Chapter Twenty-Four

Start from the beginning

"What about March break?" I asked him quietly. His frown grew larger. "I'm sorry Sky, but we won't be able to do that anymore. It would be easier if we just went to having a normal relationship like I do with the other students. It's going to be tough at first, but the only difference would be you only calling me Mr. Phillips, us not hanging out outside of school, and no... intimate stuff." I sighed sadly and nodded at him. "How did he find out?" I asked Dan. "He saw us together before. Remember the other night when we went to the park with Jack?" he asked me. I nodded at the memory. "Well, the noise we heard was him taking a late-night stroll. He saw us kissing and everything. I'm just glad he realized that I'm not using you or vice versa," Dan said seriously. So that was why I had a weird feeling that night.

"Did you talk to my mom yet?" I asked him. Dan nodded, which was a relief to me. I didn't feel like explaining our temporary unwanted breakup to her. It would just make it set in more than it already has. "I just want you to remember one thing, Sky. I love you and I will always love you. Only you so don't forget that. I'm doing this so we can be together peacefully in a few months," Dan said before he kissed my forehead. "I love you too, Dan," I told him before he nodded and left.

After wallowing in self-pity for a few hours, I decided on watching a bit of television. I decided on cartoons since they would probably cheer me up a bit. One of the nurses came into my room when I was watching a re-run of "What's new Scooby Doo."

"You have a visitor," she said with a smile. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Everyone left for the day. Who would visit me now? "Sky!" a very familiar voice exclaimed before I saw Garrett's face emerge from the door. "Hey, I didn't expect you to visit," I said honestly. He gave me a crooked smile and sat down on the chair next to my bed. "I asked Avery what happened. I was so confused with what went down. All I knew is that it was the ambulance was taking you away. I'm so sorry Sky! I swear I didn't know what was going on. If I did I would've stopped him," he said quickly with sad eyes. I smiled at him before he held my hands.

"It's ok, Garrett. I already know that. You were just as surprised as I was when Trevor said that we were dating." Garrett scowled. "I don't even want to hear that douche bags name anymore. I can't believe he did what he did. What's going on with the legal stuff anyways?" I carefully ran a hand through my hair and sighed.

"I really don't know. My mom is trying to press charges on him for rape, for physical abuse, stalking and some other stuff, but it may be a bit tricky since Mr. Phillips only saw him about to rape me, which he thankfully didn't get to... you know... actually touching me anywhere like that. Trevor and I are the only actual witnesses of everything that happened," I explained. "I'll be there rooting for you. Trevor deserves serious jail time," Garrett said seriously. "Thanks Garrett, that means a lot to me," I said before I pulled him into a hug. He hugged me back tightly before pulling away and plastering a huge smirk onto his face.

"Scooby-Doo? Really, Sky?" he asked. I glared at him before flicking him in the forehead. "No one disses Scooby! He's the best thing in the world!" I exclaimed seriously. "Alright, don't get your panties in a bunch. Scooby is awesome, I know," he laughed. Until visiting hours were over Garrett entertained me. Avery had gone to school after lunch earlier in the day to catch up on everything she had missed, which is why she ended up not coming back to the hospital. An hour before visiting hours were over my mom visited me and brought Garrett and I cupcakes because, "the hospital food will probably make you even worse just to keep you here," even though staying at the hospital is free.

"I can't wait until you can come back to school. I'll be your personal security guard," Garrett said seriously. I laughed at him, and nodded. "I'll see you soon, Sky. Feel better about whatever happened that has you so sad," Garrett said before giving me one last hug. "How do you know I'm sad?" I questioned. Garrett smiled and winked at me. "Can't tell you, it's a secret," is all he said before he left for the night.

I only ended up staying in the hospital for one more day before the doctors took some of the stitches out and told me that I could leave. I wasn't allowed to go to school for another three days, but I would be able to get up and move around my house as long as I didn't do anything crazy. For the rest of the week I stayed at my mother's house because her work let her off for a few days. She coddled me the entire time, which was annoying, yet nice at the same time. During the weekend I went back to the apartment where Ave took care of me.

Everyone kept entertaining me so I could keep my mind off of the situation with Dan, but it wouldn't work. I pretended that it wasn't bothering me, but I felt my heart aching for him. I kept having dreams that what Dan told me hadn't actually happened in real life, but I would just wake up next to an empty pillow beside me.

"You ready to go?" Ave asked me as we pulled up into her parking spot at school. I took a really deep breath and answered her. "As ready as I'll ever be."

Dan

Leaving Sky was the hardest thing I've ever had to do my entire life. I knew it was going to be tough, but telling her in person was just plain cruel. She knows I don't want to leave her. I made sure that she understood that this would be temporary and it was to protect our relationship so we could be happy afterwards. When I got home I walked straight to my room and shut the door. Jack came running after me to say hi, but I ignored him and left him outside of the door. I could hear him whining from the other side of the door, which made me feel bad, but I really wasn't in the mood to walk him or play with him.

"Luke!" I yelled from my room. He would surely be home from school by now.

"Oh you're home. That explains why Jack's crying," he said after opening my door. I nodded and flopped back down on my bed. "So how did it go?" Luke asked me with concern in his voice. I looked at him and gave him one of those annoyed looks. "True, that was a stupid question. Want to talk about it?" he asked me. I sighed and accepted.

After explaining everything Luke decided to try to find a way to cheer me up. He looked all around the house for something fun to do, but came back empty handed. I couldn't help but laugh at him when he was thinking hard. He looked like he was going to pop a vein in his forehead.

"Dude, don't think too much. Your brain won't be able to handle it," I joked, which earned me a pillow in the face. "I know!" he exclaimed suddenly. "We can play that drinking game that we use to play in high school!" He said. I sat up and thought about it. Would that really be a great idea? "Dude, don't worry. I'll stop you if things go too far. You have school tomorrow anyways," he said. I gave in after he convinced me.

As Luke was pouring the shots I couldn't help but remember the first time we played this game. I was sad that Evie moved out to live alone. I was still in high school, but I didn't want her to go. When all the drinks were poured we quickly got into the game. After what felt like half an hour Jack started whining. Luke and I stopped playing and got up, which resulted with us stumbling over each other. Jack simply jumped on Luke's back and started snapping at his hair.

"Ok buddy. Let's go for a walk," he slurred. It took a good five minutes to snap Jacks leash onto his collar. By the time we came back it was already ten o'clock. We had fallen down while trying to balance various times at the park. After running around for a bit we started to sober up and made our way back. Luke decided that we should watch a movie before heading to bed. He made two bags of popcorn and brought a roll of cookie dough to the living room. We ended up watching one of the twilight movies and laughing at all of the movie mistakes we caught. Jack was passed out under the table so I carried him to his little doggie bed.

"Man you're getting heavy," I told Jack and I swore I heard him growl at me in his sleep. When I got into bed I decided to send a goodnight text to Sky. As I was typing I realized that it was a bad idea so I deleted the text and decided to delete Sky's number along with it.
