Chapter 28:
It's a girl. We named her Willow. She has my dark hair and Peeta's blue eyes. Today we finally got to take her home. Peeta's eyes were bloodshot, he hadn't slept at all the past two days.
"Peeta, go get some rest. I can handle her." I said, when we got home.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Peeta walked upstairs and went inside the bedroom, closing the door behind him. I took Willow out of her carrier and put her in her crib, which was in our spare room that became the nursery. Peeta had painted the walls a pale green. I placed her in the crib, carefully not to wake her. She's so beautiful.
I left the nursery door open and walked into the kitchen. I put some bread into the toaster. That's when she started crying. I walked back into the nursery and picked her up, holding her in my arms, gently rocking her back and forth. Nothing. She was still crying.
Five minutes went by. I tried everything I could think of. I heard Peeta scream. "Katniss! Katniss!"
I walked into the smoke filled kitchen. "Peeta!" Shielding willow from the gray clouds, I walked back into the nursery and closed the door over.
Peeta opened all the windows and doors. The toast had burned in the toaster. Willow was still crying. Peeta aired out the kitchen and I brought Willow over to him. "Can you take her?! I think she hates me or something!"
Peeta took Willow from me. Instantly, she stopped crying. He smiled. This kid's stubborn like me. I sighed, but couldn't help the smile that formed on my lips.
