I was telling the truth and knew I couldn't do this alone.
"Why didn't he tell me? I'll help him; he knew that,"
"Pride issues, Dad."
"That man! Is he insane? He will let his son pay for his stupid decisions?"
I agree with my dad; it was that stupid. Letting your son marry a woman he just met, just for business' sake? It was unhinged!
"Exactly! Too much pride will get him nowhere," I said.
"That's right; I know Dad taught us to get what we want no matter the cost, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I'll talk to him, son, and he lied to me, so he'll pay for that," he said.
Ah! Finally! This will all be fixed. We went to my uncle's house, Dad and my uncle talked. I gave them privacy, but I could still hear their conversation from where I was sitting.
"Are you nuts? You let your son marry a stranger?" my dad told his brother.
"It's for the business," my uncle answered.
"You're a fool, stop acting like a child. God, you're almost a senior citizen and you're still acting like this?"
They laughed, and they laughed pretty hard. I thought it would end up in a fistfight.
"You're older than me," my uncle said.
"But I look younger than you," my dad replied.
"You should have asked for my help; you know I won't refuse to help you," my dad said again.
My uncle didn't say a word, so my dad spoke once again.
"Your pride is bigger than you can imagine, did you know that you almost lost your son?"
"What?"
"Mike's a huge mess because of your stupid decisions."
My uncle's face fell; he bowed his head in embarrassment.
"What should I do, big brother?" Uncle asked Dad. Ah! Finally, he asked for help.
"Talk to your son, and cancel the f*cking wedding," finally the wedding was off, so I immediately called Mike.
"Mike,"
(What's up, man?)
"You're wedding is officially off,"
(What? Like seriously, man?)
"Yes, I'm serious,"
(Really? I can't believe this!)
"You better believe it, because it's true,"
(Thank you so much, man. You're my savior, my hero, my everything. Thank you! I owe you my life, and I owe you a million times, thank you!)
"You're welcome, my man; you sound so cheesy; stop it," I said and chuckled.
So there was no wedding to catch now, my dad and I went back to the house after he finished talking to my uncle.
I finally had time to buy Joan a present. What should I get her?
Shoes... hmm, I don't know her size. A new phone? Nah, she will not accept it for sure. A necklace? Yeah, that can be a good one.
I went out and strolled around town with my rover and found a jewelry store. I bought a crowned heart-shaped pendant necklace. I know it'll suit her.
I rode my rover and drove back home. My cousins were in our home with my sister because I heard them screaming from our home theater, so I didn't bother them. I headed to the kitchen to grab some snacks. And I found Dad drinking coffee.
"Hey, Dad," I said.
"Hey, son," he replied while sipping from cup of coffee.
"What's that?" he asked.
He was eyeing the box I was carrying that I bought a while ago.
"Oh, it's a gift for someone," I said.
"Someone special, right?"
Was he a psychic or something? I was pretty surprised by what he said.
"How did you know?" I asked.
"Well, son, you don't personally buy presents unless it's for people special to you."
My dad knew me well because he was right, I didn't personally buy presents, it bored me, it always gave me a headache.
"I believe she is special, Dad," I muttered.
Joan is special to me, she was the apple of my eye, and I like her a lot.
"Really? Tell me something about her,"
"Yes, she's kind and beautiful, has a good family, and an adoring personality; I like her a lot."
"Oh, I see; that sounds good; I'm looking forward to meeting her soon."
"Come back home, Dad, and we'll set it up,"
"Sure, as I always say, Philip, I taught you to have whatever your heart desires, whatever it takes; if you need my help, I am just a call away."
"I know that Dad; thank you, you're the best."
I was so blessed to have a dad as good as him; he's one of a kind.
