🇬 🇦 🇧 🇷 🇮 🇪 🇱 🇱 🇦 :

Four years earlier; September 2011.

A guttural scream passes my lips as the leather slashes against my bare back. Pain, near unbearable pain, makes a home under the skin.

"Describe your target." My kidnapper says with unnerving calmness.

"I don't—" the whip comes down harder against my raw flesh.

"Don't test my patience, gorgeous. Describe your target." I swallow against a sob and recall all the information I'd read the day before.

"Female. Aged thirty eight. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Married. Mother to one—" I fall to my knees as the whip hits a sensitive spot on my back.

"Try again." He says, almost gently, as if he hadn't just whipped the skin off my back.

"Mother to two. One boy, one girl."

"Name." He says. My mind suddenly goes blank.

"I—" My back burns as he slashes my skin one more time.

"Name." He demands. I hear him lift the whip and before he has a chance to hit me, I utter her name.

"Aurora Gilbert." The whip slashes the gravel beside me, leaving dust to decorate the air.

"Known now as?"

"Aurora Taylors." I hear him get up, and his steps move toward me. I feel his hand land on my head. He rubs gently like one would a beloved pet.

"Good girl."
