Pulling Heart Strings

Chapter 1

Rose

I was in my room chatting with my friend though Skype. We were currently discussing about the last episode of the vampire diaries we watched. I still can't believe that so many people died. But that's not the important thing right now is it

Let me first introduce my best friend before I introduce myself. We met each other around 6 years ago and we became inseparable. It's just that she knew how I was and she always knew what I was thinking. She knew me better than I did. The same case the other way around. So we literally knew each other in and out. Her name is Jocelyn or as I like to call her Lyn.

Suddenly I heard my mom calling out for me and knocking on the door. Knocking out of my thought I sat up. ,, Yes mom. On my way.'' I yelled back. I told Jocelyn that we'll taln later and hung up. When I opened up I was greeted my rather sad looking mother.

My mother seemed kinda happy too. What's up with her emotions? I asked:,, Mom what's going on?'' She smiled at me and sighed. She took a deep breath and said:,, We finally found an apartment for you. It's also not that far from your college but it's in new york.'' I smiled because I could finally move out. On the other hand I stopped smiling feeling bad for my sad mother.

It's not that I don't like living with my parents. It's just that I'm 22 and it's time for me to stand on my own and I don't wanna bother my parents anymore. I wanna become a responsible woman. I'll have to be a woman. But still I'm gonna miss them so much.

When I move out they'll have one responsibility minus. That would also take some weight of their shoulders. Now it's more important for them to concentrate on my sister's education. She's still in high school but still.

I snapped back to reality because my mom yelled my name. Why do I keep zoning out all the time?

,,Sorry mom I was just lost in my thoughts. But yeah that's great. Although I'm gonna miss you guys to death I think it's time for me to build up my own life you know!'' I stated. It's better to tell how I feel rather than lying.

My mom laughed. ,, Of course dear. I know it's time for you to be on your own. And I think I'm also ready to let you fly.''She said making me laugh. My mom likes to over exaggerate sometimes. But which mother doesn't?

,,That's really sweet mom. I'm glad you think so. And I promise to call you as much as possible.'' I replied. She laughed again. It was so nice to see her laugh. I'm gonna miss her a lot.

Her smile faded and a het face became rather straight. ,,But little one I'm not going to let you live alone in an apartment. I got you a roommate. A girl named Mae Johnson. She is a kind one and also the daughter of one of my colleagues. But another good thing is that she goes to the same college as you.''

I didn't even process that I had a roommate and here she was ranting. But I'm cool with it. I wasn't really fond of the idea to live alone. Perhaps this girl might be fun to be with.

,,That's great mom. Thank you for organising everything.'' I said as a  tear ran down her cheek. She smiled and whipped it away. She caressed my cheek and pulled me into a tight hug. Ugh why is she making this harder than it was? Damn mom.

Later I went over to my Lyn's house. She welcomed me with a warm hug like she usually did. She and her family were always so welcoming. I love them.

We went in to her room and I started filling her with the information about me moving into my own apartment and stuff. She seemed more excited than I was.

,,Rose I'm so happy for you. It means you can go out whenever you want. And have you met this Mae girl before?'' She asked and I just shook my head.

,,No but mom said that she's a kind one. Also if she's not the best to be with I kinda have to make things work with her. Cause we're going to live with each other for a whole while and she's also going to the same college.'' I said. I was kinda scared to meet that girl. I hope moms choice is good. But I trust on that.  I just don't need any stuck up bitch.

Lyn just nodded and she tried to reassure me.,, Rose it's gonna be ok. Trust me when I say she can't be that bad. If she is that low then I'll beat up her ass. I won't let my best friend down. You can trust me on that.''

I laughed at her and quietly said ,, Thank you!'' She smiled back pulled me into a hug. I just love this girl. And the trust I have on her is huge. I would trust my whole life to her.

After some time I went back home. My mom told me that I'll be moving in the new apartment in a week. So we just started to prepare a few things. Mom also gave me my roommate Maes number so we can get to know each other.

A few days later...

Mae and I had a few phone calls in the last couple of days. Today we decided to meet up for coffee. We haven't seen each other before.

I decided to put on some comfortable clothes because I wasn't in the mood to change later. Today evening we're brining the last couple of furniture into the house. I'm kind of excited. In two days we'll be moving in.

My mom asked me to spend tomorrow at home with my family. We won't have much family time in the future so we decided to have a nice day.

A couple of hours later...

I was on my way to a cafe. I was going to meet my new roommate Mae. I wasn't on time because I missed my bus. I ran towards the cafe and saw Mae standing in front of it. She just looked like on the pictures she had sent me.

I have only seen her on photos but I was able to recognise her for my luck. We greeted each other with a friendly hug and introduced ourselves. Then we went in and orders ourselves something to drink. I ordered myself a hot chocolate. I'm not a big fan of caffeine.

Mae and I sat down and started talking. ,,So rose tell me something about yourself.'' She said. ,, So I'm Rose 22. I have a best friend called Jocelyn. I'm a caffeine hater. In my free time I mostly go out or read something ya.''

,,So what about you?'' I asked. ,, Ok I'm 23. I'm into sports. I love tennis it's my favorite. I'm also a party girl. I love party's. And ya I just recently broke with my boyfriend cause he cheated on me and yeah!''

We continued talking for few hours. It was really fun talking to her. I think it's gonna be cool living with her. We spent some time together. She also came over before we transferred some furnitures to our apartment. It was a really nice day.
