Jacob's POV

After spending the morning desperately trying to avoid Maddy's calls, mine and Sara's run was just what I needed. I have to admit, she pleasantly surprised me- she had a good technique, a little bouncy, but great stamina and agility. However Perhaps we'd chosen the wrong day as it was 87 degrees outside; I was drenched in sweat from head to toe and my head began to pound from dehydration, and yet she looked like we'd just started our 7k run.

Spinning around to run backwards she chuckled,

"Come one Nerd, you're not flaking out on me now are you?", rolling my eyes at her victorious gaze, she turned back around and continued her steady pace.

"Don't gloat", I mumbled before increasing my speed for the last few hundred metres. Passing her tiny body, she scoffed as I heard her little footsteps move more quickly. Before long she was beside me again, her chest rising up and down and her temples streaming with tiny sweat droplets.

My house eventually came back into view, and when we reached the brick wall we collapsed against it desperately trying to catch our breaths,

"So, how did I do?", she grinned clinging onto her chest,

"You're good! How come you never did track?", wiping my forehead with the back of my hand she shrugged,

"I don't like making things that I enjoy competitive", she admitted bending over slightly and placing her hands on her thighs,

"Isn't that the point of medical school?",

"Mmm I guess so. But when we graduate we'll be helping people", her eyes glazed over as she thought about college, I could tell how badly she wanted this.

"Can I ask you something?", she hummed turning her head to face mine as I nodded 'yes',

"What happened with you and Maddy?", I knew her question was coming, I just hadn't figured out how to tell her.

"We had a fight at prom. Long story short we figured that out, and then at the after party she was clearly drunk and went off on one again about how it was my fault she didn't do too well in her SAT's. She had an issue with taking responsibility for her actions, she was also a little immature, short-tempered and could be a massive bitch. Honestly, she was great in so many ways- but she wasn't the kind of person I wanted to be with. And she definitely wasn't you.", I felt myself blush as she nudged me playfully tightening her ponytail. She looked so beautiful naturally, and although we were both as red as a beetroot and sweating like pigs, it was nice to see her let loose.

"Are you coming in?", pushing myself from the wall, she crossed her arms over her chest and shuffled in her spot,

"It's only for some water, stop panicking", I chuckled as she followed me like a duck into the house,

"Jacob, is that you?", my mother shouted from the living room as we made our way from the house,

"Yeah, I have a friend with me. The one I went on a run with", I responded as she emerged from the sofa and stopped in her tracks,

Sara's POV

His mother was beautiful. She was tall and slender, with platinum blonde hair shaped into an immaculate bob. Smiling as she took in the both of us, her glossy peach lips showed off her fluorescent pearly white teeth

"Hello lovely, you must be Jacob's friend! I'm Anna", she walked towards me and threw her arms out smelling like expensive perfume and lavender as I wrapped my arms around her,

"Nice to meet you Mrs Barston, I'm Sara", She beamed from ear-to-ear holding my face gently,

"You are gorgeous! isn't she gorgeous Jacob", hearing footsteps erupt from the stairway, a young girl that looked like Jacob's female clone appeared. Melissa. Stopping in her tracks and raising her brows, she grinned,
