Chapter 28

Me and Jake both agreed that that one was amazing and it was only £10,000. It was nice but the one disappointment for Jake was that it was the farthest away out of all of the flats.

“Ye but do you not think you should ring and book for a viewing... this could be your dream flat Jake” I said to him whilst holding his phone in my hand.

“Fine” he said smiling. He took the phone out of my hand and inputted the number off of the website into his phone and held it to his ear. “Hello... I’m just ringing about the apartment on the border of Haywood... ye that one... I was wondering if I could view it... ye... Next Saturday at 1:00” He said looking at me. I nodded to try and tell him that I would be free then if he wants me to go with him. “Next Saturday’s fine... yep... ok... Jake Peterson... Yep... ye... Ok I’ll see you next Saturday then... thank you... bye” Jake said. He pressed end call and looked at me. “Looks like we’re viewing a flat next week” He said. I couldn’t help but smile when he said ‘we’. I know nothing could ever happen between me and Jake and that we were just really close friends... But there was that thing in the back of my mind telling me to consider going for it.  

We carried on looking at the rest and managed to get a slot to view the other 5 flats.

“So what are you having for dinner?” I asked as we both stood up and walked into the living room. We both sat down on the couch and turned to face each other. He shrugged.

“I don’t know yet... supposedly Scott wants to see me about something but I’m not sure what it is... so I’ll just get dinner there I guess.” I nodded. Jake stayed for about another hour before the front door opened. We both stood up to go and check who it was.

“Hey guys” My mum said when she turned around.

“Hi Cally” Jake said.

“Hey mum”

“How was London Jake?” My mum asked as she walked down the hallway and into the kitchen.

“It was really good” He said whilst looking at me. We both smiled as we remembered our night on the London eye. “Anyway... I gotta go... I’ll cya soon” He said as he walked towards the front door.

“Ok see you soon” My mum shouted before he closed the front door behind him. I walked into the kitchen to see my mum starting to make us our tea. “So how was London?” She asked turning around to look at me whilst I walked over to the island to sit down.

“It was really good” I said smiling at her.

“Oh ye” She said raising her eyebrows and expecting me to tell her something.

“Ye we won the maths challenge”

“So I’ve been told and you was the one that won it right”

“I wouldn’t entirely say it was all me”

“Your too modest” She said turning back around to carry on cooking.

My phone started to ring and I saw Becki’s name pop up on caller ID. I picked it up and walked into the living room whilst answering it.

“Hey”

“Hey” She said on the other line “Did you remember to thank Jake for giving me a ride back from London?”

“Ye I did don’t worry” I told her. I sat down on the couch.

“So... you never told me what you got up to last night Mrs.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about” I said trying to pretend like nothing had happened.

“Oh ye... there’s been a smile stuck on your face since last night”

“Fine...” I said giving in. “he took me to the London eye and it was amazing”

“Did you kiss?” Becki asked desperately.

“NO” I shouted. “He just gave... me... a necklace” I said whilst mumbling the last line.

“A necklace?... why didn’t I see this” She asked.

“Because I didn’t think” I said to her. I heard her sigh on the other end of the phone.

“Thanks for leaving me out with this information”

“Sorry” I said.

“BECKI” I heard someone shout in the background.

“I’ve got to go my mum’s screaming” She said. “I’ll see you at school tomorrow...bye”

“Bye” I said before she ended the call.

I walked back into the kitchen and saw that my mum had already set our dinner out on the island. I walked over and sat opposite her before I started to eat the tomato pasta that she had made.

“So was you going to tell me about the London eye?” I looked up at her quickly. She’d heard. I gulped down the food that was in my mouth.

“Well it was nothing special just Jake took me to the London eye as a kind of congratulations present and gave me a necklace as well.”

“That was nice of him” She said as she put the food in her mouth. I shrugged and ignored her reaction as I was too tired to build the argument that nothing was going on between us as people now liked to assume. When I finished my dinner I stood up and took it to the sink. I walked into the hallway and upstairs so then I could get my mum her present that I bought her. I took the ornament out of my suitcase and carried it back downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and saw my mum had her back to me.

“Mum I got you something when I was London” I said walking closer to her whilst she turned around in her seat. I held the brown paper bag up in her direction. Her eyebrows rose when she took the bag out of my hand. She pulled the ornament out of the bag and looked at it with a surprised expression on her face.

“Whoa... Hayden this is beautiful” She whispered. I looked down at the floor as I wasn’t really used to having moments like this with people.

She stood up and hugged me. I hugged her back and we stood like that for a while until I decided that I wanted to go upstairs and shower so then I could go to bed. I pulled away and smiled at my mum.

“I’m going to go to bed” I told her. She nodded whilst turning around and looking at the ornament that she had placed on the island. I turned around and walked out. I walked upstairs and into my bedroom. I grabbed some pyjamas out of my drawer and walked into the bathroom.

After about 10 minutes I came out of the bathroom clean and fully dressed for bed. I walked over to my bed and climbed in. I reached over and turned the lamp off that was on my bedside table. As I snuggled further into my bed I heard my phone vibrate on the table at the side of me. I turned over and grabbed my phone to see that I had a new message of Jake.

I smiled at his text before quickly replying with the same message. I put my phone back down on to my table and snuggled back in bed with a smile on my face. It felt so nice to be back in my own bed.
