One afternoon, Kailey came home early from school after getting a call from her grandmother. When she walked in the door, she saw her grandmother sobbing uncontrollably.
"What's wrong?" Kailey asked.
"W-well..." her grandmother went on still sobbing. "I got a call from the hospital earlier and, well, they said your mother didn't make it. They said neither did your sister..."
No, thought Kailey. This can't be happening. "Grandma I'm sorry. I can't do this right now."
"Kailey, honey, wait!" Her grandmother called after her, but Kailey was already gone. She was already out the door and running as fast as she could, sobbing.
