Chapter 14:
(CW: aftermath of self-harm)
I woke up on the floor of Johanna's kitchen. My hands were stained red and the room smelled like bleach and rust. My face was right next to a dried puddle of blood. I stood up and looked around. Johanna wasn't anywhere to be found and my mom was gone too. I looked around the kitchen. There was a note on the refrigerator door.
'Katniss, I took Johanna to the hospital. Come there as soon as you find this. Love, Mom'
I ran to the hospital and met my mom inside. "Where is she?!" I said, practically out of breath.
"In there." My mom guided me inside her room.
Johanna was sleeping in one of the hospital beds. She had a needle pumping a clear liquid into her arm. The inside of her wrist was all wrapped up. She's alive. I pulled my mom across the hall into an empty room.
"How's the baby?" I whispered.
"Alive." she said, as she handed me a picture of the baby. You could barely see anything, just a little white dot.
"She really is pregnant." I said.
"Yes, she is."
This may not have been what she anticipated, but it's official. Johanna Mason is pregnant with Gale Hawthorne's child.
