That ain't what I meant.
"You're one to talk." Bridget scoffs. "You think I forgot that you can't cook?"
"Bro, I can totally cook. I learned when I finally got away from yo ass."
"Stop it. The bread is great." Dahlia elbows Hailey in the upper part of her side body. "Nah, fuck that-" Hailey gets ready to start one of her angry ass rants but Dahila pulls her down and it's silent again.
This the most awkward dinner I've been to, and I ate at a Thanksgiving where my auntie introduced her new boyfriend to the family. Her husband was my cousin's ex boyfriend.
"Bridget, how's Dimitri?" Duke asks, clearing his throat.
"He's good. He cries all night but he is starting to try and sit up by himself."
"How old is he now?"
"One." Bridget says.
"He'll start to go over more milestones as he ages. Hopefully you and Fantasia are there to witness them. So as long as people step up to their title..." Bridget's eyes snap over to Hailey. "Isn't that right, hailey?"
Hailey shrugs. "Sometimes shit happens."
"Sometimes people lie." Bridget nods.
"And you know all about that" Hailey mumbles, finally looking up at her. "Don't you?"
"I should ask you the same thing."
Hailey shakes her head with an eye roll, before scooting her chair away from the table and standing up. "I'm not hungry." She turns around and makes her way down to the basement.
Eric manges to change the subject and somehow the dinner goes on a lil less awkwardly. We're done eating in thirty minutes and instead of Duke insisting on us cleaning the kitchen, he tells us to go check up on Hailey. So we all head down to the room I've been sleeping in for the past week and a half, and Hailey's stretched out on the bed scratching Dexter and texting on her phone. "You okay?" Rosie asked and Hailey shrugged. "I'm Gucci, bro."
"I didn't mean to make you upset, Hailey." Bridget tells her.
"You didn't make me upset, I just do not like being around yo ass." Haley shrugs.
"That's mean." I say and Hail rolls her eyes.
"Who even are you?" Bridget asks and my brows raise because this is what we not finna do.
"She my girlfr-" Hailey pauses and we look at eachother a second. "S-she's my friend and me and you deadass been talking about how I don't want you around me. I'm already out here with some type of child support. The fuck you want from me, bro? Fuck outta here with that wack ass shit."
"Money doesn't raise a baby."
"But it keeps a roof over his head, he's not going hungry every night. I buy clothes, I buy shoes, he got toys-"
"You're materialistic." Bridget states and that just sets Hailey off.
"And you a manipulative liar!"
"Hail, calm down" Andre took a hold of her waist, pulling her away from Bridget, stopping whatever shit she was intending to do because she looking mighty overheated right now.
"I'm not asking for you to want to be around me, I'm asking for a few hours of rest. I messed up and I am willing to admit how wrong I was for doing you like that-"
"Because you were mad wrong." Jalen comments from his seat on the floor, staring at his phone. Everyone turns to look at him and he looks back unfazed. "The fuck y'all lookin at? Y'all know I'm right. And what's up with this room? It's dumb brick in here, Cass. I need a blanket or sum shit."
