It was Saturday afternoon, Avery was just finishing off getting ready to go out with Xander.

She had made an effort today, she was wearing a pale blue floral dress and had straightened her hair.

Elijah knocked on the door, when Avery invited him in he was a little suprised to see her in a dress.
He knew she rarely wore them so it was quite a shock. He hated how grown up she looked as it reminded him of all those years that were ripped from him.

"I thought it was just a friendly catch up" he said, using her own words.

"It is" Avery reassured.

"Alot of effort for just a friendly catch up" Elijah replied in a teasing manner.

"Should I change then?" Avery looked at herself in the mirror suddenly feeling very self conscious. "Ok I'm going to change, yeah I'll just wear a hoodie"

Elijah stopped her before she could go into her closet. "You look nice, you don't need to change" he told her.

"But you said it yourself, there is too much effort"

"I was messing Avery, it just came as a suprise since I know you're not overly fond of dresses"

Avery nodded "I guess it is a bit different" Elijah picked up on the sadness in her tone.
"Do you want to talk about it" he asked.

"It's nothing really. I just need to show everyone I'm okay and the best way to do that is to dress like I'm ok"

Elijah didn't like her way of thinking, he didn't say anything at first instead he hugged her "it's ok not to be okay " he whispered as they hugged.

Once they parted he looked at her "you look lovely and you shouldn't change however I don't want you wearing clothes that you are only wearing for the sake of appearances. Wear what makes you feel comfortable in the future, not what you think other people want to see" Elijah knew he probably shouldn't have said it but he didn't want Avery continuing to wear clothes to fit in.

"Ok but maybe a small part of me wants him to like me"

Elijah couldn't help the look of disgust, he covered it up quickly not wanting Avery to see his hate for the boy. "If he can't see what an amazing person you are then he isn't worth your time. You don't need to wear a dress to get a guys attention.Know your worth Avery, I never want you changing because of a guy especially him"

Avery nodded, she knew he was right but  it was hard to do as he said.

"I should go now" Avery said to avoid any awkwardness.

"Okay, have fun" Elijah said not wanting to say something that would have a negative impact on her.

Avery met Xander at the park closest to her house, from there they went on a short walk, catching up with everything that happened, Avery felt like she could talk to Xander about anything, it helped he knew about the Mafia so she was able to tell him she had been kidnapped ect.

Once they both filled each other in on the serious stuff, Xander had wrapped Avery in a hug not wanting to let go. He eventually did when their stomachs rumbled. They laughed and joked some more as they headed towards a diner.

As they sat down, Avery noticed a man sat in one of the booths. She couldn't help roll her eyes when she saw who it was. Jacob was here.

(I had to have Jacob, Xander and Avery all together, for the drama.)

Jacob noticed Avery sit down with a boy, he couldn't help but glare, who the hell was that piece of shit with her.

Xander had seen Jacob looking over, he was trained to spot the watchers and he saw a deadly glare directed at himself so in return Xander glared right back.

Jacob wasn't happy with this, he left it a few minutes before getting up and walking over "fancy running into you, love" he said to Avery. It was a suprise, he hadnt set out to have any contact with her, he didn't want contact with her ever again. He had decided to go after those who hurt her then he would never associate himself with her again.

"Do you both know each other"

Avery didn't know what to say, she couldn't exactly tell him he was her captor.

"Yeah he worked with my dad at one point" she wasn't lying because he technically did. He had helped give information about her

"Oh so he's just some old associate of your dad's who clearly has a thing for you"

"One I'm not old and two I definitely don't have a thing for her"

"Love" Xander mocked.

"It's meaningless, it's just a joke between us" Jacob and Avery said together.

Xander wasn't convinced though. He decided to drop it for now but he saw that the man in front was way more than her father's associate.

"Well I'll leave you both to your date" Jacob said not bothering to hide his distaste for it.

Xander didn't like this Jacob guy at all. "We definitely will" he replied.
Jacob glared before walking out. He didn't know why he was so bothered. He didn't want anything to do with the girl.

"Why did you not correct him" Avery asked.
"Huh?"
"Well he said enjoy your date and you basically agreed it was a date. Is it a date?"

Xander realized what he had basically said "if you want it to be"

"Do you want  it to be" Avery countered.

"Yeah I do. I really like you Avery and I know things haven't been the same between us but maybe we can start fresh and see where this goes"

Avery just stared at him. She liked Xander she really did. He was fun to be around and she could be herself around him.

"Okay..."
Avery couldn't help but smile as she spoke.

"Okay then" Xander smiled, he was nervous for her anwser but he smiled at her anwser.
