"Mommy." Cara called after I took Melanie outside.

"Yes baby!" I said.

"I so sad for Melly." She said. "Maybe we make her favorite for dessert." She said.

"What's Mels favorite?" I asked her Mel is an ice cream fanatic other than that sweets aren't her thing.

"I no know." She said shrugging animatedly.

"Hmm how about I make cheesecake ice cream sandwiches?" I said.

"You smart mommy." She nodded.

I smiled at her. "So are you little lady. Now go wash those hands and check the timer for the Brussels sprouts." I said.

"Two five minutes mommy." She said.

"I don't know what two five is." I said challenging her.

"I no say it right mommy." She whined.

"You never know unless you try Cara." I said.

"Twnney five minutes." She said

"That was very good!" I said

"Really?" She asked.

"Yes baby." I said. "Oh get the graham crackers if you can reach baby." I said.

"I get it!" She said and set them down as I got the other ingredients to make the sandwiches.

"Hello. Any one home!" I heard Derrick yell

Cara gasped and ran out looking for him.

"Hey D." I said smiling.

"Hey. What's up Lauren?" He said hugging me tightly.

"Nothing. Busy day. How about you?" I asked.

"Same but hey, I'm about that college life." He smiled wildly.

"Good Evening." His mother said walking in.

"Hello." I smiled.

"Where's Melanie and Devin?" She asked.

"They went to the grand site. " I said causing her to nod and look away.

"Mommy. I no think this ice cream." Cara said.

"Hey baby." Ms. Thomas said to Cara

"Hi grandma. Guess what?" Cara said as I covered up the spread we made and put it in the freezer.

"What baby?" She asked.

"I read book in school out loud." Cara said.

"What? You did?" His mother asked shocked.

"Mmhm and me mommy help me." She said.

"Really? That's good. Will you read in class more now?" She asked Cara.

"Yes. I good reader." She said confidently making me smile.

"Oh that's great baby." She said as I busied myself trying not to look like I'm keying in on their conversation.

Devins POV

"I'm so sorry Mels. I had a lot going on and I almost forgot." I said.

"It's okay. I have to apologize to aunt Lauren. I didn't treat her nice." She told me fumbling with her fingers.

"What happened?" I asked her.

"Well when I thought I couldn't go see mommy I cried and screamed. I think I hurt her feelings and I don't want to hurt her feelings." She told me.
