Michael's eyes fluttered open against the light flowing past the curtains, wincing against the brilliance they held. Rubbing his tired eyes he yawned and stretched, allowing the morning light to awaken him fully after such a difficult night.

Images of the nightmares briefly come to mind, bringing about a shiver of fear. He sighed and shifted his gaze to the beauty at his side.

She was still here. Sarah didn't leave him.

"Thank you," Michael whispered, placing a kiss upon her forehead.

Standing with a groan he stretched and leaned against the window, taking in the lush and serene beauty of Neverland into his heart. Truthfully, he had been having thoughts of abandoning his beloved piece of heaven due to the evil which had tarnished it.

Years of dreaming, longing and happiness– gone in the near blink of an eye.

Again Michael sighed, pushing away from the window to step into the hallway. It was quiet and peaceful, aside from the hellish images last night. His feet quietly pad along the hardwood floors as he walks to the main foyer, taking a seat at the grand piano.

Moments like this always inspired him to play a few notes or chords, as a coping mechanism of sorts. Slender fingers grace the ivory and ebony keys with ease and practiced precision, not missing a single note.

Michael began to play with his eyes closed, allowing the music to take over, to replace the pain within his wounded heart and soul.

It truly broke his spirit to have Sarah see the intensity of these nightmares so early on in their relationship.

Relationship. He smiled, still unable to believe how quickly things turned. After so many failed attempts at love this was a breath of fresh air, a new beginning or sorts. And Michael prayed it would work out in the long run.

Being alone for so many years has taken its toll upon his very soul, it's a miracle he had made it this far. Images of the one-night stands, the falsified love, the pain quickly flashed before his eyes, yet his melody not once wavered. Michael continued to play, eyes slowly opening with a deep sigh.

I've lived my life the lonely
A soul that cries of shame
And handicapped emotions
Save me now from what still remains
I'll be your story hero
I'll serenade in rhyme
I'm just needing that someone
Save me now, am I the one?

A pair of birds settled upon the branch outside the window, gazing at him curiously. The male appeared to be protective of his mate, occasionally preening her feathers with utmost care. Michael chuckled and watched with sparkling brown eyes.

"Now what are you two doing so early?"

Quiet chirps and twitters emit from the pair, as if greeting him. The female's higher pitch as the male continues his actions cause Michael's heart to swell with joy. The male titled his head to the side, pressing close to her side. She in turn touched her beak to his before they took off together, leaving Michael with his thoughts.

Michael was rendered speechless, never had he witnessed such behavior from animals on the property, let alone ever in his life. It was heartwarming, and even heartbreaking just the same.

Turning back to the keys, he is soon met with Sarah's eyes as she sits down beside him. "Good morning."

"Did you see those birds?" She yawned, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Yeah, I've never seen anything like that. When did you get up?"

Sarah sighed, laying against his shoulder. "I heard you playing and it was absolutely beautiful, I didn't want to miss it."
