Chapter Thirty-Six

Start from the beginning

The alien was nearly about to pull his mask off his head when an alien tried to shoot him, but he managed to flip over the alien, causing it to get shot. The beeping continued to speed up and Steve quickly pulled me along and we both hid behind his shield, just as an explosion knocked us out of the window, causing us to fall into a car below.

"Are you alright?" He weakly asked me.

I weakly nodded and tried to get up, as I felt some pain in my stomach. I tried to hide it, but Steve noticed it. "You're hurt, aren't you?" He asked. I quickly shook my head, but his stare told me he knew I was lying.

"Yes," I said quietly. He helped me up and we looked at my stomach to see a huge blood stain on it.

"This looks bad, Dani," he pointed out. I shook my head.

"No, it's not. I can...I can handle it," I assured him as I tried to walk off. I felt the pain grow and I held my stomach in pain. Steve wrapped his arm around me to help me walk correctly. I couldn't help but smile through the pain. "You're always here to help, aren't ya?"

"I am, which is why I need you to stay out of the fight." He told me. I looked at him, eyes wide with shock.

"I can't stay out of the fight. I need to-"

"No, Danielle," his voice was stern, demanding. "You're already hurt and I don't want anything worse to happen to you." He said as he brought his thumb to my cheek and gently caressed my cheek. "Can you do this for me, please?" His eyes were soft and his voice gave away how worried he was for me.

"Okay," my voice cracked, "I'll stay out of it. But you better come back to me in one piece," I told him as he made his way towards a car and helped me onto it. "Promise me that". I told him.

"I promise," he softly said. I pulled him towards me and our lips met. Though the kiss was short, it was passionate.

"Go save the world, Captain." I said with a small smile. He then ran away to join the fight once more. I watched as medics and the army helped people exit out of bank. I couldn't help but worry about everyone else. As I sat in silence, I heard Romanoff's voice over my earpiece.

"I can shut the portal down," she said.

"Do it!" I heard Steve's voice, and I sighed in relief. He was still alright after leaving me, to fight the aliens.

"No, wait." I heard Tony's voice through the earpiece.

"Stark, these things are still coming." Steve told him.

"I got a nuke coming in. It's gonna blow in less than a minute. And I know just where to put it." Tony said. My eyes widen slightly and I brought my hand to my earpiece.

"Tony, you know that's a one-way trip." I told him. He didn't reply back and I sighed deeply. If he goes through with this, he could die. I watched as I saw him fly up towards the portal with a nuke in his hands. "Tony, don't do this!" I yelled into the earpiece. I watched as he entered the portal and a few moments later, there was an explosion and my heart immediately sunk. "Tony!" I didn't get a response from him.

"Close it," Steve told Romanoff. As I watched the portal close, I saw something falling from the sky. I caught my breath when I realized it was Tony. I watched as the Hulk caught Tony and brought him to the ground. I got off the car and rushed to their location, not paying any mind to the pain I was feeling in my stomach.

I found Thor, Steve, Hulk, and an unconscious Tony on the bridge of where we first started. When Steve saw me approaching, he rushed to my side and helped me towards Tony. Thor had take off his face mask and I looked at his motionless body. "Wake up, Tony. Wake up, damn it." I said to myself as he continued to lay there, motionless.

Suddenly, Hulk roared and Tony gasped as he woke up. I deeply sighed in relief and rested my head against Steve's chest as I looked at Tony. "What the hell? What just happened? Please tell me nobody kissed me." He said. I chuckled lightly.

"We won," Steve said through heaving breaths.

"Alright, yay! Hurray, good job guys! Let's not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it." Tony said. I chuckled lightly.

"We're not finished yet." Thor said as he directed his attention to Stark tower.

"And then shawarma after." Tony said. Steve and I helped him up and we made our way to Stark tower. I noticed he had a stomach wound, same as mine but not as bloody. He noticed me staring and sheepishly smiled.

"I'm still in one piece," he reminded me of the promise. I smiled and gave him a quick peck on the lips. We made our way up the Stark tower and captured Loki. By this time, my stomach was in so much pain, I just wanted to rest for a while. But we won the war, again. And that's all that matters.
