Chapter 22

"Imo? Are you okay?" nag-aalala nitong tanong. Halata sa mga mata nito ang pag-aalala kung bakit kanina pa akong wala sa sarili.

"Yeah, yeah," tugon ko. "Give me a ride home?" I cheerfully asked and gave him a forced smile.

Agad naming sumilay ang matamis na ngiti sa kaniyang mga labi at saka binuksan ang pintuan ng passenger's seat. I backed away a little bit and climbed in his car. Bumuntong-hininga ako nang makaayos na ako ng upo.

"What were you doing here alone?" he asked as he started the engine of the car.

Napatingin ako sa gawi nito at napatitig sa gilid ng kaniyang mukha. He's really good looking. Even though it was a bit dark inside this car, you can clearly see his sharp jawline in this angle. "I just came out of Jade's condo. We did something in her condo. You know, girl stuff..." I trailed off as I remembered what my real intention was for coming in Jade's condo.

Napagpasyahan kasi naming pumunta sa condo ni Jade pagkatapos ng trabaho sa kadahilanang marami raw siyang pregnancy tests sa bahay. We didn't bother to buy any more, since Jade already has a lot.

Binalot na ng katahimikan ang buong kotse ni Andre. Umiwas ako ng tingin at ibinaling ang aking atensyon sa labas ng bintana. Marami kaming nadadaanan na iba't-ibang gusali. Ang ibang tindahan ay wala nang kailaw-ilaw dahil malalim-lalim na rin ang gabi.

I clasped my hands together as I played with my fingers. "Andre," tawag ko sa atensyon nito. From my peripheral vision, I felt him divert his gaze to me and immediately turned it back to the road. "If ever you were given a chance. A chance to have a sudden... child. What would you do?"

"Hmm... A child is not on top of my lists for a few more years, as of now. Especially that I will soon take on another big responsibility, which is the company, I don't think wanting a child will be my priority for a few more years," seryoso nitong sagot. Hindi ko na lamang napansin ay nakatingin na pala ako sa gawi nito. "Why the sudden and random question?" he asked and chuckled. I noticed his forehead creased as he gave me a quick side glance.

Umiling ako at ibinaba ang aking tingin sa aking mga kamay na naglalaro. "Nothing. Just a random thought," sagot ko.

Naramdaman ko ang agarang pagsikip ng aking dibdib nang marinig ang kaniyang sagot. Just like what I've expected. He doesn't want a child. Sandaling napakunot ang aking noo nang maramdaman ang kirot sa aking puso. Why am I even reacting like this? It's not like it's not the answer that I was expecting to come out of his mouth.

"Honestly, I don't know if I can be a good... father to the child that will be brought into this world. I mean, I still don't have a girlfriend, what more a wife and a child, right?" natatawa nitong banggit.

I let out a soft chuckle as I gave him a subtle nod. Well, you see here, Andre. You don't need a wife nor a girlfriend to have a child. Maybe, all you need is a fuck buddy?

"But then, would you take responsibility for it...?" mahina at kinakabahan kong tanong.

Narinig ko itong naglabas ng malakas na buntong-hininga. Itinaas niya ang kaniyang kamay at pinadaan ang kaniyang mga daliri sa madulas at walang kabuhol-buhol na buhok. "I really don't know..." seryoso nitong sagot.

I was about to speak again when he spoke first before me. "Maybe it all depends to what I feel to the mother. If it really is mine, I'll support it financially and physically... But, if I don't love the mother, I can't promise to build a happy and complete family with her and the child," he paused.

"Don't get me wrong, okay? I'll still tell the child that I'm his father and all, I'll be there for the child whenever they need me, but I just can't promise to be in a relationship with the mother," dagdag nito.
