Chapter Thirty-Two: White Lies

"Don't you think it's funny how similar the sentences 'he showed up' and 'he showed me up' are?" She laughed, and his expression immediately darkened.

"Gemma, did he-"

"Don't worry, we had a wonderful date." She said, because she wasn't in the mood for his pity. White lies never hurt anyone.

    "Oh." No, he told himself, I wasn't hoping it had gone wrong. I wasn't hoping everything turned out terribly. Because I'm not that type of person.

    But he was. And he was disappointed, more in himself than in the date. What was wrong with him?

    He needed the weekend. Badly. He needed another break from the weird, washed up feelings.

    Not that the last weekend helped much. The feelings seemed to intensify.

    God, this was not turning out the way he wished.

    And she was thinking the same.
