Chapter 30:
*4 years later*
Let's just say that my second pregnancy was better than the first. At least I knew what I was doing that time around. Peeta and I now have two kids. Two. That's it. No more.
Willow is 6 and our son, Rye, is 4. Willow has long, dark hair and blue eyes. Rye, however, has blonde hair and green eyes. Every afternoon Avan comes outside to play with Willow and Rye. Willow always keeps a close eye on Rye to make sure he doesn't get hurt.
Something still bothers me when the kids play outside in the backyard. They don't know this yet, but they play on a burial ground, where hundreds of people were obliterated to ashes during the rebellion. I was watching the kids when Peeta came through the front door with a girl a few years younger than me.
"Lila, this is my wife Katniss."
My eyes widened. "President Snow's granddaughter." I whispered to myself.
"Hello," she said.
"She said she needed to speak with you about something." I tried to tell Peeta no with hand motions. "I'll leave you two to talk." I gave him a final glare and elbowed him in the ribs as he walked past me out of the room. He's a fool. After all this time, he's still so terrible at picking up clues.
Lila Snow came closer to me until she was right in front of my face. She was much smaller than me. I had to look down at her in order to look into her eyes.
"I remember you, The Mockingjay..." I shuttered at that name.
Suddenly, something sharp pierced my gut. I looked down. A knife was inside me, the blood slowly coming out of the fresh wound, dripping down my body. I couldn't scream. I was in shock, staring at Lila, searching her face for any remnants of solace.
"You killed my Grandpa. I'll have to kill you, so now when your kids have kids, those kids won't have a Grandma." She twisted the knife and I let out a squeak of agony. I slumped to the floor. My vision started to blur. Between slow blinks, I saw her walk out the front door. I saw Peeta rushing inside. Willow and Rye were staring at me. Peeta was shielding them and telling them to get away. Maybe I'm better off dead. I was always meant to die, except now is my time.
