Chapter Four.

"See you miss the old place, Donnie" Sam showed me with his arms extended and I almost felt like he was going to do a twirl there and then but Jesus Christ he was right I had missed the place. The main courts were inside, benches forming the whole of the outside and above were windows on the left side which was the corridor which all students used to get to lessons like English and maths, making me remember back to when faces would be up against though windows, watching me play as they stalled themselves from heading to their classes. To go along with that were the same faded white lines on the floor covered in scruff marks and the hoops at either end that I must of scored in hundreds of times, it all now looked like heaven to me.
"Yeah perhaps" I shrugged casually, I was able to mask my feelings more around Sam but he sometimes still noticed then again he didn't push it with me, it was like an unspoken bond we shared on the subject. As I continued to scanned around the place, my eyes caught Clayton's who was now practising with Joss, a kid year below us. He had dark blonde hair that was in a ponytail now, he also was huge in built that every basket baller shared and it made me feel like a idiot next to them. He was a towering 6ft3 as well, perfect height for the game.                               Sam took a swig from his green bottle, his hair plastered to his forehead with sweat as he now also watched Joss play and it made me think what I may look like because I was probably double in the sweat department because I was unfit compared to the giants in here, though I had an excuse.                                                                                                                                                                  "Alright lets kick off thing with a proper match now that we are all warmed up. Let's see if twinkle toes has still got it" Clayton spat, again literally, I think he really need to go and see a doctor or something about his saliva issues because it was just plain gross. And I knew 'twinkle toes' referred to me as well which was slightly annoying but I rolled my shoulders.                         "Ooh I think Clayton's still hung up that you fucked his bird, Donnie" Sam laughed as he continued to look towards Joss. Yeah, Sam really didn't help the situation when it came to this or my nerves.                                                                                                                                                                  "Not my fault I'm better looking than him" I muttered poisonously, he needed to get over it already as well sort out his hair cut afterwards because that was probably one of the reasons he didn't get girls, it looked like a wet old mop placed on his head.I mean he was being such a baby over all of this,it was Charlotte for god sake, she'd go for anything new and breathed.                        On the other hand, I positioned myself at the back while Clayton slowly took the centre position not before he was able to gave me one last icy grin, showing off his captain uniform, the one I use to wear. I swear I'd punch his face if he wasn't careful but before I could the game started. Clayton caught it, no shit, and then passed it to Sam who then dribbled down the court and before I could even finish blinking he had scored. Damn, Sam had improved since the last I saw him play; the way he dashed around the court and the way he shot, expressed confidence from miles away. As the game continued on I'd only had the ball couple time, I knew I was rusty but this was just plain embarrassing, I was being thrashed by Clayton of all losers.                                  "Alright time, break for five" Clayton breathed. The almost white hair clung to his neck like a scarf, his hair looked like a skunks tail but no amount of insults to him would make me feel better about myself.                                                                                                                                                "Although some looked like they was taking a break through the whole of that" He grunted brushing pass me with a heavy amount of force I causing my hand to tremble into a fist and I went to turn around back to him but Sam grabbed my shoulders, pulling me back.                 "Dude chill. He's only messing" He spoke smiling nervously, annoyed I shook his hands off my shoulders and controlled my breathing once more as I walked over and picked up my bottle.          It was by that time I had noticed Charlotte had come into the court with her minions steps behind her. She was fashioning the uniform as if it was 'show as much skin as you can' day.Her hair in golden waves around her made-up face.                                                                                               "Hey handsome" A voice came from behind me and I certainly didn't need to look to know who it was but still I turned around and fashioned my best fake smile for her, if not just to wind Clayton.                                                                                                                                                                   "Whatsup Charlotte" I replied causally, watching her arms push her chest up as she crossed the, classic Charlotte.                                                                                                                                                                  "I thought basketball wasn't your thing anymore, you wouldn't be starting to lie to me would you now?" She giggled flirty, her neon pink nail claws, tapping against her arm now.                    "Sam offered a match and I accepted, that's all. Though Clayton doesn't seem to happy about it"                                                                                                                                                                                           "Ugh. That boy can't let go" She fake sighed, flicking her hair over her shoulder to which I just nodded in politeness back, in hopes that would be the end to the conversation.                            "It's weird that you were never like that and I mean my bed been getting cold lately" Yeah, I was wrong about the chat ending but wow, I wondered when she'd pull something like that. Though hats off to her, I think it was a new record for her.                                                                                              "Maybe you should get a bed warmer or wear clothes in bed for once, perhaps?" I replied shortly. Turning back round but not before seeing her confused face, I had to contain my laughter.                                                                                                                                                                              "You know I don't take rejection lightly Donnie. I will get what I want" She spoke firmly into my back. I put the bottle down and faced her again.                                                                                            "I'm sure you will Charlotte" I smiled sarcastically, brushing passed her. Giving chance for Sam jogged up to me and he didn't look happy.                                                                                                      "What did little miss slag princess want?" Well, he had certainly changed his tune about her. "What she always wants" I rolled my eyes before continuing, "And since when did you turn on her?"                                                                                                                                                                                    "Since she didn't make me fucking captain" He smirked, looking passed me as his smirk grew. "Oi oi look it's your girlfriend" He spoke as his huge arm pointed to the window behind me. I twisted round to the windows to see a group was walking passed. It was Ashby's group.            She glanced through the window quickly and her eyes automatically caught mine, I gave a small smile which she returned before turning back to face that Luke kid. He peered through the window as well before pulling Ashby into an arm lock and stood there, waiting.                             "She's not my girlfriend" I shot back after a delayed moment.                                                                  "Well looks like she's staying. Need to impress her if you want any chance of filling your bed" He explained, making me groaned. I really hated Sam's was very forward minded recently but yeah he was partly right, I couldn't be made a fool of now, not with her watching.                              "Come on breaks up" Clayton yelled. Automatically making me get back into my position and I felt my nerves kick in, I couldn't mess this up.                                                                                                   The game was starting again and Joss chucked me the ball, I started heading towards the hoop, narrowly avoiding most of the other dudes on Clayton's before throw it to another kid called Marcus but Clayton got instead, he smirked proudly at me and I felt my chest rumble with anger.  There were other chances, I told myself and I was correct I got the ball back later on, this time I wasn't going to lose. Everything was coming back to me slowly and I found myself near the hoop. Only thing left was to shoot, it all happened in a mad blur and the only thing I remembered was hanging off the hoop, fuck I actually done it, I had scored.                                            Dropping back down to my feet, I was greeted with a whole load of congratulation slaps to the back. My heart felt light as my huge smiled plant into the floor, I had missed that rush that feelings of the unknown like it was all or nothing.                                                                                              Finally, calming down I looked up to find Clayton was on the other side of court, sulking no doubt but I was too happy to give a shit about him, I had proved my point to him as well as myself, I still fucking had it.                                                                                                                                               I flickered my eyes back towards the window only to find she was gone...had she missed me score? Fuck I hope not.                                                                                                                                          Sighing, I edged closer to the window just to see if she was really gone, she was, well that sucked. Why of all the times did she not having to be in my range? I mean I always randomly bumped into her throughout the day could she not just have staye--suddenly, a ball smacked off the back on my head with a hell of a lot of force. Holding the back of my head I turned round ,all the guys were at the side of the court standing stunned at Clayton who clearly had thrown the ball.                                                                                                                                                                                     Furious I move my gaze to his as he shrugged just it off, I felt on fire like standing in a bonfire. My anger was coursing through my veins like a disease taking over my body an instant, my muscles twitch as I forced myself to stay under control. Sam edge forward as if he could sense my anger, Clayton must've had a death wish, he knew how I could be and what I could do to him.                      "What the hell is your deal?!" I yelled, starting to stomp my way up to him, my hands balled into fists.                                                                                                                                                                                     "Maybe it will knock some sense into you" He laughed in a sinister manner, I noticed Charlotte and her minions had edge closer too, Charlotte's smile reaching her ears but I was too mad to bother what she was thinking.                                                                                                                                        "What did you just say?!" I growl again. Stop it, stop it, I mentally forced on to Clayton because my self- resistance was slipping and fast.                                                                                                                    "Aw look he's so dumb he can't even process what I just said" He continued laughing towards the other guys in the court who still looked in pure shock from what was happening right now.     The last of my control was gone, I snapped lurching myself at him, my hand making a hard contact with his jaw causing he to stumbled backwards shocked before going for me. His punch landed on my eye; if pain course through my body,I couldn't feel it as I went for him again. "Donnie stop!" I heard Sam yell faintly in the background. He also knew when I lost it, I really lost it, he had learnt the hard way just like Clayton was learning now.                                           Ignoring him going for Clayton again and again not stopping until someone wrapped there arms under mine and forced me back. Sam.                                                                                                              "Donnie, dude you'll kill him, stop. You've proved your point" He spoke through gritted teeth. "Get the fuck off me, Sam" I panted, breaking myself out of his grip, he held his hands up in surrender sign as I looked back at Clayton, who was being held back weakly by Joss and man he looked bad; bruising had already formed his jaw which he had now started holding in his hand and his lip was split in three places, swelling up, his shirt was ripped and his hair stood on end like a car seeing car light in front.                                                                                                                                  All I could do was huffed and turned back around: "Screw this, I told you I ain't doing this shit game again" I ended as I left the court but not before I kicked the basketball across the other side.                                                                                                                                                                                             I headed for the locker room. Slamming the door behind me; adrenaline was causing me to shake madly, I rushed over to the sink and turned cold tap on washing my hands and reducing the heat I was exploding with. I took deep breaths, glancing up at the mirror I saw my left eye was turning purply-black but besides that I looked alright accept for the ton of sweat that matted my hair down. I probably need to shave too, I was starting to get a shadow myself but all I really wanted now was a long hot shower and sleep this shit day off.                                                    "Haven't seen that Donnie Caraway in a while" A voice spoke behind me, I pinched the bridge of my nose before turning round to face Charlotte; her hands were behind her back and she was edging closer to me, her eyes glowing and hair now brushed behind her shoulders.                             "Get lost Charlotte. I'm not in the mood, your not even meant to be in here"                                       "Don't need to get so grumpy with me Mr. I'm on your side, I'm always on your side" She smiled and it wasn't a Ashby smile but it was okay with what I needed right now, I breathed hard.            "And under and above people, I imagine"                                                                                                           "Well, it made me realise what I really want. You" She spoke proudly as if hearing that would make me want to jump her. It really didn't affect me actually, although I felt like I was in a chick flick or something.                                                                                                                                                              On the physical side, I couldn't seem to stop shaking, my anger just wouldn't go anywhere, how long had I been holding this rage and not even realising I had it? Years probably.                             "You like what you can't have" I told her barely able to speak through my pants. She tilted her head to the side, lips pursed in confusion again before she step closer, hands still behind her back like some sort of headmistress about to teach me a lesson. She leaned into me, my hands immediately gripped against the basin.                                                                                                          "What I can't have?" She smirked, while I was gripping the basin tighter, she pushed up on her toes; her cold hands now cupped my face bring me down to hers. "I always get what I want, remember?" But before I had a chance to answer her lips were on mine, I wasn't even going to bother trying to resisted, I was too tired and fed up, she could have her way for now.                          My body felt nothing towards her but it had stop shaking and it only confirmed my thoughts I was utterly bored with her and this kiss.                                                                                                            Yeah, she had techniques but it did nothing for me, this was such an empty kiss and I was sick of them. That's when Ashby entered my head, how it would feel kissing her? Holding her? Probably a hell of a lot better than this but if this kissed carried on I would never know what it would feel like.                                                                                                                                                                            Meanwhile, Charlotte would wrap me around her little finger again and I was so wasn't going to put up with that so with my decision in mind, I pulled back: "As if I'd go for someone as easy as you, Charlotte. You can't and won't ever have me unless I say so" I told her before strolling towards the shower room, alone now.                                                                                                                         Hopefully leaving a very speechless and mostly likely pissed off bitch in the locker room.
