stopped me."

"I regarded the world as such a sad sight
Until I viewed it in black and white
And I reviewed every frame in basic shape
And sealed the exits with caution tape"

"Chekov, those things you wrote, did you mean them?" My eyes met his , and he sighed. "Everything I wrote was true and zhat's how I feel yes..." He admitted shyly. "What you wrote, was the kindest and most beautiful thing anyone has every said to me," I said, not breaking his gaze. He smiled. "Pavel I feel the same way about you, even before all that stuff was read about you. He smiled again, "You're the first person here who's called me Pavel... Thank you..." We re-adjusted ourselves a bit, so that he hand his arm around me, and I was leaning on his body. "Vienna?" He asked. I mumbled a kind of 'mhmm' and turned to him. "Ah, would you uh, be my girlfriend?" He stuttered. I smiled and nodded happily. He pulled me in tighter, "You saved my life Vienna, I didn't jump because of you..." I smiled. "You really are my angel..."

My eyes fluttered open, and I was lying on the cold concrete roof. I groaned, my head was throbbing. I looked up, and he stood there at the edge of the building. I scrambled to get up, and slowly walked over to him. "Pavel?" There was silence. He didn't move, like he was frozen. I said his name again softly. He fell.

"When violet eyes get brighter
And heavy wings grow lighter
I'll taste the sky and feel alive again
And I'll forget the world that I knew
But I swear I won't forget you
Oh if my voice could reach back to the past, I'd whisper in your ear
Oh darling I wish you were here"

I screamed and sat upright. "What the hell?!" I said looking around. Pavel was asleep with his arm around me. I sighed deeply in relief. It was just a dream, and Pavel was alive and fine. I kissed his cheek and he stirred, but stayed asleep. He was adorable when he slept. I brushed the curly locks out of his eyes and smiled. I shook him awake gently, it was late afternoon, and it was starting to get dark. "Pavel," I cooed softly. He smiled and opened his eyes. "Hey you," I giggled. He smiled and sat up, stretching his arms. "We really need to stop falling asleep together..." I muttered. He grinned and laughed a bit.

I stood up and hugged him. I picked the bloodied knife up off the ground and put it in my bag. "You won't need that again will you?" I asked, with a raised eyebrow. "No I won't..." He muttered slightly embarrassed. "Come back to my place and fall asleep there instead," I giggled. "Okay," he smiled, holding my hand. On the way there, Damien's group was watching us, laughing hysterically. We just ignored them and swung outer entwined fingers back and forth. They stopped laughing. Pavel pulled me over towards them, "what are you doing?!" I hissed. "You'll see," he said smirking. "Damien, I just wanted to thank you! Vienna and I are dating now thanks to you." He smiled at them and walked off with me. "Did you see the look on his face?" I grinned.

We got back to my room, and I pulled the medical kit out of the bathroom. Pavel showed me his wrist, and I started to clean the wounds. Other than the ones he'd inflicted today, all the other scars had faded and he was pretty clean. "I'm so proud of you, when these fade, you'll be completely healed." I smiled, looking up at him. When I'd finished bandaging his arm, I stood up and put some of the stuff away. He pulled his sleeve back down and stood up. "Vienna?" He asked, walking towards me. He wrapped his arms around me in a close embrace. He looked down at me and I looked up at him. "You saved my life..." He mumbled. He stopped for a moment and leaned down. Our lips met, and the whole world stopped. It was a beautiful moment and it lasted for just the right amount of time.

I'd woken up on my couch again that morning, with Pavel hugging me tightly. I smiled and moved some hair from his eyes. He was such a cute sleeper. I got up, careful not to wake him, and got a drink in my kitchen. I was walking towards the bathroom, when I noticed a note stuck on my door. I checked to see of Pavel was still asleep, and walked over to the note.

"It's not over yet..."
