My Sun

*Hades*

I grasped her tiny figure within my embrace, inhaling deeply the luscious yet subtle scent of her hair. The slight aroma of the sweetest flowers she brings to blossom during the spring. Oh, it is absolutely hypnotizing.

"I have to apologize, sweetness."

She stays quiet, simply snuggling tighter into my chest. Not much for acknowledgement, but I can't rush her forgiveness, I suppose.

I gaze downwards to the top of her beautiful head. How I feel for the girl. So lost; a wandering soul stuck between the life of her mother and the life of her own with or without me.

"Come, on. Let's get you home to your mother. She's going to rip me limb from limb if you aren't back by high noon." I calmly pull away from her shaking body and hold her away from myself by her shoulders. "Are you alright?"

Suddenly her chin quivers, and she allows a small tear to drop down her cheek. "I'm just perfect, Hades. Just take me home, and then we will be reunited in a few months as planned." She peers up at me with a hint of hope in her eyes. "Won't we?"

"Of course." I nod to her. The small glint of sadness in her left me helplessly speechless, but there was nothing more I could say. I gently take her hand in mine as we embark on the walk home. A slow, slow walk, just so we could relish in every moment in the presence of each other before our inevitable separation once again.

"I have missed you, Hades." She admitted to me as we approached the meadow that surrounded her home. Her raging mother hadn't yet emerged from the cottage, foaming at the mouth, so that was a good sign I am thankful for.

"You think of me?" I smirk down at her playfully.

She pauses in her walk, looking down bashfully. "I don't want to admit anything dramatically romantic yet, but I can say that I do think of you now and again." She gives an adorable small smirk herself to which I can't contain my amusement.

I wink down at her as we continue on. Once we stood in front of Persephone's unfortunate prison, I hold tightly to both of her hands before we part. Her gentle touch is much too addicting. I don't believe I could walk away now. Not unless Demeter chased me away with the spite of a beast and the strength of Hercules -not that she does not have the capability to do so.

"I will keep on thinking of you, my sunflower." I can't help but tease her with her mother's nickname for her. Persephone groans, rolling her eyes. "I much prefer whatever you wish to call me. To her I can be a sunflower but to you-"

"You are my sun." A broad smile plasters itself on my face. Reaching down, I firmly plant a kiss on her hand. "I cannot wait to see you back, seated on the throne you deserve, my little Queen."

"Perhaps that is not what I look forward to the most." Persephone lightly giggles. "I could care less about a throne when I could be a true Queen between the sheets. Isn't that right?"

So her boldness had not disappeared above ground. I laugh, trying to contain it so that her mother does not hear. Perhaps she is not home at all, and is scrounging the entire universe for her rebellious daughter.

"Don't go and run away again. I'm the first they come to - to accuse me of another kidnapping, of course. And if such a thing happens again, I'll have to come and save your little behind once again. You're quite a disturbance." I tease her, pinching her cheek softly.

She scoffs loudly, but can't hold back her grin. "What if I refuse? And just...keep on doing it?"

"Oh, how disobedient." I widen my eyes in fake surprise. "I wouldn't expect you to run away again.  Not at all. That would be much too scandalous for such a strictly obedient girl." I smirk, obviously sarcastic.

"What if such a girl takes a break from being obedient and chooses to run away only on certain occasions? Certain occasions so that she may properly take on her role as the Lord of the Underworld's wife, only to run home later when the sun comes up, of course, and proceed to simply be Demeter's daughter." She purses her lips before biting them lightly in mockery of my need to see her again. She knows how much I need to.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spot Demeter's irritated face peek around the curtain of her kitchen. Persephone's swerves to look for only a second. "I'll leave at midnight to embark on a little night swimming."

I nod quickly, turning to leave before Demeter interrupts. Persephone, bold once again, tugs me down by my neck for a brief, but an intense kiss on her lips. Demeter's cry of anger could be heard for at least a mile, and I cannot help but laugh when I pull away. Without a moment's hesitation, I disappear back to where I came.

Oh, how that girl deserves a life of her own. Even if it would mean she doesn't choose that life with me. At this point, all that matters is that it is the path she has chosen. Not what I want, not what that tragedy of a mother wants.

*Persephone*

"Persephone! How dare you be so forward with such a terrible man. Right before your poor mother's eyes no less!" Demeter cried out in anguish as I bolted pass her to the kitchen. "Where in Zeus's name have you been girl? You're lucky I didn't actually call upon your father and only requested Hermes to demand you back from Hades. How could you leave like that?"

I smile to myself as I finally prep myself that tea I would have had last night. I cannot help but think to how he last looked at me. We may have parted quickly once mother noticed, but I still couldn't deny the admiration he showed when he looked at me. I couldn't nearly have been happier, even if he had looked at me with lust. Lust is not the same as admiration. Admiration proves my worth, my strength. Both traits I would love to have in his eyes.

"Did he take you by force? It isn't too late to change your mind about going back." Demeter growls impatiently at my silence.

"No, mother. I simply went for a nightly walk and lost track of time. I fell asleep at the foot of a tree and dreamed of better days." I seat myself down at the kitchen table with my teacup.

Demeter scowls. "Better days? What could you possibly mean?"

I sip slowly. What did I mean? Well, only time will tell for sure, but for now, I am nearly certain on my answer. "I am looking forward to the better days, mother. Better days when people won't doubt the love they see right before their eyes." I look to her bravely, not holding back. "Days where me and Hades would be celebrated as King and Queen, and our love would never be denied by old-fashioned, stubborn mothers."

Demeter's jaw drops in shock. "How dare you!"

I stand instead of encouraging this petty fight. "I'll be having my tea in my room. Unless there's work to do?" I politely ask. She attempts to stutter out a protest, but fails to come up with a valid reason for me to remain in her presence.

That's what I thought. Now, to prepare myself for a night of bliss. A reunion of myself and the God I may have fallen in love with. Drastically, traumatically and explicitly in love.
