"Muffin peed! I'm already taking care of spot so you have to go," Ave yelled out from the back room. I muttered some things under my breath before I opened the door. If it weren't for my quick reflexes I would've stepped in a puddle of puppy pee. "You could've warned me of where she peed!" I yelled out. "Oops..." Ave said before giggling. I glared at the wall separating us before cleaning everything up. After everything was cleaned up I realized that Muffin was probably hiding from us since she somehow got out of her little room. I looked behind everything, but she was nowhere to be found.
"Ave, have you seen muffin anywhere?" I called out. "Nope, I thought you would have found her by now," she said nervously as she emerged from the golden retrievers room. "Crap!" I ran out from the back and realized that the door had been open the entire time. A few customers looked at me weirdly as I began to look inside of the storage boxes and behind random places. Someone would have said something by now if they saw her. Unless that someone decided to leave because she was what they wanted! I'm so going to get fired! I walked out of the store before running around the mall to look for anything suspicious. Hopefully Sherry wouldn't notice I was gone, but Ave would come up with something. I was just about to give up before I heard a small bark. I stopped in my tracks and whipped my head to the side to see Dan walking towards me with a happy Muffins in his arms.
"Looking for something?" he asked while scratching behind her ears. I let out a huge breath and nodded. "Where did you find her?" I asked him while he handed Muffins to me. "When I walked into the mall I stopped for a cup of coffee. When I was in line at the Tim Horton's I felt something touch my leg and instantly thought it was a kid or something, so I looked down and saw this little puppy," he explained before petting her again.
"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for bringing her back. I was totally going to get fired if I didn't find her. Now I just need to sneak her back into her little room without anyone noticing," I said out of breath from all of the running. I probably look amazing right now, I thought to myself sarcastically. "Here," Dan said while taking off his sweater. "Wrap her in this and I'll walk in in front of you." I nodded and followed him to the store with Muffin's wrapped up in the sweater. We successfully managed to make it into the store unnoticed. Apparently Sherry had to leave for a few hours and left Avery in charge since I was on a "bathrooms break" with "girl problems." Dan sure enjoyed when Avery told us that it was her explanation.
"So you said that you had something to give me?" Dan asked me. I instantly remembered why he was here and smiled brightly. "Oh yeah! It's not only from me. It's from Avery, Luke, and my parents as well," I explained, which made Dan look really confused. "Why would you all want to give me something?" he asked confused while looking at the big dog breeds. I grinned at the thought of how excited he was going to be.
"We've all heard you talking about it for months and Luke said that you've been wanting it for a long time, but never got around to making a decision. We made a decision for you and decided to get you a dog!" I explained excitedly. Dan's face went from confused to pure joy in a matter of seconds.
"You all bought me a dog?" he asked as if I wasn't serious. "Yup," I said and led him into the back rooms. "We decided to let you pick which one you wanted though. We knew you wanted a golden retriever, but we weren't sure of exactly which one you would want," I said, watching him play with all of the puppies like a five year old. The puppies were jumping all over Dan and he definitely loved it. "How do I even pick? I know I want a boy, but I don't know which one is better," he said while pointing to the three dogs with a blue mark on their collars.
"Reggie is really energetic and always wants to play, but he gets distracted easily. Spot is shy and really smart, but he loves to play after a walk, and Rover is a great guard dog, but doesn't play much," I explained while showing him each puppy. Dan thought for a few minutes while looking and interacting at each of the three. He looked torn between the three, but eventually picked Spot up. "I want him. He seems really cool," he said which made Spot look at us as if he were thinking, "I know you're talking about me." Dan and I laughed at his face before I brought him up to the front.
