Chapter Twenty-One

Start from the beginning

"I need to look my best!" I said quickly before rinsing my hair, shaving, and doing everything possible in a record time. Dan was still taking off his shirt when I pushed him inside of the shower and closed the curtains before dashing back to my room. I did everything as fast as possible to get changed before quickly baking the cookies. Luckily Canada's strange weather decided to let Toronto have a warm day that only required us to wear sweaters.

"That's their house," Dan said as a gigantic house came into view. It wasn't a mansion, but it definitely was not the average big house. Great. They're going to think I'm a gold digger, I thought to myself. I was cut off by the sound of the car sounding off and watched as an attractive middle-aged woman walked through the double doors.

"Daniel! How are you? Is this your girlfriend?" she asked, while giving Dan a hug and smiled at me. I could almost feel myself sinking down. "Yes mom, this is my girlfriend, Sky," Dan said with a huge grin and slightly pushed me forward. "It is very nice to meet you, Sky," his mother said and stuck her hand out. I took it and shook it carefully so she couldn't see how scared I was. "It's very nice to meet you too, Mrs.

Phillips," I said shyly, which made her laugh a bit. "You don't have to be shy with us here. Once you spend more than five minutes with my daughter you'll see why," Mrs. Phillips said.

"Evie's here now?" Dan asked excitedly, but before his mother could reply a young woman with dark brown hair and the same eyes as Dan ran out and pounced on him. "Danny! I haven't seen you in forever!" she screeched before they both hit the ground. "Evie! I missed you so much! Why don't you ever visit me?" Evie laughed. "There are too many important things to do in this city, Danny. You definitely know that judging by the pretty girl next to our mother," Evie looked back at me and smiled. "Oh yeah! Evie, this is my girlfriend, Sky. You two will get along great! Where's dad?" Dan asked as he got up from the ground.

"Your father is inside watching the food. He's really excited to meet Sky," Mrs. Phillips said with a smile. I gulped in anxiety before Evie walked right up to me and gave me a huge hug. "You're so pretty! We're going to be great friends!" Evie gushed before dragging me inside behind the others. The inside was amazing. The marble floors extended until where the double stairs began. I was taking off my heels before Mrs. Phillips interrupted me. "Don't worry Sky, the maids will clean after dinner." I can't even afford to have one cleaning person to come once a month. "Are you sure Mrs. Phillips?" I asked warily. She nodded and chuckled. "Please call me Maria. Mrs. Phillips makes me sound like a weird teacher," she said whispering the last part not so quietly.

"Thanks mom. I appreciate that you're already making fun of me to my girlfriend," Dan said sarcastically and rolled his eyes. I giggled before following everyone into what they said would be the kitchen. On the way down the long hallway, Maria and Evie showed me various pictures of Dan growing up that were all hung up on the wall. He got very embarrassed at a picture of him in the bathtub with only bubbles covering his body.

"You must be Sky," a deep voice said from beside me as soon as I walked into the kitchen. My heart skipped a beat, but it recovered just as quickly. I slowly looked to my side and smiled at a man that shared everything but the same skin colour as Dan. "Yes I am, and you must be Mr. Phillips," I said, stretching my hand out first. Mr. Phillips chuckled before pulling me into a hug. "It's so nice to meet you and please, call me Bill." I smiled at him brightly, "It's nice to meet you too." Maria and Bill made a really nice steak dish for dinner along with steamed rice and vegetables. Everything was so delicious. I can't believe I thought they would hate me! "So Sky," Bill said after clearing his throat, "Dan says you're currently a student. What are you planning to be?" he asked me. I instantly tensed up and I guess Dan felt it too so he put his hand on my thigh to sooth my nerves.

"I'm hoping to become a Pediatrician," I answered. Maria and Bill exchanged an impressed look before looking back at me. "That's great! There must be a ton of homework," Maria stated. I gave a nervous laugh before taking another bite out of my food. Luckily Evie cut in and begged to know how Dan and I met. Dan proudly told the story of how we met because we were both lonely on our birthdays. Scratch that, he didn't say it too proudly, but everyone laughed when I reminded him about the funny voicemail he left me.

"Wow, that's basically a match made in heaven! I need to call that boy and thank him for forcing you into this," Maria said, referring to Luke. "Is he in his last year of studying business?" Evie asked Dan. He nodded with a smile. "I've spoken to him a few times this year at school. He hasn't hit on me since the beginning of the year. Can you believe that?" Evie said with a chuckle. Dan instantly dropped his fork. "Luke has hit on you before?" Dan asked in a serious tone. I guess he's one of those over protective little brothers. "I thought you were older than Dan," I said when I realized that Evie mentioned going to the same university as Luke. She swallowed her bite of food before answering me.

"I am older than him. I'm currently getting my Doctorate in Psychology. I pretty much just do my research at school this year so I could have a bit of experience working with a few patients," Evie explained. "That's so cool," I said with a smile. I would've thought that Evie was a model. She had darker skin than Dan, but had the same blue eyes. Even though she was wearing a bigger sweater it seemed like she had the perfect body. "You don't go to University of Toronto. I haven't seen you before. What school do you go to?" Evie asked me. That's when I completely froze up. "Umm... I actually... I..." I started, but couldn't find my words. Evie, Maria, and Bill were looking at me intently. Dan took a deep breath in.

"We actually have to tell you something that you're not going to like," he said. Both of his parents raised their eyebrows in confusion as Evie's jaw dropped open. "You're pregnant, aren't you? You were suppose to be at UofT, but you got pregnant and decided to drop out!" She screeched as if she figured everything out. "No! I'm not pregnant so don't worry about that," I assured her quickly in fear that Maria would faint.

"What is it then?" Bill asked.

"You know how Sky and I met during the summer time?" Dan asked everyone at the table. They all nodded slowly and waited for him to continue. "Well neither of us really talked about the specifics of school or work. We just wanted to spend a fun summer together without any stresses. I never actually asked Sky how old she was since she said that she was going to be a senior this year so I expected her to be twenty-one. "

Everyone was dead silent. "The night that I told her that I loved her, I didn't tell her to bring her identification or anything since I wanted to surprise her. He didn't ask her for it and just joked around. Sky thought that I knew how old she was. When I met her parents her mom mentioned that she was 'A couple of years younger' than me, but I took it as two years since a couple is technically two," Dan was going to continue, but Maria cut him off.

"So I take it that Sky's a minor?" she said in a question-like matter. I nodded at her slowly. I couldn't even move fast enough when I got nervous. "That's not too bad. It's perfectly legal," Bill said. I smiled sadly at him. "It's not as simple as that." All three of Dan's family members looked at me puzzled. I took in a deep breath before saying it.

"We only found out the truth because Dan ended up being my calculus teacher."
