Chapter 13:
(CW: self-harm, no description of the actual harming, but of finding the person after)
The bombs flew down from the sky. I saw her face, her eyes, her lips, her expression. "Katniss..." She mouthed. The explosions went off. "Prim!"
I was jerked awake to Gale shaking me vigorously. "Katniss, it's Johanna..."
I looked next to me and Peeta wasn't there. I bolted out of bed and sprinted outside to Johanna's house. She lives about half a mile away. I powered through, flying down the road on pure adrenaline. My long, wavy hair flew behind me. I was scared, not knowing what type of emergency to expect.
I threw open the door of Johanna's house and saw that my mom had come from the hospital. She was tending to Johanna in the kitchen. Johanna was unconscious and her left arm was bleeding. I watched the blood drip from her arms to the floor. The slow sound of blood dripping to the tiles filled the room. A puddle had formed.
"What happened?" I said breathlessly as my mom carefully stitched the seven slashes on Johanna's left arm.
"She relapsed." She said without looking up at me. "She'll be okay, but she needs help. I know some people. I can recommend some therapists. Whatever she wants or needs."
What about the baby? I looked outside. No one was there. I left Gale behind. He couldn't keep up. "Is anyone else here?" I asked.
"No, not yet."
I closed the front door. "If a pregnant woman loses too much blood, will the baby be okay?"
My mom stopped what she was doing and looked up at me. Her eyes were blank; expressionless. "She's pregnant?" It was almost a whisper.
I nodded. My mom returned to Johanna's arms and stitched her up at a quicker pace. I grabbed the other needle that was threaded and copied what my mom was doing on her other arm. The baby. I can help save it. I can help save another life.
