Chapter 24:
By that time Johanna had gotten involved. She was twirling her ax in her hand.
"I suggest that you leave before I chop your fucking head in half."
Thread's henchman didn't need to be told twice. He scrambled into the truck and drove away as fast as he could, leaving nothing but a trail of dust behind him. Johanna and I exchanged a high five as Peeta stared at us with a combination of astonishment and dismay.
"I thought you didn't shoot anymore?" he asked.
"I don't. I keep the bow around for times like these."
"Times like these. I think our lives might always be this chaotic." Peeta looked at Thread's body, then at me.
"I just hope this chaos ends by the time our kids are born." I said, taking the quiver off my shoulder.
"Kids? Plural?" he gleamed.
"Yeah," I scoffed as he walked towards. me. "We can't have just one. This one will need a sibling."
"I knew there was a reason I fell in love with you." He was beaming.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed him by the collar to bring him in for a kiss.
"Hey, Lovebirds. What are we going to do with that?" She pointed her ax at Thread's motionless body. She bent down and pulled up Thread's t-shirt sleeve. The Capitol's emblem was tattooed on his arm. Johanna stood up, the look of fury in her eyes. She slowly took a few steps back before swinging the axe over her head and chopping off Thread's arm. She walked away, back towards Haymitch's house.
